She nodded. She wasn’t sure why she hated the Captain so much, but she did, and that was not something she was going to challenge.

Gaila smiled, patting her other self’s shoulder softly in approval. Even in another universe, she was still brilliant - she still understood the important information rapidly. That was good.

"Nope," he grinned, adjusting his red shirt. “Plants. All plants. Every one. Spinach and Andorian stalks and kale and potatoes. That’s everything. Oh, and salad."

Eyes narrowed at him, staring at the meaty dish between his hands. She had half a mind to attack it with her face. But she refrained, “Long day. Basically all plants and bugs and typing. I don’t mind the typing. It’s just the Vulcan giant centipedes that get lost down my shirt that bother me,” she sighed, “I understand it’s a vast culture that has to be preserved. … but giant bugs?”

"But … but not the Captain. The captain has been good to me." Gaila was hesitant to the last part. She had no idea what differed between them. who could have been horrid to her, but not herself.

"The Captain has done nothing for me,” Gaila hissed in reply, obviously not feeling the same debt towards the man as her counterpart. James Tiberius Kirk had only made her life more difficult on the ship - forcing her out of hiding, making her communicate with the higher ranks and drawing their attention. It was a bane in her life. A constant danger lurking over her shoulder.

"Being gone so long, I worry I don’t have many people left to rely on. No one here really knows me. Jim and I are … Our last meeting was before the trial …"

"I know Gai, but you have a chance to meet more of the crew, and I’m sure things can be mended between you and Jim."

"Neither of those are going to happen."

The Enterprise gets sent back in time, and the Doctor has to alter Gaila's skin so that she doesn't attract attention.

"Have you talked to McCoy at all about this? Perhaps something can be done about it for the future. I hate to see you like this; stressed out and restless, it’s not good for you. No matter how much you say you’re fine, you’re really not.”

"Is that what you want? Them as your slaves? Them as what we were? What I am? I would enver wish this life on any person! I would sooner kill them all than make them bow to me."

"Not slaves - I want respect, power. I want to be on top, to have the strength to do what I want without having to ask anyone else for permission," Gaila countered, burning with emotion at the idea of the future she was imagining. 

"But ... but not the Captain. The captain has been good to me." Gaila was hesitant to the last part. She had no idea what differed between them. who could have been horrid to her, but not herself.

The warmth was appreciated, and she curled into her friend. She wanted to be strong, be the Gaila she used to be, but she couldn’t.

Gaila smiled, shaking her head, “A few months back. I’m doing mostly admin and clerical.”

She shifted a bit, nodding, "i thought about it ... but I wasn't sure what to say to you. If I was ..."

The warmth was appreciated, and she curled into her friend. She wanted to be strong, be the Gaila she used to be, but she couldn’t.

She rested her chin on top of Gaila’s head, deeply sighing. Her eyes shut tightly, almost afraid to say what she did.
