BIO.
Rocky and Tallulah Jackson welcomed their daughter, Zahra, into the world on a warm summer evening. They werenât rich, and didnât have a legacy accompanying them like the big families in town. Rocky was getting Maraschino Music off the ground, Tallulah was trying to find her place in the world between waitressing. They were comfortable, though, and they were happy. It wasnât a life of glitz and glam, but it was enough - at least, Rocky thought so.
Zahra has always been a handful - she was bright and energetic, with a nigh unshakeable confidence that her parents nurtured from an early age (for better or worse). Maybe thatâs why she was so unafraid when it came to speaking her mind. Even when she was little, she was outspoken, and that part of her has only flourished. Despite that - or, perhaps, because of it - she wasnât particularly good at making friends. Sure, sheâd do alright with a group, but she was a little much for most people to actually make friends with her. Except, of course, for one Luca Logan (WHO is playing him, hmu).
Elementary school was lifechanging. Elementary school was when Lux and Alice came into her life and something just clicked. Suddenly, the three of them were inseparable. Zahra was sure theyâd be best friends forever (and never really shook that childish conviction, until Lux... well.). The timing was perfect, really - right as things between her parents were fracturing, she got two new people to lean on.
Her parentsâ nurture and encouragement petered out in favour of tension and arguments. Her mother was obviously restless, and frustrated, and bored. And in response, her father was frustrated, and defensive, and a little desperate. It felt like Zahra spent more time out of the home than in it - eager to escape to a friendâs house or gymnastics or the beach, rather than face what was happening at home. Despite that, she got to watch her dadâs heart break, slowly and painfully and then all at once when Tallulah finally left town.
Zahra couldâve blamed herself. Instead she blamed the world. People leave. Itâs a fact of being. Her self-assurance is what got her through - the one person she knows sheâll always have is herself, and she acts accordingly. Even if the people she loves decide sheâs not worth sticking around for, she is sure of her ability to do great things.Â
(She canât help her exceptions, though. The Lucaâs and Luxâs and Aliceâs, who got in early. And Rory, of course. Always Rory.)
After Tallulah left, things changed. Zahra and Rocky became more disconnected, which only cemented Zahraâs ideas about self-reliance. Outspokenness and being unapologetically herself had always been her rough edges, but those edges got rougher. She became more abrasive, almost as a defence mechanism. A constant stress test - if people put up with her insensitive and blunt attitude, she knows theyâre more likely to stick around for the long haul. Plus, her willingness to regulate and censor herself plummeted. If people donât like her attitude, sheâd rather they fuck off quick rather than bother to desperately win their approval.
Her life changed again in middle school, when a traumatised younger cousin showed up out of nowhere.Â
(Itâs weird, to lose someone you barely knew - how do you grieve the absence where Ellie Jackson couldâve been when you live with two people grieving her as she was?)
Things were... bad to begin with. Zahra didnât want someone new in her house. Or in her life. And this new person, Rory, was barely a person half the time. When she wasnât a shell, the two girls were at each otherâs throats. Home was filled with silence or vicious arguments until things finally got bad enough and a switch suddenly flipped. Suddenly, rather than being a nobody, Rory was hers. Hers to take care of and hers to trust. Her ride or die and her Achilles heel. Rory is a part of her, and the only person sheâd put before herself without a second of hesitation.
Zahra thrived in high school (obviously), achieving HBIC status with a best frenemy to boot (Elaine, my beloved). She was doing it all: cheerleader, top marks, impeccable looks, better-than-you attitude. She was loved and feared in equal measure and loving it, baby!
Then things got real bad. Sheâs totally fine about her best friend torturing them all. Totally fine. (will def elaborate on just how fine at a later date)
HEADCANONS
Realised she liked girls because her first kiss was a girl (who could be your character, hmu babes!!), probably during truth or dare or something. Definitely filed it away as an âoh. okay thenâ and categorically refuses to angst about it or make it a big deal.
Started doing gymnastics when she was seven, and absolutely loves it. It was initially a way for her parents to get her to burn off energy and all these years later, itâs still what she likes to turn to when sheâs feeling agitated and restless.
Did baseball in middle school. It was very satisfying to hit things with a baseball bat, but she stopped in high school to focus on cheer.
Her longest romantic relationship was probably three months - sheâs much more a love âem and leave âem type. Sheâs never been broken up with (no matter what some people might try to claim). Casey Russell, whoâs sheâs been not-dating for nearly two years, is a wild anomaly who has not been counted.
Always has gum in her purse/bag.
Is killer at karaoke, primarily because her confidence is truly so rock solid.
Has a box in her cupboard filled with polaroids and trinkets from hanging with the gang - some photos are from other people, but when itâs a chiller vibe sometimes sheâll bring along her polaroid camera and snag some herself.
Will steal your clothes. In fact, shows affection through stealing your clothes. If sheâs wearing overalls, she got âem from Roryâs closet. Mostly this means taking them from Rory, but Alice, Elaine, and even Kittyâs stuff is in the mix too. And Lux, but we donât talk about that.
