I really don’t understand all those memes and posts that are trying to support birds of prey by saying that it doesn’t have to be a good movie because I honestly enjoyed it. Not a single second did I think a scene was cringy or bad. I didn’t think the costumes were ugly- in fact the looks were really great- and I liked that the overall plot revolves around the women each having their own issues and meeting in the middle. It felt like a Harley comic, which is what I wanted. Idk I just think it’s selling the movie short to be constantly saying that it doesn’t need to be good because it was fun. A movie doesn’t have to be highbrow and academy award winning to be good. In my opinion it should be getting the same treatment as when Deadpool came out but instead we have apologize for having fun? At a superhero movie? We have to sandwich our praise under acknowledgement of its lack of sophistication? If I went to Deadpool fully expecting zany comedy and violence AND had fun and critics and fans alike still called it a ‘good movie’ I can do the exact same thing with birds of prey. Don’t sell it short because men have impossible standards for female characters.
