Wearable Wednesday
For my last Wednesday, I HAD to pick a shawl, and that it's by a favorite designer is all the better.  Check it out. This is Deep End by Heidi Kirrmaier.
I love the staggered shape and her use of colors is brilliant! I am sure I have enough colors of sock yarn that I could do this without even buying new yarn. lol That is IF I had my stash unpacked after my recent move.Â

Miscellaneous Monday
I love adding ruffles to things, but sometimes I have a hard time telling what the ruffle might look like when I'm done. The Tricksy Knitter can help demystify ruffles with their round up of ruffle techniques found on their blog here. Â I think this post is awesome because it can inspire you as a knitter to slap a ruffle on something and take a little designer's risk. Try some out! It's bound to be good fun.Â

Summer is sometimes the last season people think about knitting sweaters, but I think that is a mistake. Take the sweater above for an example (it's Poncho Top by Sára Mrdalo and EyĂ°leyg Ă GarĂ°i). I love that it has eyelets and is made from a DK weight yarn. I think this one works particularly well in our climate in East Alabama and West Georgia. I would love to see this knit out of Berroco Vintage Dk.Â

Miscellaneous Monday
Holes happen in knitwear when we love a piece so much that we actually wear it out. Socks are notorious for having holes in them because our feet do so much work for us. This article on TwistCollective offers multiple ways to darn those pesky holes. I love the ingenuity of all of them. The next time I have a hole pop up in my woolies, I'm going to try one of those techniques out!Â
Sheepish Sunday (on a Monday)
Many of you probably are on the Yarnhouse Studio mailing list, so you've probably heard by now that Cary is selling the store. Â If not, here's the notice from the newletter:
"This is your newsy note to tell you that we are selling Yarnhouse Studio!
 Wonderfully, it will STAY RIGHT HERE! We are ecstatic, to say the least, that we will all get to keep coming to this wonderful place. The buyers are some of our own customers, and although they will make many needed changes, many things will stay the same, but even better!
 We want to take this opportunity to tell you how very, very much all of you have meant to us. We (Anne and Cary) will always look back at this as one of the very most wonderful things we ever did. A HUGE part of that has been you. Our customers have brought us so much joy, and we have learned from and been inspired so much by you all. Thank you for coming in; thank you for returning; thank you for supporting us; thank you for being a part of our lives. Â
 The changeover in ownership will happen at the end of this month. Anne is only at the store for one more week, for then she is going to Colorado to see her youngest daughter! Cary has already started working only on Saturdays, and so she will be here next Saturday as her last full day at the store (although will also be at the twoTuesday night knitting groups left in July). Both of us look forward to coming to knitting groups in the future, so we'll still be around! Anne will continue teaching weaving beginning in September.
 The new owners are named Jan and Deb, and they are sisters. I'm sure they will send out a newsletter introducing themselves soon, but I'll go on and tell you that they bring an amazing skillset to the store. One thing they will add to the store, for instance, is dyeing! So get ready for some in-house dyed yarns, for one thing.  :)  We can't wait to see what else new they bring in. Â
 Again, thank you a million times for being part of Yarnhouse Studio!!

As the resident blogger, I am so happy for everyone that this change is happening. I am going to turn the reins over in August for the blog as well, so this is my last month of driving this crazy train. I've been having so much fun doing this, but time marches on and things change. I'm so glad to have met so many great folks through the shop and the blog. :D Thanks y'all! -Lacey

Some of you may know this already, but many may not. I am from Cordele, Georgia, known as The Watermelon Capital of the World. Every summer, Cordele throws down a mean parade and Watermelon Festival. If you are ever over that way in June, you should make sure your trip hits on Watermelon Weekend. I may or may not have won a seed spitting contest in my past, and I might or might not have been crowned first runner up for Little Miss Seedling in 1989.
Anyway, all of that is a long way to say I love watermelons. I think they are the absolute perfect symbol of summer, and they remind me of being back home. I saw the picture above on Pinterest (where else?!), but the link to Martha Stewart didn't work anymore. I still wanted to share, so here are some free knitting and crochet patterns for watermelon potholders on Ravelry.Â
Happy Summer y'all! Getcha watermelon on! :D I think we've got some great colors in of Cascade Luna and also Ultra Pima that would make perfect watermelons and honeydews.Â

