“The best kind of beautiful,” Pan agreed, a little breathless. What she wouldn’t give to have sen it, “Oh, that reminds me, I should show you the swarm of Doxies that have made their home by the river!” There was much new life in the garden - she certainly hadn’t been shit at Herbiology after all. She smiled at him, softening as she takes him in. “I’m so happy you’re back.” 

“No, no, just me, thank Merlin. I always taste-test on myself first, of course,” she laughs, “I’m sure I’ll improve with some time and effort, but thank you for your faith. I was planning on going ingredient hunting tomorrow, so to let me know if there’s anything you’d fancy.” 

In her excitement, she doesn’t notice the shift in his tone at first. “I know, it’s been such a wonderful journey, and I really feel like I’ve made an impact. I can only imagine what I could change for the better as an editor.” She hesitates then and leans forward to catch his eye, “Hey.” There’s a moment of quiet. “Is something wrong? Is it the cake…?” 

“It would have faulted in your presence,” his tone was soft and he reached out brushing lightly across her cheek, to tuck a strand of loose hair behind her ear. “I’m glad to be back. I will never venture away from your side again.” His eyes were intense as he looked at her. He took a deep breath and lent back into his chair. “Doxies? Really that sounds amazing!” 

A chuckle escaped him as he pictured her biting into the unfortunate cookie. “Well, I hope you cleaned your teeth thoroughly after that.” He nodded, “If I think of anything I will let you know but for now all I need is your presence and the wonderful cups of tea you make.”

She grins at him, then, delighted by the vision of the two of them - exploring new places, discovering new flora and fauna, meeting all sorts of interesting people. It sounds like a dream, but it wouldn’t be the first time they could make them come true. “I’d love nothing better.”

She laughs, sipping her own tea with a smile. “I wouldn’t be so sure, if my track record with potions is anything to go by, but at least I’m making things that are edible these days.” And now she had Xeno and his sweet-tooth as a guinea pig. “Well, when I remember to use chocolate chips instead of pixie droppings, anyway” 

She turns towards him excitedly, “Really? Xeno, that sounds fantastic!” He always had such interesting stories to tell, she was sure he could fill volumes with them. “I can’t tell you how rewarding seeing your writing published can be,” she assured him, “Miss Merrywheather has assured me I could make it to editor at the Prophet with some hard work, but I’m sure I can help out!” 

Xeno takes a sip of his tea, closing his eyes and picturing some of the gorgeous things he witnessed in Bulgaria. “I would love to show you the plants that I witness in Bulgaria. There was this one that was a giant species like a Venus flytrap that could eat birds whole. It was terrifyingly beautiful.”

He smirks, placing his hand on her knee. “Your potions turned out fine in the end with a lot of supervision but I know you when you are determined to be good at something you succeed, plus I will eat anything you make.” Xeno eyes widened as he shock his head, “I really hope nobody tried those cookies.” 

“….’The Site’. Right.”

Arthur crosses the garden to get to the gate, calling over his shoulder to Molly to let her know he’ll be right back. He wipes his hand on his robes before he offers it to Xeno when they meet, shaking his neighbor’s hand warmly.

“Good to know America didn’t make you any less…you.”

“Lead the way, mate. How deep were you digging anyway? And how was the trip? Or are you going to pop up again in eighteen months and tell me then?”

“America was amazing, full of like minded Wizards,” he remarks with a smile.

He led Arthur towards the hole and pointed down at a piece of rusted metal that was protruding up out of the dirt. Crossing his arms he faced Arthur with a smile. 

“The trip was amazing and I have loads of fresh idea’s. Thinking he starting a magazine full of amazing facts and some research from other wizards that I met on my journey. That is why it took so long, as there were so many interesting people and idea’s,” he states excitedly. 

“Bulgaria?” He feels his eyebrows raise. It wasn’t every day that he got something that challenged him such as this. He walks over to the cabinet and puts on a pair of gloves– despite the Healer discourse regarding them, Ted appreciates taking a nod to his Muggle heritage by keeping everything sterile in the easiest way possible. 

He sits on a small wheeled stool and slides himself over to Lovegood, gingerly picking up his leg and inspecting the rash. “Huh– can you tell me a bit more about the plant? And the timeline for your symptoms?”

Xeno watches him slid the gloves on his hand, curious as he had never seen such a practice but he was too concerned for his leg to push about it. “Yes I was researching plants and creatures for a magazine I’m publishing,” he stated rather methodically trying to avoid the fact that he was researching creatures most Wizards deny the existence of. 

He scratched his head, closing his eyes making a small humming noise as he tried to recall where the plant was. “It was about a week ago, I brushed past it and the guide I was with said something but he didn’t speak very good English but I got a sense that it was a warning or something.” He opened his eyes and looked at Ted. “I’ve been struggling to urinate.”

“Next time I’m coming with you!” Pandora swears, smiling brightly at him. Her own certainty hits her moments later and her smile falters slightly. “If you’d like company, of course.” She quickly busies herself with the tea. 

