Wispy Dragon

Slim and lightweight Wispy Dragons' natural habitat are crystal clear rivers and streams. Despite this, these beautiful creatures don't have any fins and even their feet lack any webbing at all. They also don't have gills, so they have to surface once in a while to take a breath. They swim gracefully thanks to their long, blue, serpentine bodies, bending and squirming in nearly hypnotizing patterns. Their bodies produce low amounts of transparent slime to help the dragon travel more smoothly. The flat, silver-colored ribbons sprouting from the head and tail sparkle in the water when the light hits their surface. Usually females have longer ribbons than males. While Wispy Dragons feel the happiest in the water, they don't mind crawling out in searching for food slightly different than aquatic snails they're almost obsessed with; much more plentiful land species of these invertebrates seem to taste just as good. The dragons use their dexterous clawed "hands" to open the shells with ease and get to the flesh. Eggs of Wispy Dragons are semi-transparent and almost perfectly round. Their surface is covered in a thin layer of sticky substance which keeps the eggs clumped together and stuck safely onto rocks or water plants. They're guarded by both parents interchangeably until they hatch, and hatchlings stay close to the adults until they're able to take care of themselves.

Shimmering Wyvern

Shimmering Wyverns are named so due to the shiny, iridescent scales covering their whole bodies, and the fact they leave a subtle trail of sparkling dust in flight. Petting these creatures is not advised as the scales and coarse fur fall off easily. It isn't much of a problem for the wyverns as mentioned scales and fur grow back... eventually.

While their beauty is appreciated by many, the dragons themselves have a quite playful and silly attitude towards everything surrounding them. They're typical hoarders, attracted to shiny and glowy objects, from fish scales to gemstones to human jewelery and even weapons which disappear as soon as the curious wyverns spot them. Shimmering Wyverns often mock and pulls pranks on other creatures for fun, regardless of size differences, physically or using dark magic; fortunately, the pranksters are agile fliers and can escape fast to save their own tails if necessary!

Floof Lindwurm

There is no secret where does the name of Floof Lindwurms come from. They're incredibly gentle and patient beings who were never seen fighting, and their fur and feathers are so silky soft it attracts other creatures who come to snuggle - regardless of them being naturally aggressive or not. Due to this trait they don't have any natural enemies... except humans, who are not affected by the Lindwurms' magic. The sad part is that Floof Lindwurms are sometimes hunted for trophies which are priced highly on the market. However, smarter people simply keep the Lindwurms as cuddly companions, and collect fur and feathers without causing any pain to the animals.

When winter comes, Floof Lindwurms form groups and head to caves where they hibernate through the frigid season, snuggled together in a form of snoring piles of fuzz.

The Creation

The Creation comprises a single mass of land surrounded by endless seas. Out of its very center rises the highest mountain peaks in the world, known as The Reach. Below these soaring peaks one can find a ring of ancient and unspoiled forests cut through with rivers, a place sometimes call the Origin Woods. These rivers flow from rainfall and snowmelt in the central mountains, collecting in a ring-like lake known as Moat that empties into the river-crossed Deltan Plains to the south before flowing into the sea. The great northern forest of Pinelock borders to the north just below the frozen range of the White Spires. Above the spires the land turns to icy tundra of the Snow Sea. The temperate climates are where the largest cities can be found in the rolling prairie of Wheatlands and the pleasant woodlands of Ren. The southern mountains are a dry maze of canyons and needle-like towers of rock called the Stone Lands, a place deeply carved by wind and sand from the Fireshore -- a desert which stretches from the base of the canyons all the way to the sea. A volcano rising out of the canyons of stone lands flows with lava that expands the continent into the sea and tropical forests and islands dot countryside around the dangerous lava flows. This volatile place is called the Black Sand Keys by the locals who dare to live there.

The Reach

Legend has it that this these are the peaks atop which the historic meeting between the human leaders of the factions and the legendary dragons took place at the end of the Contestment. Today, this hallowed place is a proving grounds where the greatest warriors of the factions meet once a year to engage their dragon teams in epic battles--this ritual serves as both a reminder of the sacred oaths the factions made to abide the rules of fair contest, and as celebration of the partnership between dragon and human kind.

The World As It Stands

The wellsprings of the world are controlled by the three main Origins (also known as factions listed below) which correspond to the origin types of the dragons. Each origin type in turn has three dragon types associated with it, and each dragon type has many species within it. Dragons are usually found and befriended in areas near wellsprings.

Stormweaver

Dark and sleek Stormweavers are a species of dragons known of producing their own clusters of clouds via combining magic with manipulation of water particles in the air. The large, fluffy structures serve various roles, they’re created either to impress a potential mate, defend themselves in case of danger, to fill their artistic needs, or… use as a floating nesting material, as these dragons are able to walk and sleep on the clouds they produce. Unlike these created by nature itself, clouds sculpted by Stormweavers don’t disappear until their creator casts a cancelling spell. The Stormweavers can fly not thanks to magic, or wings they actually lack - but levitating basing on electromagnetic forces. The long, wispy whiskers work like a compass; the red one always points at north, while the blue one points at the south; therefore the sight of a Stormweaver peacefully wandering through the sky brings happiness to every lost traveler, either a human or a dragon one. The dragons are solitary outside breeding season. When two of them meet, regardless of sex, they begin a strange yet spectacular duel in art, both creating it and destroying. The goal is simple: create a larger cloud than the opponent and avoid it being ruined. The game, depending on how patient the dragons are, may last an entire day without stopping.

In the beginning, the world was created by three primeval spirits--referred to in forgotten legends as the Origin Dragons. The Origin Dragons not only created the world but also provide the energy which gives life to their descendants--the dragon spirits who guard and sustain the creation. Because of this lineage, every dragon has magic which it uses to help maintain the creation in some way. The most powerful of the dragon spirits have great responsibilities in the world, such as guiding the rising and setting of the sun, making the tides and winds, and maintaining the cycle of the seasons. The most powerful of these can even control the flow of time itself--although dragon scholars sometimes debate the existence of Chronos Dragons, common folklore is full of stories about them and children grow up believing that whenever they feel a sense of déjà vu it is because a Chronos Dragon is nearby.​

Not all dragons are so mighty however, many smaller dragon spirits are needed to help protect the Wellsprings--sacred places where magic bubbles up into the world and allows the greater dragon spirits to continue to shape creation. These dragons, unlike their mythical kin, are present at a level that humans can see and comprehend. Over the centuries, humans grew in power and will leading them to create civilizations and technology based on the wellsprings. This human power eventually rivaled the magic of the lesser dragon spirits to the point where some of the dragons took an interest in humans. Humans began taming these dragons and creating an alliance with small teams of dragons to further the causes of creation.

But not all humans (or dragons) agree how to best protect the Creation, nor do they always see eye to eye about what forces and magic should take priority and receive the lion's share of the wellspring's magic. The influence of the Origin Dragons is felt in a dragon spirit's Origin Type and this leads them into frequent conflict as the wills of the Origin Dragons were not always in perfect harmony.

There was a war early in the history of the world, known to historians as The Contestment, which was over access to the wellsprings. When the Contestment began claiming human lives, the dragons, who are immortal and thus horrified by death, called on the legendary dragons to intervene.
