i have wild sentences roaming through me at all times
reading rpf fic in april: love is real
reading rpf fic in august: you really captured the inextricable corrosive poison that gradually kills them both in this one
21, 33 with VHS Dream (it's on my mind!), 38!
thank you for asking!! i answered 21 and 38 here. i love that many people wanted to know those :)
33. what is your favorite line from vhs dream?
thank you for asking because i was proud of the prose in this story and i feel like some of it was a little different for me. i honestly loved the first paragraph because i couldn't figure out how/where to start at first and i tried that and it felt so much better than anything before. and i liked the phrase "a ship's bell of a thought." "everything felt very literal now" is a sentence i have wanted to use since getting into this mess and i was glad to finally use it. and FINALLY... to me the thesis of the whole story is "of course we get away, it's our movie"!! when i realized that it was a mic drop moment in my mind lol...
you did not ask but hands down my favorite line from slippery people that nobody else seems to have liked this much is "polar bears were floating helplessly on little fucking icebergs!"
21 and 38!
answered them here :) thank you!

author asks!! v curious about 38, 21 (if you feel like sharing), and/or 27. dear yeats-infection, your writing -- the way you fearlessly follow the threads of sublimity in the world all the way to their sources and set them thrumming -- is incredible. I read (and then right away reread) Listeneise and Source Codes last year, during what was otherwise a time of drudgery and emptiness, and was deeply consoled. thank you.
thank you my friend :) i do my best!!! i got a very nice comment recently that said "you're not afraid to go where it hurts." i like that!! i mean i wouldn't know where else to go. human beings make art and consume art for purposes of primal emotional catharsis...! that's why we are here. it means a lot to me that it has resonated with you!!
these were some hard ones to answer... and i'm skipping 27 because i couldn't think of anything!! anything i want to answer at least :)
21. what is something no one has caught about one of your fics?
i sometimes will use turns of phrase that are direct lyrical quotations from songs especially if they are thematically relevant in some way or if i feel like the characters might know them. i was very excited that i used the phrase "in the mouth a desert" (the pavement song) in a recent fic and somebody caught it. in the barrel there is a sneaky line from "good morning captain" by slint. i also often feel like my absolute favorite lines from my stories are not necessarily or at all the ones that stand out to others... like whatsoever!
38. fic idea you're most excited to get into?
i think i have time to write one more ntb thing before i have committed to myself that i will start working on draft 3 of the novel. so i need to think about what that might be. if anyone has any requests... lol. but i've also wanted to write another original novel for a long time about a thirty something performative male manipulator / total failure / bisexual disaster / upstate townie rock climber trying to atone for his sins on a grief odyssey after his older female mentor dies. i have like 10,000 words here and there... i really should just dive in!! because my goal is for it to be funny... which will be a relief after the one i just finished...
32 &40 if you havnt already… ive been reading your work since i was a tiny teen and am now actually a full grown adult and basically i think its all been more foundational for me than most published works, and also taken me from the years where a bad ending was unacceptable (i would stop reading a bit before) to something so interesting and fun to cut my teeth on… also as ive been saying in comments for years probably i cant wait until you publish your book. much love !
oh man thank you my friend :) it means a lot to me that you have been reading my work for that long!! you have definitely seen me grow a lot as a writer. now i'm working on a book that actually feels commercially publishable maybe, so we will see!! i'm trying :)
32. out of all your fics, what is your favorite title
i don't really think i'm very good at titles, i have always just named most things after songs. not to continually toot the horn of this fic but i did think the g-spot was inspired as all of the nirvana the band episodes are named with words beginning with B... but those are about Boys... and in this version they are Girls... i also like harmonic oscillator, theme from an imaginary western, a metal-eating flower (though that one is from brautigan)
40. happy endings or sad endings?
i don't necessarily want to choose. i think they both have to be earned... and more often what is earned is something that is nuanced or bittersweet. however i am aware that many people think that an ending that to me is nuanced or bittersweet is to them only laden with bludgeoning angst
