Toluca suffered a heartbreaking 0-1 defeat to Los Angeles FC in the second round of the 2026 Leagues Cup, with Eddie Segura scoring the decisive goal deep into stoppage time.

The match appeared to be heading toward a penalty shootout after neither side could break the deadlock during regular time. However, LAFC found the breakthrough when Eddie Segura collected the ball near the edge of the penalty area following a clearance by Toluca's defense.

The late goal secured all three points for Los Angeles FC and left Toluca disappointed after coming so close to reaching the penalty shootout.

Federico Viñas Makes His First Start for Toluca

Another notable storyline was Federico Viñas, who made his first start for Toluca since joining the club.

The Uruguayan striker had previously appeared twice for the Diablos Rojos, against Necaxa in Liga MX and Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup. On both occasions, he came on from the bench.

Against LAFC, however, Antonio Mohamed selected Viñas in the starting XI.
