Keagan had been listening back on the tracks that the band had recently recorded, playing each track multiple times to listen to a different part. This was the fourth time he was listening to a track they titled âThe Undies Songâ and he was listening to Kylieâs guitar parts. He had to pause the track just before the second verse because she had just blown his mind with her part in the hook. âKylie, your part in the hook is so dope!â he said, turning in the chair, but she was no longer in the studio with the rest of the band. He asked the other two where she had gone, but they seemed busy doing whatever it was they were doing. He heard strumming from outside the studio door and went to check it out, finding Kylie sitting in the hallway. âHey what are you playing out here for?â
Kylie sat still blankly staring at the wall in front of her and still strumming away. She heard the studio door open and turned her head slightly to see Keagan peeking out. âIt got loud in there, I kinda just wanted a quiet space to be for a little while,â she said and figured it was time to let her band know what sheâd been up to. âI have this song... and I wasnât sure if you guys would wanna use it for first EP, you know to add a new song that no oneâs heard yet... or if we should hold off and maybe use it for our next thing?â
Thatâs alright. Raincheck, maybe? And that sounds exciting. Way more exciting that hanging out with a weirdo all night. Recording something?
Aww, for the record I would have loved to hang out with a weirdo, if that weirdo was you. And if you didnât mind hanging out with a weirdo like me too. Yes, yes! Fireproof just finished recording their first signed EP! Weâre sending it off to the producers soon to finalize it!
Yeah at least they kept it semi realistic⌠even though Iâm ninety nine percent sure they both could have fit on that stupid door and survived. But hey, we all find amusement somewhere.Â
You are so right! I mean, they had already done the dirty, why couldnât one of them just lay on top of the other!
âCats do tricks, too. I think they do at least. Hyde isnât really about that though. Heâs boring in that way.â She said and smiled. âHe just doesnât like doing that stuff, but I can get him to sit for a treat sometimes. It depends on the treat. He usually wants a piece of a Ritz cracker. He can have just a little pinch of it. He wonât eat too much of it.â She smiled at her and leaned against the counter. âYeah, he likes you.â She said and reached over to scratch Hydeâs back. âHeâs a little attention whore sometimes.â
âI like when pets do tricks,â Kylie said, lightly petting Hydeâs head. âIâve always wanted one of those dogs that I could train to skateboard, I think that would be cool.â She laughed at the mention of Hyde being an attention whore and noticed how much louder his purrs were when Riley started petting him as well, âOh, I can tell. Hydeâs great, Iâm never gonna get over how great your cat is!â