“Pretty good, I’d say,” she replies, as the plate of tea floats over to the coffee table. The two plates with Molly’s cake she brings over herself. “Having neighbours that can bake much better than i can has been wonderful, though Molly’s shared a few recipes so I’ve been trying. Less successfully.”

She sits down on the sofa next to him. “The job at the Prophet’s been great. I’ve learned so much and it’s actually really great, even though I only applied to support my spellwork.”

“Of course, you can come,” he reassures her with a smile. “It would make the trip hundred percent better if you come.” He never really thought of Pan being insecure about his feelings for her and he made a mental note to make sure to be a bit more open to her. 

“I am sure you will manage to conqueror baking just like you excel at anything you put your wonderful mind to,” he mused, taking a sip of the tea. It was the best thing he had tasted in months and he licked the access off his lips, as he poured more sugar into it.

“Healer Tonks, you’re needed in room 4″ The Mediwitch’s voice carries across the hall and is followed by a floating file that Ted plucks out of the air,  nodding.

 “Thanks, Tabitha.” He pops it open and skims it briefly, finishing the last of his licorice as he enters the room with the silver four on top of it. 

“Good morning, Mister-” Ted scans the folder for a name. “Lovegood– My name is Healer Tonks. What brings you to the plants and poisons floor today?” 

Xeno disliked the hospital a lot. It was a weird place, that had an unwelcoming smell. He had to go though as the rash was becoming more painful and appeared to becoming angry with every home remedy that he tried. 

“Good morning,” he scans the healer and felt more at ease compared to earlier with the mediwitches, “while I was travelling in Bulgaria I brushed past a particularly strange plant and well,” he rolled up his trouser leg to reveal a deep purple rash that was emitting a lot of heat. 

“What the fuck?”

Arthur’s words slip out when he sees his long lost neighbor, waving at him over the fence.

“Daddy swore!”

“Shh…Bill…” He looks at his oldest, eyebrows raised.

“I’ve got two knuts for you if you keep this between us.”

Bill makes a motion with his left hand to say “give it here” and Arthur can’t help the chuckle that escapes him.

“Go find your brothers.” Money pocketed, Bill shrugs and runs off. Arthur grins at Xeno.

“Hi. So, you’re back. Lovely. What’d you say about what now?”

Xeno chuckles at the exchange he hears. 

“Yes, I am back,” he states, with a smile. 

He felt like people were surprised to see him, but he also felt the presence of negative energy. 

“I dug a hole in our garden to plant some seeds that I got on my travels and I came across something metal, so I dug further and I think I unearthed something muggle.” Xeno rambles with excitement.  “I thought it would be your area of expertise, if you care to follow me to the site.” 

So many responses passed through her mind. How close were you to that dragon? Couldn’t you have borrowed an owl? Or floo’d? Did you eat enough, you’re so forgetful about meals. Your hair is so long now. Why didn’t you tell me where you were going? But none of it mattered. He was here- and for the first time in a long while, Pandora felt perfectly at peace and extraordinarily happy.

She reared up and pulled him into a kiss, allowing herself to just forget about anything and everything else in the world and just enjoy the feeling of his lips pressed against hers. When she pulled back, she smiled brightly. “I bet you have so many stories to tell,” she said, “And that you’re probably dying to sit down. Come, let’s go inside, let me make you some tea.” 

Xeno felt euphoric as he felt her lips against his. It was everything that he had been dreaming off on his year travelling, it was a truly amazing welcome. “Yes, yes I have so many stories to share. You would have adored South America especially Peru with the bears,” he rambled on as he followed her inside. 

“Bulgaria!” Pan exclaimed, pulling back slightly from the hug to be able look up at him. Merlin, she’d almost forgotten how tall he was. “Last I heard you were in South-America.” She sighed, leaning pressing her forehead up to meet his and closed her eyes. For a moment, she simply let herself enjoy the feeling of their closeness. “I’ve missed you.”

“Poor thing,” she mumbled, in response to his explanation. A frown pulled her face into thought. “I’ve been worried. Scared,” she said, looking down, “I feared you were forgetting all about me.” 

“I decided on a change of scenery, before I could tell you the owl was roasted,” he sighed, placing his hand on the small of her back pressing her closer towards him. “I missed you as well,” he murmured, nuzzling her ear with his nose.

She was in the middle of another baking attempt when she heard the knock on the door. Her entire body froze before she consciously recognized it and when she did she nearly dropped her bowl of flour. Could it be? 

Pan dropped the bowl on the counter unceremoniously and rushed to the door. She hesitated for only a second, but then opened it carefully, peeking out. Surely not?

“Xeno?” she whispered, and then, “Xeno!” All the worries from the last three months left her mind as she threw herself into his arms. “You’re here! Where have you been?” 

All of his anxieties left his body as he felt her pressed into his chest. She was exactly the same, not one thing had changed about his gorgeous Pan. He placed his hand under her chin and tilted her head up, so he could gaze into her eyes.
