THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: reigen crossing paths with teru before teru ever crossed paths with mob. i have literally not stopped thinking about this for even a single moment all day. reigen ‘greatest psychic of the twenty-first century’ arataka crossing paths with hanazawa ‘greatest living being in the entire history of humankind & obviously also its greatest psychic’ teruki. there is no way this wouldnt be a total fucking trainwreck. good luck reigen, better get your affairs in order.
FOR STARTERS: reigen talks an extremely good game, but teru has no interest in listening to anyone who likes the sound of their own voice more than the sound of his.
teru also has a proven tendency to violently interrupt people mid-sentence by going straight on the attack, particularly in order to test their claims of psychic ability for himself. reigen is fantastic at talking rings around people, but unfortunately for reigen that ability is useless against someone who will have attacked before reigen has the chance to complete even a single loop.
please take a moment to think about how hard teru goes for mob the literal instant he realises mob is also psychic, even though teru is 100% confident that mob is a worthless psychic nonentity compared to him AND even though mob is as meekly unassuming & unassertive about his powers as its physically possible to be.
please take another moment to think about how much harder teru would presumably go for someone with the nerve to brazenly introduce himself to teru’s face as the greatest psychic of the twenty-first century and then follow up this initial offence by handing teru a business card printed with the exact same shameless & unacceptable lie, implying that he dares to spread this misinformation on a regular basis around the entire city.
PLEASE TAKE YET ANOTHER MOMENT TO THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES FOR REIGEN AS SOON AS TERU REALISED HE WASNT EVEN PSYCHIC AT ALL AND YET HAD STILL DARED TO CLAIM HE WAS NOT ONLY ON TERU’S OWN LEVEL…….
……………..BUT ABOVE HIS LEVEL
i mean this is a boy who feels a strong energetic passion for:
establishing his superiority
establishing others’ inferiority
committing grievous & alarming acts of violence
using psychic power to crush non-psychics into submission
his own overwhelming contempt for non-psychics (weak, stupid, pathetic, useless, existing solely to adore him)
really really really punishing those he feels have wronged and/or disrespected him
having zero sense of compassion or remorse to stop him from going way the fuck overboard with any of the above. he does what he wants because hes always done what he wants, and no one is physically capable of stopping him, and no one else would ever believe hed ever done it anyway.
LOOK ME IN THE EYES AND TELL ME A COMMONER DARING TO PASS HIMSELF OFF AS A REAL PSYCHIC WOULDNT BE THE PERFECT STORM!!!!! every last one of teru’s awful passions, now united at last against a single unsuspecting target <333

SET THE SCENE: just another ordinary day. reigen merrily introduces himself as a top-notch psychic to a nice friendly middle school boy who happens to be passing by. teru is instantly privately committed to destroying him. reigen is presumably still merrily introducing himself when teru commences the test of psychic strength. reigen is not expecting to be attacked no-holds-barred by this nice friendly child & also cannot produce a barrier, he is frankly already fucked, he is also already clearly not actually psychic at all. he has failed teru’s test, so the test is over, but now reigen has to pay for having ever claimed to be better than teru in the first place.
its really just housekeeping after this point. reigen is an unspeakably pathetic & irrelevant background character who dared to get ideas above his station, he needs to be made an example of so that all those other unspeakably pathetic & irrelevant background characters are reminded of their rightful place, i.e. grovelling in the dirt at teru’s feet.
nature has a hierarchical food chain and teru’s at the top. it just causes trouble when plankton starts thinking it can compete with the lions, teru’s doing what he has to do to correct the status quo.
AND JUST IN CASE ANYONE READING THIS IS GETTING THE WRONG IDEA ABOUT THINGS LIKE ‘ANGST’ AND ‘REIGEN ANGST’ AND ‘ANGST INVOLVING REIGEN’: I THINK THIS ENTIRE CONCEPT IS FUCKING HILARIOUS <333