Thank you for the advice and when I say it like that I start soundinâ like a dad.
If you were a dad, youâd be dad goals.
Scarlet knew that Kylie didnât answer her. She was paying attention, she was waiting for something, but maybe the fact that she didnât answer told her more than what sheâd needed to know. She shrugged when she cleared her throat, didnât press. âThatâs good, I figured you would. Itâs we did too.â Scarlet usually did EPs these days. Almost the whole label had done them. âIt means you can get music out more regularly when you do shorter albums. Itâs good for us too, means we make back costs faster.â Albums could be good, but only if there were people buying them. âYou know William will probably take it apart and make you rewrite parts, right?â There was a moment before Scarlet laughed. âHeâs taken apart everyoneâs music, itâs annoying, you think youâre done and then youâre writing again.â
Kylie was relieved when Scarlet allowed her to just drop conversation about not sharing the song with her band. If she wasnât ready to tell the closest people to her about it, she definitely wasnât going to share it with people outside of her band just yet. âYeah, we thought it was a good idea to record what people have already heard, what we already know they love, before releasing something new,â she said, and her brows drew together at the mention of someone taking apart their hard work just to redo it. âUmm, Keaganâs really good with editing our stuff, hopefully we wonât have to change too much of it,â she hesitated, realizing that maybe that wasnât the best thing to say. They were the newbies after all, if anything, Fireproof needed to be the most flexible with change.
Kennedy was a little bit surprised when  Kylie turned her down. So far no one had thought anything of her getting coffee. Sure, Kennedy had won Warriors Tour once, but this was her job now. âAre you sure? Iâm getting paid for this. Just saying.â Kennedy faked a laugh and rolled her eyes at the thought of it. Maybe today it was just a little much for her.Â
Kylie smiled and nodded, âYeah, weâre fine.â She stopped playing and nodded her head towards the list in Kennedyâs hand. âLooks like youâve already got yourself more than you can carry anyways. Donât worry about us, Fireproof can get their own coffees or whatever.â Kennedy had mentioned that it was her job to do this, but Kylie saw past her fake laugh and smile. She figured her band needed to pay their dues before being catered to and considering it was their first week in the studio, they were barely anybody yet. âReally, weâre fine. Thanks though, Kennedy.â
Lux smiled at Kylie, she was a nice person. She nodded as the girl offered to come along, her smile still on her face. âI feel like Iâve had a lot of breaks.â She laughed, maybe it was all a break. âIâd like it if you came.â Lux agreed and patted her pockets to make sure her keys were there. âI can drive, itâll be fast and we wonât have to be cold.â She nodded her head down the hallway as she started down slowly, waited for Kylie. âThatâs really fast, actually. I guess theyâre pretty edited already though, right? Or are these demos?â
Kylie returned Luxâs smile and skipped to catch up to the older girl, stuffing her hands in her jacket pocket. She realized this was the first time she would be hanging out with someone who wasnât in the band, and a refreshing feeling came over her. âI guess it helped that we wrote a few things during tour, and the fact that itâs an EP, so we donât need 12 whole tracks,â she said, following Lux to her car. âKeagan is really good at editing and mixing and basically making our music sound like final products. Iâm itching to listen to everything as a whole!â
Oliver shrugged. âI donât know, Iâm dumb enough Iâm sure Iâll figure it out. Maybe add some alcohol?â He cocked his head to the side, slightly, going from joking to lending a sympathetic ear. âThat sucks,â he commented. âHave you written stuff alone before?â he asked.Â

âI wouldnât be surprised if alcohol were involved in an event like accidentally tweeting nudes,â she said giggling, then cleared her throat at the mention of writing songs alone. Thatâs what she was doing in the hallway in the first place, trying to figure out which of the multiple songs in her head she woud write first. âI write a lot alone quite often actually.â

âWithout a doubt,â he beamed. âNext time you have writerâs block, Iâll do something else stupid,â he offered. âYou know, I could trip and fall, I could break some dishes, accidentally post a nude selfie to Twitter. Anything to help out my new label mate.âÂ

âIâm actually not blocked... Thereâs just so much going on in there and so much more on my mind, I needed some time out of there...â she admitted, laughing at his offer. âOh, Iâm sure the latter would have everyone writing something, artist or not. Also, how is it that it would happen accidentally...?â
Honestly at one point I stopped watching that part altogether. Right before the boat collides with the iceberg I turn the movie off and pretend everyone ends up surviving in the end. But I still donât watch it very often. Mainly because I know what actually happens in the end.Â
The actual historical event is tragic, definitely! But of course Hollywood had to make it into a love story, which is I guess why I find it entertaining when the ship sinks... There was no clichĂŠ happily ever after.
He bent down to examine the damage. It wasnât too bad - the glass had split neatly in two pieces and there wasnât any glass on the ground.  He propped it up against the wall, figuring someone else would fix it. He broke out into a smile as she strummed her silly tune.  âIâll deny itâŚand then hide it,â he laughed. âThat was pretty good, Iâm always happy to be someoneâs muse,â he joked.Â

