Kallias laughed at the retort. Though a werewolf could indeed lie, he had not. It would always be Yannis first that Kallias cheered for when it came to the Colisseum; that special bond that formed between criminals was something Kallias had always treasured.
His voice raised a bit as he continued, loudly scandalized. "Some folks at the tavern were talking about that, uh, vampire... Valyrian something, whatever - the vampire who attacked Eterna!" He said, banging once at the table. "He escaped or something? How'd he manage all that magic and drama? Insanity. Closing up the games and businesses in the city... How are you supposed to make your coin?" He started to flag down a server. "This one will be on me," he insisted with a smirk. "No shortage of coin on the high seas." Kallias made a habit of insinuating Yannis should be a pirate whenever they met. "So, what's Penelope been saying?"
Yannis at first wondered where Kallias was going with bringing up the vampire that had been the talk of the town recently. âWell he could be anywhere, some say he hasnât left the city yet. That he prowls the streets looking for folk to feed on.â it definitely made anyone want to walk in sets of two not that it would make much of a difference if you encountered Valyrian. âHow do you think he managed it? The towers magic isnât exactly weak or simple, like they are trained witchesâ had they got complacent with his prison? Were the witches as good as they made out to be? âWe are just lucky we have some gold stock piled for emergencies, might have to tighten my purse strings.â that means less trip to the taverns. âOh buddy you donât want to hear how she's been cursing your name. Something about how sheâd commit violence upon you. If you see water in odd places I'd be worried if I were you.â Penelope would never hurt Kallias but the threat was funny enough.
Chuckling, Fiore tilted his head, resting a hand on his hip. âLook, if it ever gets that badâand by bad, I mean youâre seconds away from being strapped into their armor and swearing their gods-awful oathsâI know someone. Not saying theyâd love to help, but they owe me a favor, and Iâm good at collecting. Iâd offer to pull strings now, but letâs be honest, your other half would pitch a fit if I so much as suggested it.â
Straightening, Fiore tapped the bar with a knuckle, grinning again as he picked up on her puddle jokes. âCome on. I can see it nowââFear the Dame Drip!â The announcerâs voice trembling as he calls your name, the crowd screaming in terror, people fleeing the stands as you walk out completely soaked.â He gave a faux shudder. "That's the stuff of nightmares.â
âBut Fiore they practically have already!â exaggerate much Penelope? In all honesty they had been lovely to join but they all celebrated the violence Penelope hated, found it too comfortable for her liking. âThere's this owlbear that I swear has it out for me, I can see it in her eye that she is plotting my downfall.â Scylla had caught her in her water form sneaking in from a guild mission and the look she would give was like the owlbear was collecting evidence. âIâd appreciate any help but you are right, Yannis would go nuts and I'd rather not deal with that.â
âThey are gonna walk out wet from all their laughter, Fiore.â She really had no faith in herself when it came to performing as a gladiator. âWould you be scared if I got you wet?â the words slipped from her mouth before she had time to grab them and make the sentence less inappropriate. âIf you say nightmare fuel, I'm gonna come around that bar so fast.â
Julian nodded, a mild grin as the other as he immediately fell into any sort of rhythm to warm up, bouncing from foot to foot, shaking his wrists as though ridding his body from any stiffness. He'd any advantage if this was some race or competition, the endurance of a wolf transcending even to the human form of himself, jogging towards Yannis who still faced him. A pace was met, Julian falling two steps behind, purposeful about his stride. Through breaths he noted, "It's been quiet around here?" He wasn't sure if Yannis had remained nearby, keeping with training regimens, sparring when he could. Julian certainly hadn't seen him in the destruction of Aventia but perhaps that was for the best.
As Julian jogged after him, Yannis didnât turn the right way around; he stayed trying to jog backwards. To keep up with all the supernatural beings he needed to train harder differently and if he could move his pace backwards he would in turn get faster at running forwards. âSadly so, I have had to get creative while folks were away.â Yannis had gone after the training hard, this was his dream and he wasnât taking any chances with it and Aventia was something both him and Penelope had agreed to stay away from, after he had his first match in that sand then it would be the time to go out and earn more notoriety. â I heard that you went, what was it like? The rumours of darkspawn canât be true can it?â That was just a bedtime story to keep kids from misbehaving.
The fan's eagerness was founded, but he was more than just a fan, the bonified gladiator was intent on making a name for himself - family be damned. Conan thought of a fitting song, leaning into the original piece as he took the stage and offered a tribute dedicated to an end of innocence and the turning of a new chapter. "This is dedicated to my new gladiator friend here, he's part of the Thalassir Ludi, be sure to watch his next match." Conan smiled, and then he began. Thin and delicate, Conan's voice threaded from the stage as his faithful lute remained saddled across his midsection. A few delicate plucks across the strings accompanied the darkfriend's voice, whispering through the crowd. He fixed on his patron for a brief moment, trailing intentionally through the number as the crooner's features softened through the conclusion.

