so angst time when he or ophir or chuuya or nebula get sick, worse than anything they can handle on their own in the village, or badly injured, or even something like appendicitis where professional medical help is necessary

and barbatos having no choice but to get his loved ones there and being terrified for them while getting treatment, he knows other people in the hospital are judging his appearance, the oversized hoodie to hide his ears and scars, tucking his tail inside, pacing back and fourth, trying to comfort the rest of his family, too, trying to keep it together

not calming down until he sees them back safe and sound, until they're all back in their home, in their beds, in their clothes, on edge for days until he's sure they're safe and nothing bad happened to them during surgery and treatment, that they're going to be okay

he tries to keep his tears from ophir but they find him anyway and they remind him he's been really brave! he faced his fears to help others and they're all safe and sound now! that they'll all be okay, none will be experimented on or kidnapped or have any harm come to them

and for the first time in days, he falls asleep with his family, knowing they'd all still be there when he woke up

Thankfuly, Dr. Voodoo sedated and anesthetized his victims before sewing them up, etc! (He simply didn't want his experiments moving on the operating table or anything like that that would get in his way)

Other victims who had a different person as their "owner"/Scientist may have been treated differently and did not have such a "privilege" 🥹

“Come on, Mari! Just a little further!” Dazai called, wadding in the water as he watched the baby girl paddle her way through the water. Her fins were just starting to strengthen, giving her enough muscle to move them, but she had yet to learn to swim with them. She babbled and cooed above the water, dog paddling along the ocean waves towards her brother with bright magenta eyes.

Dazai held his arms out, watching as she steadily got closer while practicing her quick dives beneath the water, breaching the surface with a huff of air. She was quickly learning! Soon, he felt his father would finally move the pod when Mari could successfully keep up with them.

Elise hummed from a few feet away, sitting on an ice float while Yumeno swam around the water, counting each tiny fish that swam by them, “When she’s finally able to swim, I can go to the cove! Rintaro promised us he’d take us to a cove town when we migrate.”

Yumeno popped their head above the water,  tilting their head curiously, “Yeah, but Mama is still recovering! She’s still a bit slow…”

“For good reason,” a sudden deep voice boomed out over the water, Ougai floating on the water with Kayleigh nestled against his chest, her seal coat draped over her as a blanket, “Your mother may be a year since Mari’s birth, but her body has not yet fully recovered. It’s quite a lot on her to have birthed such a strong calf.”

Dazai gently wrapped his hands around Mari’s waist pulling her up into his arms as he swam over to Ougai. Mari giggled, coping as she made small grabbing motions with her hands towards her father’s plush face, Dazai chuckling at his sister’s whims before seeing his exhausted mother, “She’s still healing?”

Kayleigh sighed, yawning as she woke up from her short nap while blinking away the sleep in her eyes, “Yes, darling, I am…. Your sister took a lot out of me. Remember how Ougai had to swim miles to find Yosano to assist me?”
