"I don’t know how long I’ll be here," they gave an honest, but useless answer.  "A few months, most likely.  A year or two at most."  They must have sounded terribly scatterbrained like this—not to say that they weren’t a bit, but still.  Asking such questions—the boy clearly had an intent with it, perhaps connected to his reason for being interested in them, and what made them interested in him.  "Why do you ask?"  Perhaps he’d give the answer they wanted from just that, but perhaps not.

Anyone who ran into them was a person of interest—anyone who took note of them, even more so.  It seemed that the nature of their existence was to fall straight into the interesting part of a story—and best as they could tell, there was little purpose to this except to observe it.  At least it meant they met a lot of fascinating people—including cold ones… not that that meant they would relax easily when presented with such mannerisms.

✩ ❄ ; " A traveler, huh? How long are you in Mekaku City for? " Might as well ask such kinds of menial questions, even if the tedium of the ho hum talk was boring as hell and making Houshoku want to scream.
