I feel like there's an obvious pun/joke to make about reading but I can't think of it

I have some questions, I hope it’s ok to ask and they are not spoilers …

Huvrye is getting a newspaper at the beginning of the comic, is this a censored special edition newspaper only meant for the military base and the humunculi?

Does he buy the newspaper? Do the huminculi get some sort of salary? 

Are all the media in Lasardhi censored? 

If the newspaper is not censored, wouldn’t the homunculi notice what is going on in the world outside of the military base, and their status as non persons?

 I saw a “destroy body” note on Lennis’ clipboard. Since the humunculi are considered by the Lasardhi to be biological appliances / robots, and if they are not killed on the battlefield, would they be recycled after reaching a certain age? Would the humunculi know this? Would the Naabs know and would they be complicit in the “recycling”? As doctors they must also know / realise Endonians are murdered in order to make constructs?

When visiting the director, the clothing people are wearing, the cars, the planes etc look like the 1950 / 1960 to me.

Are these things produced in Lasardhi? Or did the Lazardhi steal / purchase these things from humans? 

According to Irish folklore, the faerie went to live “inside the hills” (through a portal?) in order to get away from humans. Did they end up in Lasardhi and the other fairy city states?

All of the media is Lasardhi is heavily censored & propagandized, both for the homunculi and civilians. Some things might get censored more for one group than for the other, though, so yes, the homunculi have a slightly different version of the paper than a civilian would (mostly changing lifestyle/entertainment/etc. type stuff, since homunculi only have access to whatever happens on base).

The homunculi do get a small allowance for "fun" stuff, but what they can spend it on is pretty tightly controlled. They don't get any money aside from that, and have to rely on what the base gives them for food/housing/clothing/etc.

As far as the "destroy body" note goes- a lot of the alchemical symbols in this world refer to a relatively vague concept/thing/function, and sorta rely on the alchemist's mind to direct it to a specific intent. More like a note to remind you of something than detailed step-by-step instructions. So the "destroy body" actually means "destroy some specific part of the body" (like a part that is badly damaged and needs to be removed before the rest can be healed), the specifics being up to the alchemist who casts it.

Homunculi are usually recycled when they're dead or almost dead* although it can be used as a punishment in some cases (then it's treated like an execution, because that's effectively what it is). I don't think homunculi are like, officially told about it, but most everyone kinda knows that it happens anyways, including the Naabs. Exactly what the Naabs know about and are complicit in is going to come up in the comic Soon™ so I don't want to get into that here.

Everything is referenced from the 1940s, give or take a few decades depending on what I feel like drawing when I do the concept art.

Lasardhi is mostly self-sufficient at this point, and outside of like, eldritch abominations, the fairies are the only sapient race in this world**.

*Dead due to injuries. Fairies have long lifespans, and homunculi were invented recently enough that none of them are old enough to be "old" much less die of old age, so nobody currently knows what their lifespan is. (If you want the answer though- it's really long, even by in-universe standards. The high-quality homunculi like Huvrye are biologically immortal.)

Thank you, that means a lot to me! Honestly, I don't know. The last few years have been anything but consistent because what I was doing kinda stopped working (mainly, using large amounts of anxiety to try to motivate myself. I don't recommend it. It sucks). And I frequently feel like I don't have enough time/wasted the time I do have. The ADHD diagnosis is pretty recent, so I'm still very much trying to sort out what that means for me and how to deal with that, haha. Here's some stuff that still seems to be working for me though, I hope any of it helps:

I think the biggest thing is making a very strong distinction between projects I must finish (the webcomic, paid work), and things I'd like to finish (everything else). Anything in the latter category gets worked on whenever the mood strikes, and if I don't finish it I don't finish it. Removing the pressure to finish everything I start has really helped me enjoy the process of art more and want to do it more, since I don't need to feel stressed about whether or not I can finish it before I lose interest and want to move onto something else. Like I currently have a bunch of half-done crochet projects that have been sitting around for months and years- I'd like to finish all of them eventually, but none of it really matters if I don't. And for me at least, I've found that my ADHD eventually circles back around to the art mediums I like the most, so if I don't finish a crochet project this time around, there's a good chance I'll pick it up again in a few months or years and continue it then.

(SIDE NOTE this is one of many reasons why I'm always ready to recommend people pick up crochet- it's so so very easy to undo projects (usually) and repurpose the yarn for something else. It's so forgiving if you change your mind.)

For the must finish projects, I do usually try to plan a rough schedule for working on them- ideally a chunk of time with minimal distractions when you still have some energy. And I don't recommend trying to make art every single day- you need time to rest from that too. Bullet journaling (link here for the original how-to, which is much simpler and more straightforward than most current bujo stuff online) has been super helpful for keeping track of when I want to do what, and how far along a project is. Still, there's a lot of days when I sit down at that time to work on a comic page and I really struggle to get started on anything, so I will usually try one or more of the following:

Morning pages (stream of consciousness journaling until I feel like I've got all my thoughts/feelings out, from The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Definitely recommend checking out the book if you're struggling with art block or want to enjoy art more)

Bribery with snack, drink, and/or something interesting to listen to while I work

Start with something smaller for fun/a warmup

Just do it for 20 minutes and then I can stop if I want (20 minutes is usually long enough for me to be warmed up and getting into it if it's an okay day. If it's a bad day I can tell a lot sooner)

Just do the tiniest next step and then I can stop if I want (some days the best I can do is literally just opening the art file and looking at it. But it's one less thing for me to do tomorrow, so it's still more progress than doing nothing)

Also it might sound counter-intuitive since I'm spreading my time out between more projects, but having creative outlets in very different mediums has really helped my mental health. For quite a while my only creative outlet was drawing, which worked well for a long time because I really liked it. But eventually I got burnt out on drawing completely, which left me feeling bad because of burn out and extra bad because I had no creative outlet. At some point I started crochet and got into Minecraft building- both of which are creative, but neither require drawing- and I started feeling better because at least I was making something. And now that I'm back to enjoying drawing, I continue to switch between all of them depending on what I feel like doing, and don't have to rely on doing just one.

I should also note that a lot of art skills are transferable between mediums, so it becomes easier/faster as you go when you try new things. Like digital painting is very different than oil painting, but color theory and composition and perspective and all that still apply to both even if you have to mix paint in one and use the eyedropper in the other. Same with crochet and knitting - I was already used to manipulating yarn and a tool and keeping even tension in crochet, so the transition to knitting was weird but didn't take all that long.
