Part I: Gathering materials

What you need:

FL Studio installer (LEGALLY obtained of course *wink wink)

Microsoft Edge WebView 2 (Pick the Offline installer)

Optional:

.NET Framework 4.8

Visual C++ Redistributables 2017-2022 (x86) (x64)

Windows fonts

(Anything listed under optional will still be needed and installed, but winetricks offers ways to install it from there. I do recommend gathering the needed installers though, as it makes the actual installing part WAY easier. I will provide links where possible but also talk about what to do if you want to stick with Winetricks as much as possible)

Part II: Building your Wine Prefix

Open Winetricks and create a new x64 wine prefix

Run an arbitrary exe file to install the C++ Redists. (Alternatively, install the following Windows DLLs with Winetricks: vcrun2019, vcrun2022. Doing so, will download the packages and install them anyways.)

Install the .NET Framework (or install dotnet48 with Winetricks).

If you have a working Windows PC/partition/VM, you can copy its Fonts from:

C:\Windows\Fonts to ~/.local/share/fonts

If this folder doesn't exist, create it. (I keep them inside a subfolder called "WinFonts") After that, run fc-cache and restart Winetricks.

The advantage of doing it this way is that whenever another prefix needs Windows fonts in the future, you already have them installed whereas installing the allfonts package with Winetricks, you need to install this whenever the prefix asks for it. If you dual boot or just happen to have Windows somewhere, you can just install the fonts on your PC once and be done forever.

Alternatively, in Winetricks you can install allfonts. It just takes some time, because it grabs the fonts from old office installers. Give it some time and grab a sippy dink while u wait :3

Open winecfg and set your Windows version to Windows 10 or 11. This is needed for Edge Webview to work.

Lastly install WebView. (I don't know if it's just peak Microslop programming or if installation silently failed but I never got a notice about WebView being successfully installed)

Part III: Installing and configuring FL Studio

Now grab your FL Studio installer and install it!

If your installation requires additional steps, like copying patched files (as you have when you sail the seas) do the additional steps before starting FL Studio for the first time. Also you can import .reg files by opening Wine's implementation of regedit

Now start Lutris and add FL Studio as a locally installed game.

As the Starter, select Wine,

For the Wine version, pick System,

The executable is FL64.exe from your install directory inside your Prefix,

The prefix directory is ~/.local/share/wineprefixes/[NAME OF YOUR PREFIX]

Toggle on using Winetricks of the system

In System settings, disable the Lutris runtime (and also maybe gamemode, for some reason FL wouldn't start when it was activated)

When you start FL Studio for the first time, you may get the error that the MIDI device is already in use. I don't have any MIDI devices plugged in, so I just ignored it. Some report you can install WineASIO to solve that issue. I haven't tried it. I'll just link it here, just in case: https://github.com/wineasio/wineasio/

If you want to install a DAW, you can do it with Winetricks inside the prefix, no need for stuff like yabridge, since it's directly "running on Windows"

If FL Studio or some VSTs have performance issues, try installing vkd3d and dxvk with Winetricks. Some report that this may help with Synths like Serum.
