         in some unexpected ways , banks and aria just  work  . as a friend , an employee , and a boyfriend , banks had known what it feels like to  fall short  for other people even when you feel like you’re trying your best and giving them your all . luckily banks is good at shrugging his shoulders and letting the rest roll off . it is why his  now - serious  face is actually a  faux - serious  face . ‘  wait - wait - wait - hold - up ,  ’  the words come out a mile a minute like they’re driving as fast as they can to get to aria . when they get her attention , his words ought to be accompanied by a smirk of some sort , but his expression remains the same with the purpose of  being a little shit  instead . ‘  you care about me or something ? — or are you just trying to get me inside so you can take advantage of me ?  ’

           on certain days the late shift means drunk centralians stumbling up and down the block , but on other days , it means the dead of night . the dead of night calls for a bit of a pseudo knight - in - shining - armor , though briar was more likely to call samson a doofus - in - rusted - armor if anything . love is weird , like the way it transfers to those who love your person too . briar could have chosen to write samson off entirely , hell maybe she almost did , but samson is a determined son of a bitch . he would slick his hair back and show up like this even if briar didn’t want him to . luckily , they were way past casualties at this point . samson considers briar one of his best friends . family , really . 

                once inside , briar doesn’t even look up , so samson stays watching . it isn’t until she runs into the corner of one of the tables that samson announces himself with a clap of his hands , trying to stifle a laugh . he clears his throat and moves away from his place in the doorway . ‘  who did you piss off to get the closing shift again , marin ?  ’ samson asks like he doesn’t know , like he isn’t about to make sure she gets home safely to avoid any unnecessary marin family trauma . ‘  or is this your way of avoiding the morning shifts so you can go out all night ?  ’ he asks , taking one of the chairs off the tables and sitting down while he waits for her to finish other necessary closing tasks .

of course briar saw him there. he wasn’t hard to spot, and neither hard to notice. there was nobody in town that looked like him, or even had the same style, and for some reason, her attention had always been drawn to him in one way or another. but of course she made an effort to ignore him until the very last client had left and samson had come in that she looked up from her heavy heavy work to clean the espresso machine. “how could i possibly piss anybody off?” she scoffed. it was an obvious lie. if anything, briar marin was great at pushing people’s buttons. it was her favorite pastime and job.

Mick had big dreams, and those big dreams were more often than not funded by his father.  What this meant, at the end of the day, was that he was just another wanna be guitar player with a nice voice, a cute face, and he knew it.  While his band had just wrapped up the set, he bounded to the bar, quickly sliding into the first available spot he saw, flashing a quick grin at whoever had been sitting next to it.

“Hey - hope you don’t mind, I’m parched.”  Quickly ordering a beer, he swiveled back to his new companion.  “So what did you think?”

                “Oh. Uhm… yeah, no”.

Dae-Hyun Noah discreetly spit back the black coffee into the mug. In the best scenario it was toilet water and in the worst… instant coffee ( can you tell his priorities? ). He had just arrived that same morning and he thought about trying the local cuisine, but maybe entering the first diner next to the street was not the very best idea.

His attention was caught by someone nearby, though and with the brightest and most embarrassed smile he could give, the bachelor spoke.

“Is there something good to drink aside of the coffee?”

the diner was not the most crowded place at the time he left the gym, so it has almost become a habit to pass by to get a good breakfast before getting ready for work. he had never been a good cook. black coffee and sunny side up eggs with a double side of bacon- he didn’t even need to order. by that point almost every person in the diner knew his order. he usually sat by the bar- he felt bad to use a full table or a booth if it was just him, and usually nobody ever came around, but that morning seemed different. eddie felt almost embarrassed about the way his hair was all messed up by sweat and he could only hope his smell was not too bad to scare the other (or anyone) away. 

Reina was here because she wanted to be, a strange choice, all things considered. Perhaps that was also why she could easily find herself posted up in front of the tattoo shop, a line of crystals decorating the side of the table she was perched behind, shuffling tarot cards as if they were somehow precious. She’d always been kind of her cards, claiming they would in turn, be kind to her. Perhaps that is why she was silent for a moment before she pulled for the person in front of her, three, laid flat out. It was hard to keep her face straight when realization of what exactly was in the reading, looking up at them to see if she could find the answer she wanted written in their face before speaking.

“Put your hand over a card.” She instructs, a forced smile finding beautiful features, hopefully pretty enough to ignore the discomfort she was trying to swallow currently. “Tell me what you feel, you’ll know when it’s the right one.” She reassured them, as if order could change anything about the message that was so clearly there, for those who knew where, and how to look. @liminalstart​

salem usually tries to fill her time these days; between working two jobs and finding means to distract herself, it feels as though she doesn’t sit down often. but when it comes to seeing her sister, the redhead will set aside any time necessary just so they can play catch-up. sometimes it still feels odd to be back in centralia, like she hadn’t spent most of her life wandering the streets with briar by her side while their parents tried desperately to reel them back in. the elder twin made salem feel more confident in herself, but she very much still had her moments, and those seemed to be popping up more and more these days.

“i got your favorite.” the words are delivered quietly, hand reaching out to offer up a fresh cup of coffee to her sister. “a peace offering, i guess. i’m not really sure what for, but i’m sure i owe it to you anyway.”

it was a weird thing to be out drinking coffee instead of serving it, but it wasn’t like briar would complain as long as the place was nice, the music was good- but not too loud, and the coffee didn’t taste like sewer water. judging by the smell of the place her sister chose, she had not made a mistake. briar was pleased, smoking a cigarette while she waited for salem to show up. she wasn’t even upset about having to wait- she had been early after all. 

BRIAR. Thorny bush of wild roses. Every rose has its thorn, and nothing could be more accurate with this name.

PAST. (Sophia Lillis). Wild, adventurous, confident. Strong and defensive- often called one of the boys. This was the time where Briar experimented more with her image. Hair, fashion and makeup were temporary things. She was never good in school, but excelled at extracurriculars- she was an athlete, both running track and as a part of the cheer team. People loves me, and I love being loved. 

PRESENT. (Ellie Bamber). Briar found power in femininity. It wasn’t hard to have people wrapped around her little finger. She still has the same traits as before, but she discovered insecurities, based on comparing herself to her twin sister, whom she always saw as the beacon of her life. Am I smart enough? Am I good enough? Am I worth the time? Am I just a pretty face with nothing to offer?

FUTURE. (Jessica Chastain). Activism became a very important thing for Briar. She was tired of being used, abused and dropped for her pretty face and body- she discovered that being book smart didn’t mean a thing, when passion drove every single step of her life. She is as headstrong as the younger version of her used to be, and to this day, it is the flag she carries and waves with pride. Her goal is to help other women feel empowered, safe and capable to go after their dreams. Is it maybe the time to start thinking about a family?
