Well, it’s that time of year again.

Fall is in the air. I can smell it when I walk out my door every morning. I can taste it in my coffee. The wheels are turning in my head as I think about NYCC and costumes and candy and pumpkin picking and haunted houses and corn mazes!

Which is why I couldn’t resist doing this quick sketch of Vella in honor of the autumn season.

Speaking of Vella, she’s finally shaping up into who I want her to be. It can be so hard to hold back on things, but I want everyone to be a bit surprised and have new things to look at when they play the game and as it gets closer.

Vella is so emotional. Seriously. That’s not even half of the emotions I have drawn for her, and I have a feeling there’s going to be even more than that!

Vella is definitely one of my favorite characters to draw. She’s a bit over dramatic and seems to be a little on the sarcastic side. The more I draw her the more I feel myself getting to know her.

Let’s dive into what she’s wearing just a little bit more… shall we?

As I mentioned previously Brian takes credit for the design of Vella. But I needed to know what I was actually getting myself into.

When I was planning out her character sheet I did everything in layers so I could better understand what Vella was actually wearing. Her shirt isn’t just any old shirt.. it’s a leotard! She’s also wearing tights and ballet flats… Hmm, I wonder why? Watch how she jazzes it up with a rockin’ plaid skirt, sweater and a bell chocker!

But Vella isn’t all I’ve been up to! I thought I would leave you all with these animated gifs. Yep, that’s right. I’ve been animating, too!

I don’t by any means consider myself an animator, but as an artist in video games, when someone tells you to animate, you learn how.

Simple talking animations. The GIFs were done roughly and the final version will look a lot smoother!

Hellooo! Just sitting here rockin’ out to T-swfits new album ‘1989’ and making video games. How was your weekend?

So I’ve been working on the character “Rory”. Rory has a lot going on in life. He is super complex. His different moods were fun to draw. After reading through the script, I came to the conclusion that Rory is never really happy. I have a list of basic human emotions I look at when drawing each expression, but like all humans, the characters in Y2K aren’t cookie cutter and I can’t use the same list for all of them.

I don’t know if Yuri of Wind has as many freak outs as Rory does…
