Anon, you have no idea what kind of podcast episode-with-myself-style of monologue you started with that question!!! I had multiple questions come up because there were just so many things to consider.

Like, can you only have one soulmate? Personally, I think, no. Mostly, because I consider myself lucky enough to assume I have more than one out in the world.

BUT this also brought up the question: Is a soulmate strictly of romantic kind? I think no, I think that’s a very limiting way to think of it. What if you never fall in love? In that case, can your sister who was with you through your entire life and has formed this unbreakable bond with you not be a soulmate?? That would be so sad! Also, what if you fall in love and it doesn’t last, for whatever reason that may be, (it does not always have to be cheating or something like that, that breaks people up, life is complex) was that connection a soulmate connection and then has to be stripped of that title?? I don’t know if “soulmate” is a title that should only be reserved for connections that last a lifetime. Also, is it pre-destined who your soulmate is? What if I don’t meet them? Why am I so out of control in this conversation? What if someone dies as a baby or young person and could not meet their soulmate? What then happens to the other person? Will they always feel this emptiness that someone is missing in their life or will they not know what they’re missing because, well, they didn’t get to meet their soulmate? Also, does everyone have a soulmate? I don’t know! Obviously it would be very idealistic to say so, but so many people go through cruel things, meet cruel people, is it an issue of circumstances then that they cannot meet/ get to their soulmate? Also, if they are pre-destined, wouldn’t there be a way around the circumstances? I think many people can be your soulmate, I think your craft can be your soulmate.

Now to the part of the soulmates meeting in their next lives: this implies reincarnation. Do I believe we get reincarnated? I don’t know, because I would only like to be reincarnated under very strict circumstances and that cannot be guaranteed?! But if we can, then.. maybe??? What if you were really lucky in your first life, but unlucky in your next (because, yes, we should look at the bright side, even in negative situations, but I would argue there are situations that people are born into that frankly have no positive sides)??? Is your soulmates(s) alone in your next life? Do we get new soulmates each life? I feel like that could be more interesting, but not as romantic. Maybe actually more romantic, since there are so many different types of love, that you have multiple soulmates that present themselves in different forms ?!!!

To answer your question anon: I believe in soulmates, but not in the traditional sense. I don’t know if every one has soulmates, even though that would be nice. If you’re lucky, you meet soulmates in your next life, I don’t think that they necessarily are the ones from your previous one. If so, I think your romantic partner could be your best friend in your life, or the teacher who believes in you and proves that there is potential to more life than the cards you were dealt so far…