Stripes are good fun, and I love to knit them into things, but boy they can be a mess at the beginning of the row! Â Here's a tutorial from Webs for making that jogless join for stripes. Maybe this can help me sort out the beginning of those rows!
Sheepish Sunday
Check out the ears on that sheep! Oh, wait. No. Not ear. The horns! Check out those super twisty awesome horns! This is a Wallachian sheep which is a breed from Europe and central Asia. It has been farmed for milk, meat, and fiber. I want one of these as a pet, but can you imagine if your pet Wallachain got mad? Watch out! haha

Check out this sweet little summer sweater. I love the stitch in the yoke. This sweater is Summer Top Mustard Shades by Claudia Finlay.
It calls for lace weight, and I bet it would be a show stopper in Malabrigo Lace (though you'd need to care for it carefully). Â A lovely sweater in lace weight seems like something I want to wear in the summer time to keep the chill of the AC out of my bones. Â

The ever lovely Cecily Glowik MacDonald is back at it. Another simple cardi that I think begs to be added to most wardrobes. This is Sway. It's generously sized from a 31 1/4" bust to a 56" bust. It calls for 830-1420 yards of a fingering weight yarn and size 6 needles. I love this sweet, unassuming cardi. I love pieces like this that could be made in any color and go with so many body types.Â

Weaving has been the most recent craft I swore I didn't want to do but now can't stop thinking about constantly. I know. Never say never. When will I ever learn? ahaha Â
But check out this tutorial for branch weaving. Doesn't that look super cool? I'm sure some of you have little hands home for the summer, so this could be a fun project to do together (smaller and simpler obviously). I also love this for using up those random ends of skeins (I am a scrap project HOUND!). Happy twig hunting!

Happy Fourth of July!  I hope wherever you are that you are safely enjoying some downtime, bbq, and sunshine (with your knitting of course!). Today's pattern is a cute decoration for today, and I bet you could whip one of these up by the end of the afternoon if you put your mind to it. It's the Patriotic Wreath for Knitters by Kristen McDonnell.  It calls for worsted weight, but I bet if you held worsted doubled and decreased the number of stitches cast on, you could burn through this knit a little more quickly. I'd love to see this in the Luna (nubbly soft cotton yarn by Cascade). We've got some great patriotic colors in stock right now.Â

If you've followed the blog long, you'll be familiar with how I sometimes break my own rules and justify a post that doesn't really fit on the day I share it. Today's post is one of those. This isn't necessarily something YOU could wear, but he is wearing pjs, so it counts. Totally counts.
This is a cute new critter by one of my favorite toy designers,Susan Claudino.  I have linked to a ton of her toys previously, and this one might actually be a front runner for top honors. I love it so much! Those toes! Those fingers! LOVE!  Allow me to introduce you to Wild Thing by Susan Claudino. A careful observer will notice some passing resemblance to a cutie character from a well beloved and well known children's book. Check out the cuteness of that tushie flap! ZOMG! You know you want to break the rules this Wednesday and cast on RIGHT NOW! hahaha You are welcome. I can resist everything except temptation.Â

You ever see something and realize THAT is the thing your life was missing? Yeah. Me too. All the time. The cinnabon minis at Burger King. These crochet solar lamp covers. Drive through margarita stands.Â
Ok. Maybe not that last one. But those others are good, especially the crochet solar light covers by Heidi Yates. With festive patriotic holidays and plenty of reasons to party outside coming up, I thought this would be a great one to share. Can't you just imagine how cute they'd be in your yard? Use junky acrylic that you totally hate or cotton scraps that have been rolling around in the bottom of your stash so long you can't remember what they are. This would make a great gift too!