âSays heâll deny it, or simply just hide it,â she continued her song. âBut thatâs not what I witnessed, though itâs none of my business... So back on the wall it goes,â she ended her song abruptly, strumming her last chord and quickly muting the noise. Kylie laughed along with him. âI think we have a platinum single on our hands,â she joked back.
Working with Fallout Records probably would have been more interesting if she spent any of her time actually making music. Instead she listened to demos in the offices most of the time, and played piano on a record if she was having a good day. Usually she didnât actually get to write anything, and that was mostly okay. Today was a very bad day, and she had a list of drinks to get for everyone, all she had to do was finish asking the other bands what they wanted. She wasnât expecting Kylie in the hall, and she stopped to listen for a moment before Kennedy pulled her pen from behind her ear. âHey Kylie, do you want coffee? Theyâre sending me out.â She asked, her tone flat. It wasnât something she wanted to be doing, but here she was.Â
Kylie turned her head, continuing to pluck her melody, and saw Kennedy ready with pen to paper for her answer, but shook her head. âIâm fine, thanks,â she said with a small smile. She found the thought of someone else doing simple tasks for her ridiculous, she never needed to be tended to before, so why start now. âNo need to ask the others,â she said, nudging her head towards the studio door. âWeâll be fine.â If her band wanted coffee, they were going to get it for themselves.
Lux shook her head, but she smiled anyway. She knew that Kylie wanted to help, and that was why sheâd said it. It meant well. âSometimes thereâs just a lot of mush in my head and none of it makes enough sense to actually write about.â Lux explained, even if she was pretty sure that it didnât clarify anything. She shrugged and pursed her lips, it was something sheâd spent way too much time thinking about and talking about. âThat makes sense.â She said after a moment and smiled. âSo youâre going to release the best of what everyoneâs heard, and then release more stuff. Seems like a good plan. Theyâre tested to, so you know whatâs best.â She didnât really know what she was talking about, but that was okay. âIs it sounding good so far?â
âAh, you definitely deserve a break then,â Kylie nodded. âWerenât you going out for coffee? I find coffee helps in any and all situations.â She stretched her arms out and stood, unstrapping her guitar and quietly placing it just inside their studio door. âHow about I come with? I know I said coffee wouldnât help, but a raspberry iced tea sounds good right now,â Kylie smiled, hoping it was okay for her to invite herself on Luxâs coffee run. âWe actually have just two more songs to record and weâll be done with the EP. Itâs Keaganâs time in the booth right now, they wonât need me for a while.â

Scarlet was usually small compared to everyone, Kylie was no exception to that. Even sitting down she was smaller, and she crossed her legs and sat up straight because it was the most comfortable thing, and the thing that kept it from being obvious. She considered Kylieâs words for a moment before she tilted her head, her face questioned the girl. âThen how come youâre playing it out here and not in there?â It wasnât like it was overstepping, really. She tapped on her knees lightly with her hands. âHowâs the record going anyway?â
âBecause I--â Kylie began her answer and realized she really didnât know why she wasnât sharing it with her band. Well, she did know, but she didnât know why it was stopping her. She cleared her throat and picked up her guitar again, playing the tab that had been stuck in her head all day. âItâs going good, weâre almost done recording our tour setlist. We decided to release an EP first,â she said, completely moving on from Scarletâs previous question.
Oliver was on his way home for the evening. He didnât particularly have anything planned and wasnât in a rush to leave. Soon, he turned a corner and noticed a girl sitting, plucking seemingly random strings on her guitar. She seemed a little absorbed in her thoughts, so he turned to walk away when his shoulder snagged one of the frames on the wall. The picture fell to the ground with a crash. âDamn it!â He shouted, staring at the now cracked frame. âIâm sorry,â he said, apologizing for breaking the bubble the girl had been in. âI was trying to be quiet I swear.â
Kylieâs head snapped towards the crash and she saw Oliver cursing at a broken picture frame. âOh, no no, itâs okay, I was just... playing, nothing important,â she said, lightly strumming the guitar again as she continued to watch Oliver and see what he would do about the frame. Playing random chords and improvising a stupid song about his situation, âOllie broke a frame, oh what a shame; whatâs he to do, but to buy another brand new?â
