“I‘ve been spending ages staring at myself in the mirror, trying to figure out if there are still places of me you never got to touch. These days I can no longer tell which parts of me belong to you and which are entirely mine. I gave so much of myself away that the lines got blurred a long time ago and now I‘m not sure if this is how I always was or if this is what you turned me into. This weary ghost of a person assembled of broken off pieces and shattered fragments that no longer fit together like they’re supposed to. You might think you fractured my spirit but in hindsight you only taught me how important it is to not lose track of who I am. You gave me the chance to get to know myself again, brand-new and grown, and that‘s what I‘ve been trying to do every day since you left and cut me open to the core, wondering who I even was before you came into the picture. On some days I remember and on some days I don’t, but the times I look at my reflection and a feeling of recognition overcomes me are growing in number.