With a bow, Conan took his leave from the stage. There were few differences between bards and gladiators, at their core they were all entertainers. Yannis seemed nice, innocent. Conan hoped the sands didn't take that from him, or worse, that he did not die for the amusement of others.
"When did you know?" The question had been at the back of his mind when he stepped on stage, so when he stepped off he brought it up now. "That you wanted to be a gladiator."
Yannis settled into a song that was dedicated to him, finding a seat directly in the eye sight of the bard, tankard edging his lips. He hadnât expected it to resonate with him so deeply. It was like the bard had seen into his soul and expressed it to the room, who was this bard? Was he a witch? Yannis was so enraptured by the bard that he noticed the time fly by, not a drop of ale had been swallowed before he knew it the song was over. Making sure to put his drink down he led the crowd in celebration of the song, he encouraged others to get to their feet and clap for the talent before them.
âThat was⌠that was amazing! Where did you learn to sign like that?â not that Yannis was going to venture into the arts himself, he was trying to be appreciative of the others talents. âI must have been five, six when I saw Dior in the sand. He really played to the crowd and I fell for how they adored him, how they praised him. I remember going home that day with a wooden replica of his sword. Terrorised my parents with it.â His parents had thought his ambition to be like Dior was cute at first and became a worry when it didnât fade. They were thankful that Penelope had been doing so well within the thieves guild that her career took precedence over Yannis' dream.

It wasnât necessarily that Nurcan expected Penelope not to respond, but at the same time, part of her hadnât expected her to respond despite going out of her way to send her the letter in the first place. With all the chaos of the last few months, she had expected her response to be lost in the rush of life, so getting a response as quickly as she did itâs a pleasant surprise.Â
Itâs even more of a surprise as she reads the letter and she finds herself smiling at the curiosity it exudes. There are things she canât discuss, and that she wonât be ready to discuss, but it is rather nice to have someone ask the questions nonetheless.
Another letter! Penelope was over joyed to hold the legionnaires letter within her hands. Stood in her room she shared with Yannis she stood infront of the mirror and read the letter allowed. âI think we are making a friend Yannis.â Not that he had any input on what Penelope would reply with. âJust donât make me look to bad huh?â Yannis knew everything was shared with love but he didnât want to look to bad in the legionnaires eyes.
Sitting down to write more it became easy to share information that she wouldnât otherwise, maybe it was easier because she didnât have to see the immediate judgement on their face. Maybe they should make all their friends like this.

A contract form the Spider
Objective: Break into the rival guildâs safehouse, locate the ledger, forge false entries, and return it without being discovered.
A note from the Spider: "A rival guild dares to tread into our territory, gathering blackmail material on the cityâs most powerful figures. My informants tell me their leader is hiding a ledger in a safehouse near the docks, detailing every secret theyâve uncovered. Youâll retrieve this ledger for me, but not before adding a little of our own spin to it. Forge a few entries to implicate the rival guild in treasonous acts. Return the ledger intactâexcept with our alterationsâand ensure no one knows weâve tampered with it."
