Shintaro Midorima:
Your daughter’s cries echoed throughout the room causing your eyes fluttered open almost immediately. With a quiet sigh, you pushed the blanket aside, already accustomed to the routine. You’d barely managed to swing your legs over the side of the bed before a familiar voice stopped you.
“Where are you going?”
You looked over your shoulder to see Midorima had already opened his eyes.
His glasses rested on the nightstand beside him, so you were able to properly see the tiredness in his eyes yet he somehow looked just as composed as he did every morning before leaving for the hospital.
"The baby’s crying Shintaro. Go back to sleep.” You whispered to him. He reached for his glasses before placing them on.
“I am aware.” He responded.
“You have work in the morning.”
“So I do.” He said as he sat up.
“And you’ve barely slept.”
“I am also aware of that.”
You smiled faintly.
“Shintaro."
Before you could continue, he was already standing. He straightened the wrinkles from his sleep shirt before making his way toward the nursery.
“Remain here.”
You watched him disappear through the doorway. With a smile, you rolled your eyes. You didn't listen to his previous words and quietly following after him anyway. You chose to lean against the frame and look at how he attempted to console his daughter.
She was crying so loudly you swore she could've woken up the entire city.
Midorima carefully lifted her from the crib, supporting her head with careful hands.
“There now.”
His voice remained soft as ever.
“You were fed forty three minutes ago.”
He glanced toward the changing table.
“Your diaper was changed immediately afterward.”
A brief pause.
“There is no discernible reason for your distress.”
The crying only intensified.
Hus brows furrowed in confusion as he tried to figure out what the problem was.
He adjusted the blanket yet that didn't do anything. He checked that she wasn’t too warm and she seemed to be of the normal temperature. He gently bounced her in his arms, pacing the length of the nursery
Yet nothing seemed to have been wrong.
“Your heart rate appears normal.”
He said through the crying of his daughter
“No signs of discomfort...No fever.”
For the first time in weeks Dr. Midorima Shintaro found himself facing a problem he could not diagnose.
He looked down at the tiny infant bundled in his arms.
“You are quite the difficult patient.”
A small laugh escaped your lips.
His head turned toward the doorway.
“I thought I instructed you to remain in bed.”
“I wanted to see how my favorite doctor was doing.”
“I have encountered…a complication.”
You raised an eyebrow.
“Really now?"
He looked back down at your daughter, who seemed intent on proving every one of his observations incorrect.
“You should try.”
You stepped forward, unable to hide your smile.
“So we’re requesting a consultation?”
“I believe that would be…prudent.”
The moment you gathered your daughter into your arms, the crying began to soften.
Within seconds, the frantic sobs dissolved into quiet hiccups. Then finally the one thing necessary for a peaceful sleep was received. Silence. She nestled comfortably against your chest, letting out one tiny yawn before closing her eyes as though nothing had happened.
The room fell completely still.
You looked over at your husband.
“Looks like she just wanted her mother.”
Midorima remained silent.
His gaze shifted from your daughter to you
then back to your daughter once more.
"Remarkable.”
You couldn’t help but laugh.
“That’s all you’ve got?” You said as you nudged him, gently placing her back in her crib.
“I accounted for every physiological variable.” He adjusted his glasses.
“Yet I failed to consider the simplest possibility.”
“And what’s that?” He looked at you with a soft smile.
“That her preferred remedy was you.”
Midorima reached out, gently brushing a finger against your daughter’s tiny hand.
She instinctively wrapped her fingers around his.
His expression softened.
“Very well.”
He gave a small nod, as though accepting the outcome of an experiment.
“I shall revise my findings.”
The next evening, when the cries began once again, Midorima didn’t bother checking the thermometer first.
Instead, he calmly looked toward you.
“Our patient appears to be requesting her mother.”

Daiki Aomine:
The cries of your son echoed through the apartment, effectively destroying the peaceful silence of two o'clock in the morning. You let out a groan, burying your face deeper into the pillow.
Besides you, Aomine didn’t even move. The guy was asleep like a log .
“Daiki.."
Nothing.
You nudged him with your foot.
“Daiki!" You exclaimed which earned
a sleepy grunt from him as a response.
You narrowed your eyes before giving him a considerably harder kick.
“Ow! The hell was that for?!” He said leaning up using his hands to support him.
