May I get some soft X6-88? Or maybe some brief bonding moments he has with other companions as he gets accepted into the group?
You absolutely may! I will admit that I don't think I've ever fully maxed out X6-88'S affinity. So, I'm not super great with his character overall, but we'll see how it goes!
X6-88 spent a hell of a lot of time trying to figure out his place amongst the Sole Survivor and their other companions. It tooks months before any of the companions even spoke more than a few passing words to him. He was standoffish and blunt, admittedly. He knew that much. Not a lot of people appreciated that kind of brutual honesty.
One of his first interactions with the companions was with Cait about her drinking, and needless to say they haven't been on entirely good terms since then. In fact, though he hadn't been told directly to his face as of yet by anyone except Cait, he knew some of the companions even hated him. Part of him didn't mind. He was still working through with himself as to why that was the case.
The ones that had been kindest to him were Danse, Nick, Deacon, and surprisingly, MacCready. He felt this weird sort of kinship with Danse and Nick, the three of them being synths and whatnot. Deacon had dedicated his whole life to helping synths, so it only made sense that he wanted to help out X6. MacCready was the outlier though. X6 still hadn't pinned down why the mercenary frequently went out of his way to help him.
One particular instance always sat with him. When he was kept awake at night by listening to the sounds of the wasteland, he'd play the memory over and over, trying to re-analyze every aspect of it. It was a couple months into X6 joining them and he was sitting at Sanctuary reading a book on pre-war flora that he'd found while out with the Sole Survivor. MacCready made some off-handed joke about plants that actually made X6 chuckle a little bit. It was just so... Natural, gentle, and kind. It was nice for him. He hadn't remembered laughing at anything else before that. He doubted it had the same significance for MacCready, but still.
Even though most of the companions ignored or hated him, it was Sole that really, truly tried to make him feel safe and welcomed. They went out of their way to try and tell the other companions to be nice to X6. They made sure he was included in scouting and resource missions. Sole thought that they were out of ear-shot of X6-88, but they definitely weren't. X6 always heard everything.
Some nights when Sole was drinking alone, X6 would join and do his best to comfort them when they broke down about Father. It was always from afar though, with words. Never physical contact. He wasn't great at knowing when the right moment was. Though, if anyone was capable of understanding the trauma the Institute is capable of inflicting, it was definitely X6.
However, Sole finally convinced X6 to join in them in drinking one night and being inexperienced, X6 ended up drunk way too fast. X6 got scared, really scared. He didn't feel in control for the first time in his life.
X6 watched Sole's face fill with regret as he felt his own body fill with panic. His breathing became more ragged and uneven. His hands began to shake more violently than he had ever experienced before.
It was then that Sole pulled X6 into a hug, hands resting on his lower back, creating a small amount of pressure between them. His first instinct was to pull away and punch Sole square in the face, but Sole just said one sentence that made that feeling dissipate.
"I promise that you're going to be okay."
And you know what, maybe they were right.
