Hiatus

hey folks, I'm taking a step back from writing here for a bit - I haven't felt much twelve muse in a while and don't wanna force it

"well all the more reason to park closer to your destination with how huge everything is" she bit back.

"Seven what? Inches?" He glanced down at her feet, attempting to gauge the size, and frowned. They looked to be at least eight inches long, probably nine or ten. "Seven? You sure? They look more like a nine… Anyway, they'll fit."

She doesn't suspect him to obtain much information from a supply closest, a dark brow quirking up in surprise as she nearly decides to start walking from him - only to have his question catch her off guard. News did spread fast in the area, so perhaps he's already heard about it.

❝ ... No I don't suppose it would. Mind you my assistant was blathering about it today.... I tuned out for most of it but I got the gist, something about a cousin up north, near the causeway ... things falling from the sky onto her rental investment. Really didn't care to hear anymore, it's always something with her and it never amounts to anything substantial. ❞

Niamh trailed off, rolling her eyes,  ❝ Well I've had just about enough overpriced liquor for today .... what do you say we open one back home? I'm sure I have a bottle or six lying around, for emergencies.You can tell me all about your storm. ❞ I won't even interrupt once.

"Wait, wait, rewind a bit. Things falling from the sky?" he queried. Like River, no Niamh, he didn't much care for her colleague's rental investment. Part of the deal of owning land beside one of Earth's most violent oceans was the condition that the sea claims a bit of the land every year.

He was on the verge of pressing into the odd storm some more, but alas, his wife had a point. Being in the city center wasn't much use to them. At home, they could talk in private and had access to equipment not meant for 21st Century use.

"Here? As in Earth or?"

“PERSON, so could you stop that?! GEEZ. You hit me, and then you act like that?” Raising a hand to take the faceplate of the helmet off, so he could look at the other face to face, he was surprised when he finally saw WHO he was talking too. No uniform. A little too old to qualify for test missions, huh?!

With that thought, he no longer felt at ease again. Of what he read about this man, he gained his wealth from selling weapons and mostly likely was armed within that suit. Thankfully it seemed to be out of operation, for the moment.

"Restricted?" That amused him. Restricted wasn't a word he had heard on Earth in a while since his involvement with UNIT. It was refreshing to hear. That means he's poking his nose exactly where he should be.

"Oh, I've already started but got a bit boring, so I'm taking a break," he replied, nonchalantly flicking over the page of a comic while nodding towards the small pile of marked documents with a multicoloured Bic pen resting on top.

"Something to comfort the blow." She managed to look back at him, raising the cup to her lips to take a sip. Maybe that was what this is about, why they ended up sitting opposite each other again. She remembered another time. A wildly different time, and yet there were strange senses of similarities about it. How funny the universe was.

"I found the best thing to do when caught up in a riptide is don't fight it. You'll only exhaust yourself. Just let it carry you until it fades away and then start swimming."

He took a moment, letting the weight of her words settle, before offering a gentle smile. "Well, I found normality to be extremely boring and not reserved for anyone interesting."

The Doctor couldn't help but feel the resonance of her presence, a reminder of the countless companions who had left imprints on his hearts. His fingers tapped rhythmically on the table as he pondered on the best reason for his being here.

her opinion of HIM, however, was improving moment by moment. he was a smartass, but luckily for him she liked that. the fact that he'd gotten the door open didn't hurt, either. “ well, well, look at you with the practical life skills. ” something more to note, another layer of mystery. she was starting to get invested.

raising her manacled wrist in response to his latest quip, she tossed back: “ really can't, actually, ” before rising to her feet, ready to follow him. at least it wasn't boring.

"Although best to get you out and let the actual owner of that body do what they want, hmm?"

There, he poked his head out to completely ensure their route was clear. Satisfied there was no one peering in their direction, he waved for her to follow.

"Not sure about you, but they put a bag over my head before they tossed me in here, so… this way."

The dress style wouldn't be his cup of tea; it didn't look particularly easy to 'chill out' with a guitar in. Then again, he once insisted bowties were cool and thought celery was a fashion statement.

The question from his old self evoked a smile, his thoughts leading back to his wife. Although there was a hint of sadness in the smile, as he knew the highs and lows of a married domestic life were limited, constrained by the remaining years of their promised twenty four. He wondered how River would react to finding out he will become a woman, finally, in the future.
