Book 3/20 completed! In 2021 I hope to improve my skill of writing book reviews 😅 they aren't bad, just basic. Here's my review of #bravenewworld (no spoilers!): Wow! What a read. I felt like the beginning was a bit slow, but realized that it was actually a quite well thought out set up for the rest of the book. I feel as though the book is the perfect size for its contents. I feel as if each character was adequately developed. The story line was well paced (minus my feelings on the slow beginning.) I enjoyed reading this book, as well as using my imagination to think about what life would be like if that was our society today. There's a lot to be said for the concept of KISS (keep it simple, stupid) but obviously all of life's intricacies and complexities are part of what makes it so great. I also love reading about different death cultures and practices, and wonder what a world would look like if most people in our society today didn't fear dying from aging. If death wasn't a capitalist endeavor, as it's been transformed into, what would our practices look like? First hard copy book of 2021 completed! (Circe was on @audible) This was a fun read recommended by my Dad 😊 Here's my review (no spoilers!!) for those interested: The concept behind this book is quite intriguing, and really creative. It got my own gears turning about what life would be like in a multidimensional afterlife. Some of the history aspects were lost on me because history was never my subject, but I don't think it made the book hard to follow. The character development was interesting and well thought out, but left me wanting a little bit more backstory behind each although maybe that wasn't the point...maybe it would have detracted from events later. For me the set up was a little slow and scattered at times, but I can also recognize the importance of choosing a slow set up. Towards the end I couldn't put it down!! Would definitely (and have already) recommended it to a few people, and would definitely read other works by Hannu Rajaniemi.
