It is a massive leap to get from "my wife hallucinates a maid who was with her from childhood because she's lonely" to "the entire mountain is dead and she's been in solitary confinement for 6-7 years but she doesn't know this because of a mental block"

He always saw her writing letters to people on the mountain. She confabulated (when the patient doesn't know they are lying) about the mountain ALL THE TIME. Aside from the monkey thing, she mostly talks fondly about it. MXY only knows about the maid, LFB knows about the secondary "alter" master and that is why he went to the mountain himself. He also seems to treat the maid as just a quirk at first.

There was no way MXY could have known! He probably thought she was lonely because he was distant at first and she hates her family. LFB was angry because he's Ye Li's friend, but he really didn't have any justification to be.

Even though the writing for the character is not great, the actor really makes Bai Sheng/Cheng Feng Ze someone you want to keep watching. His chemistry with the female leads are also top notch. I really like Zhai Zi Lu but I thought Jing Chao had better chemistry with Xing Fei in LToT. Tan Song Yun and Zheng Ye Cheng have no chemistry in my eyes and I just want to see Ying Ying with Bai Sheng battling it out.

Someone asked recently about the hat that Ding Yuxi is wearing in Escape to Your Heart. I believe this is the Ming Dynasty damao 大帽 (large hat). Thought some of you might be interested to know more.....

Loosely translated from Baidu:

“The damao is an important category within traditional Chinese headgear. Its open-brimmed form can be traced back as early as the Northern Wei period, when it was originally worn in daily life by commoners. After the Five Dynasties period, it gradually developed into official ceremonial headwear. In the Ming dynasty, the damao evolved into a distinctive system based on earlier forms. Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming, designated it as a sun-shading ceremonial hat for students of the Imperial Academy, granting it symbolic ritual significance.

“A damao unearthed from the tomb of Prince Lu Huang (Zhu Tan) and now preserved in the Shandong Museum provides material evidence of its early bead decorations and the mid-Ming improvement of strap-fastening features. Through cultural exchange, this type of headgear spread to the Korean Peninsula, where over the course of its evolution it developed clear distinctions from the Korean heungnip (black hat).

“In the history of clothing exchange in East Asia, the Ming dynasty damao (large hat) was introduced to the Korean Peninsula through diplomatic contacts. According to the Veritable Records of King Sejong from the early Joseon period, local craftsmen, drawing on the structure of the damao, developed the heungnip (black hat) that incorporated rain-proof functions, though features such as the curvature of the brim and the hanging gauze decoration became localized characteristics.

“Thus, when Xiao Chiye returned, he would take Shen Zechuan in his arms, face-to-face, and sit against the wall so Shen Zechuan could rest his head on Xiao Chiye’s chest or shoulder. Each time Shen Zechuan felt nauseous, Xiao Chiye rubbed a soothing hand over his back.”

He placed a hand on Shen Zechuan’s back and wearily moved his legs to gently rock the man in his arms.

“Lanzhou,” Xiao Chiye coaxed him “Where is Lanzhou?”

Chinese pastries can generally be divided into the exquisite style, the rustic style, and those that fall somewhere in between. The exquisite style is represented by chaguozi茶果子(tea pastries), which originated from the Jin to Tang dynasties and flourished in the Song Dynasty. They come in various shapes of flowers and fruits, and are mostly sweet in flavor. The rustic style is less delicate in appearance, more down-to-earth, and can be either sweet or savory. Chinese pastries can also be classified by northern and southern flavors.