“The baby’s crying.”
Aomine glanced toward the nursery before immediately flopping back onto the mattress.
“He’ll be aight.”
You stared at him in disbelief.
“Daiki get your ass to our baby."
He groaned as he cracked one eye open.
“You carried him for nine months. I think you got this one.”
A dangerous smile spread across your face.
“Oh really?"
You sat up, stretching your leg just enough for him to notice.
“I will literally kick you hard enough to let you experience a fraction of the pain I went through bringing him into this world.”
Aomine blinked.
Then a laugh escaped him.
"Alright alright you win."
He rubbed the back of his neck, grinning.
“Feisty girl.”
Another cry echoed from the nursery.
“Aight, aight. I’m comin’.”
Still half asleep, he shuffled down the hallway, lazily scratching at the back of his head.
The moment he pushed open the nursery door, his son was still crying, tiny fists in the air as tears streamed down his cheeks.
“Yo.”
Aomine carefully scooped him into his arms.
“Cmon little man.”
Almost immediately the crying stopped.
Your son’s watery eyes blinked up at his father before a tiny hand reached up and latched onto the front of Aomine’s shirt.
“Well damn.”
A tiny yawn escaped the baby.
Then came a quiet giggle.
“You serious?” Aomine chuckled under his breath. “Your mom’s been threatenin my life for the past five minutes and all you wanted was me?”
His son answered by grabbing a fistful of his shirt and refusing to let go.
“Guess we’re cool like that, huh?”
Aomine couldn’t help but smile.
“You got good taste."
He gently bounced him against his shoulder, lazily swaying from side to side.
“Lemme tell you somethin little man.”
His voice dropped into an easy murmur.
“Your mom? She’s scary.”
A tiny giggle.
“But she’s also the toughest person you’ll ever meet.”
He smiled to himself.
“So make sure you listen to her.”
Another giggle escaped your son.
“Cause I definitely should.”
After a bit, your son finally couldn't resist sleep anymore and his tiny breaths eventually evened out against Aomine's shoulder.
"Knew you'd wear yourself out with all that yellin."
He stood there for another minute, gently patting the little boy’s back until he was certain he was asleep. Carefully, he laid him back into the crib, tucking the blanket around his tiny body.
“Sleep tight little man.”
The apartment had fallen silent once more.
When he pushed open the bedroom door, he found you curled beneath the blankets, though the way your eyes immediately met his told him you hadn’t waken up again.
“He’s out?”
“Yeah.” He said as he climbed back into bed, the mattress dipping beneath him.
A lazy smile spread across your face as you scooted a little closer, instinctively curling into his side. Without a second thought, Aomine wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you against his chest.
The room settled into a comfortable silence.
“Thanks,” you murmured.
“Hm?”
“For getting him.”
He shrugged.
“Ain’t nothin"
After a moment, Aomine let out a quiet chuckle.
“Yknow.”
“What?”
“He reminds me of you.”
You tilted your head just enough to look at him.
“How?”
A smug grin slowly tugged at the corner of his lips.
“’Cause neither of you can resist me.”
You stared at him for exactly three seconds before bursting into laughter.
“You’re literally so stupid.”
“What?” he laughed. “I’m serious.”
“You are so full of yourself.”
“Nah.” He tightened his arm around you just a little. “Think about it.”
“Our son stops cryin the second I pick him up.”
He looked down at you with that familiar teasing smirk.
“And you? You keep crawling back into my arms.”
You rolled your eyes, though the smile on your face betrayed you.
“Maybe I should’ve let him keep crying.”
“There she is.” He chuckled, pressing a lazy kiss against your forehead. “There’s my feisty girl.”
You huffed, lightly smacking his chest.
“Go to sleep, Daiki.”

Ryouta Kise:
For the first time in nearly two weeks…the apartment was quiet. Just the peaceful sound of rain tapping softly against the bedroom window. Kise let out a sigh of content as he tightened his arms around you as you slept peacefully against his chest.
“This is nice,” he mumbled sleepily.
You hummed in agreement, still half asleep.
“I think she’s finally sleeping through the ni-"
As though she hated her fathers optimism
A loud wail erupted from the nursery.
The two of you froze.
Kise slowly closed his eyes.
