When you reflect back on your life, and you’re unhappy with it, or you think you’re too far gone and everything is broken, take a few deep breaths. Focus on the deep breath coming in and filling your lungs. Think of your exhale as cleansing or pushing the feelings of sadness/pain out of you. Look around and ground yourself, what objects are near you? Now, focus on the present moment and ask what your past is doing for you. Why does it upset you? Usually its a feeling of regret; something did not happen the way we had expected it to. The way each of us perceives life is unique, what we believe to be in others we see reflected in others. If we see bad intentions, we are welcoming in bad intentions. The mind is extremely powerful in this way. That’s why when thinking to past experiences that caused pain, we can still feel that pain. Our body brings it back, as if we’re in that exact moment. But when this happens, when those thoughts come back, its because we’re still holding on to guilt/regret. Our body may feel that experience again, but we cannot live it again. We may live it in various forms, but never that exact experience. But the good thing is we can learn from that experience. We can feel the pain or guilt, but we cannot let it dominate our lives. A memory only has the power over you that you give it. Anything has power of you if you give it the power. A feeling is not your life. Its strong, your entire body could be trembling, but its the mind that either says “get over this fear and continue” or “let this fear control you.” Your mindset on life, personal and as a whole, is what will get you where you want to be, or what will continue to hold you back. If you believe any experience to have power over you it will, good or bad. But you have the control, you are the one consciously making your actions. Don’t ever believe otherwise.
