I know it's been a long time since I last updated AO3 and posted here. Unfortunately, my email account was hacked, and I had to deactivate it. Because of that, I lost access to my AO3 account, and I may end up losing this account as well.

I'll probably be offline for a while until I can create new accounts and repost everything that was lost. I'll also need some time to set up a new account here

Since Aunt Frances' bullying made Marianne hate card games, Sandokan offered to teach her, specifically how to cheat at cards and other games of chance. She liked that. 😏

Sandokan is very particular about bringing Marianne flowers. He knows those were a common gift from her annoying suitors, so she has a negative view of the gesture. Therefore, he only brings her: medicinal flowers (for her medical studies); unusual flowers that are not typically pretty, and therefore more interesting to her; bougainvillea, because those were the pink flowers that the Dayak children tossed at their "wedding" in the Sabang River (I researched native flowers of Borneo and they matched. They also represent love and passion).

I’m 50/50 with you on this.

For me, Marianna didn’t need Sandokan to teach hershe’s already very good at playing cards after what happened with her aunt. First, because she’s incredibly stubborn and would never have accepted being ridiculed by her for long. I mean, this is the girl who cut her own hand just to prove her aunt wrong. I can easily picture a younger Marianna sitting at her table, playing alone for hours until she finally beats Murray and even then, though impressed, her aunt would never admit it.

One of the moments I was most looking forward to as well, I hope you love it as much as the others.

Marianna is a good singer, like her mother, but she is very shy about her own voice, so she can only sing when she’s distracted. Sandokan always teases her about it, even though he loves hearing her voice.

Both of them are stubborn. Very stubborn. And the crew always ends up making bets on who will apologize first.

Sandokan had a difficult childhood growing up in the brothel, because even though his mother protected him from becoming a companion, he was forced to steal and serve drinks to customers from a very young age and was always beaten when he was caught.

Neither of them admits when they are sick.

Marianna writes notes and sews them into her clothes, first as a way of talking to her mother, but later as a way of telling her story.

Sandokan goes from time to time with the prahu to bring supplies to the Dayak people, sharing food the same way they once shared it with him.

Marianna still misses her father, even knowing everything he did, and wishing things had been different. In the same way, she misses her aunt, who left shortly after she did from the consul’s house.

Sandokan secretly fears waking up blind again and not being able to carry out his duties normally and forgetting Marianna’s face.

The crew threw a party when they finished building their base in Mompracem, and both Marianna and Sandokan consider it their wedding celebration.

* Marianna loves English earl grey tea and Sandokan likes Chinese oolong tea and they both debate about which type of tea is better whenever they drink one of the two, but they still try each other’s tea every time.

*Sandokan is a light sleeper and Marianna is a heavy sleeper

*Even though she has her own clothes now, Marianna still wears some of Sandokan’s old clothes from time to time, and he likes that because it makes him think about how they’ve evolved since she stepped onto that boat.

*Sandokan taught Dayak to Marianna before they go to sleep

*Marianna always tries to scare Sandokan by sneaking up behind him (he always knows she’s there, but pretends to be surprised)

*Sandokan taught some martial arts moves to Marianna, because he’s afraid that one day she might go through some hardship and he won’t be there to make sure she’s okay.

*They both like to watch the sunset when they’re feeling thoughtful

*Marianna is the first to go after sex, Sandokan is the first to go after it too when they fight

*Their wedding ring is a braided leaf because it was the forest that brought them together.

*Sandokan still has nightmares about his parents’ death and Marianna always comforts him by lighting a candle in the dark.

*When Marianna has doubts about something, she always asks Sandokan because she knows he won’t lie to her, even if he has to tell her she’s wrong.

*They both still talk about Sani from time to time.

*When Sandokan feels insecure about not being able to provide the same life Marianna once had, she thanks him for giving her a happy future.
