Poc—most often Black African Americans —always have to put 110% into anything that they do to receive even half of what white people naturally get. It goes beyond systemic racism and effects every aspect of life. If a black woman is not another Anok Yai, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, she is hardly given any chance in the social sphere. However, white woman are given/allowed to be the, “girl next door” archetype. In the social realm, white woman are perceived as always being higher on this imaginary hierarchy. It is like a social ladder. White men are on top, second place is the white woman and (in this context) black men third, black woman dead-last.

Black men are particularly special because they are able to ascend or descend said social ladder. Black men are able to accumulate wealth, indoctrinate themselves with the white crowd, shed themself of the black woman and suddenly take second place on this imaginary ladder. The more prejudice they afflict onto the black woman, the more pegs on the ladder appear. They are temporarily freed and believe they are just a man amongst men. No longer just a black man. However, black women are unable to shift like black men do. If a black woman accumulates wealth and reach the same prowess as her white counterparts, they move the line of “success” another ten miles. Even if she has a white man, she is not nearly as welcomed to the crowd as a black man is. She cannot ascend the ladder because not only is she black, but also a woman. She faces two times the challenge.

Anytime a black man says he prefers white woman, or does not date dark skin women, he believes he is greater than that of black people. To be with a white woman is to ascend that ladder, to ascend to greatness.

Okay, well how does this play into the music scene, and where do asian women come into play?

It is a mix of colorism and the negrophillia of the black man. It is no surprise to say that asian women are heavily infantilized and simultaneously sexualized by American society. Asian women are seen as docile, kind, and submissive whilst also being “exotic” and fair skinned. Black men in the underground scene gravitating towards asian women is the same reason they do white women. To feel like they’re part of greatness. There is also the implementation of the taboo nature of interracial relationships—specifically with black men. Look back at American history. Black men were essentially bulls used to breed more slaves. To have a “bull” defile a fair skinned woman (white or asian) is a sexual taboo and the sexualization of black trauma. In the culture, black men hate to seem like the victim. To most, Instead of self reflection and healing, dominating the oppressor seems easier. But all it does is create a positive feedback loop.

Let’s bring it back to asian women. The rappers who actively want to approach greatness (whiteness), but want something more exotic, goes to an asian woman. Specifically east asian. It’s the mix of wanting to be different, mysterious, etc and feel superior than just being a black man. In the end they all end up being exactly the same. Through the social ladder, subconscious colorism and heavy sexualization and dehumanization of woman, we see such a shift in the underground. It is either you are hated, or you are sexualized. Both are quality dehumanizing and all lies within patriarchy, sex, and racism. The usual suspects.