“I shouldn’t have finished that sentence.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as you began sitting up, only for Kise to gently guide you back down onto the pillow.
“Mm mm.”
“Ryouta…”
“I got it.”
“You sure?”
He smiled, brushing a few strands of hair behind your ear.
“Of course I am.”
You frowned.
“You’ve barely slept either.”
“I know.” He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against your forehead. “But you’ve been taking care of her all day.”
His smile softened.
“You deserve to rest.”
You looked at him for a moment before finally relaxing back beneath the blankets.
“You’re too good to me.”
“I know.” He said as he gave you a smug smile causing you to roll your eyes.
He laughed quietly before climbing out of bed, stretching his arms above his head.
“Don’t worry.” He flashed you one of those pretty smiles that had made half the world fall in love with him. “Your amazing husband has everything under control.”
You smiled to yourself as he disappeared into the hallway.
“Good luck.”
The nursery door creaked open.
“Heyyy, princess,” Kise whispered, carefully lifting his daughter into his arms. “Daddy’s here.”
Almost instantly, her cries began to settle.
“There we go…” he cooed, gently rocking her. “See? You just wanted your favori-"
He stopped.
His smile faltered.
“Huh.”
His nose twitched. He sniffed once. Then again.
“No way..."
He slowly looked down at his daughter, who blinked up at him with the most innocent expression imaginable.
“Princess…” Another sniff.
"Come on..."
His daughter answered him with nothing more than a gummy smile, the kind that had become Kise’s greatest weakness over the past few months.
He smiled back instinctively.
“Ugh don't look at me like that. Especially after you pooped yourself."
He sighed and smiled at his baby.
“So this is what fatherhood feels like…”
Only minutes ago he’d proudly insisted that you stay in bed, assuring you that he had everything under control.
Now, he was beginning to question every life decision that had led him to this exact moment.
His first instinct was to wake you.
Surely you had handled situations like this far better than he ever could.
The thought barely lasted a second.
He shook his head to himself.
No.
You’d spent the entire day tending to your daughter, barely finding a moment to sit down, let alone rest. The least he could do was keep the promise he’d made only moments earlier.
Besides how difficult could changing one diaper really be?
That confidence vanished the moment he laid her on the changing table.
Kise had watched you do this dozens of times before. It had always looked effortless and easy in your hands but it felt entirely different when he was the one responsible.
He found himself double checking everything, terrified he’d somehow make the diaper worse instead of better. Kise was good at almost everything, yet this challenged him. Because it wasn't as if it were some ball in his hands. Rather it was his precious daughter.
His daughter, meanwhile, seemed thoroughly entertained.
She watched him with wide, curious eyes, occasionally rewarding his concentration with tiny giggles that somehow made the entire ordeal both easier and infinitely more humiliating.
By the time he’d finally managed to clean her up and fasten a fresh diaper around her waist, a triumphant smile spread across his face.
He’d actually done it.
Maybe fatherhood wasn’t as intimidating as he’d imagined.
Carefully lifting her back into his arms, he let out a relieved breath. Thankful it was all over
A familiar warmth of her diaper was felt on his forearm making his smile slowly disappear. He looked down. Then at his daughter then back at back at her diaper which was heavier.
For several long seconds, neither of them moved.
His daughter merely blinked up at him before breaking into another delighted little giggle.
Kise closed his eyes.
“You’re lucky. You are so lucky you have your mommy's pretty face."

Taiga Kagami:
The soft cries coming from the baby monitor made Kagami awake from his sleep.
He blinked at the ceiling before instinctively turning toward your side of the bed.
Right at the other end you were sound asleep. One arm tucked beneath your pillow, and your breathing was slow and peaceful for what was probably the first time all week. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Finally gettin some shut eye."
Carefully, he slipped out from beneath the blankets, making sure not to wake you before quietly padding down the hallway toward the nursery.
The moment he stepped inside, his daughter’s watery eyes landed on him.
She immediately stretched her tiny arms toward the side of the crib, still sniffling between cries.
“Hey kiddo…”
Kagami rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he knelt beside the crib.
“What happened?”
She didn’t answer, of course.
Instead, she continued staring over the edge of the crib, her little lip quivering.
Following her gaze, Kagami looked down.
Her well loved pink bunny laid on the floor just beyond her reach.
“You cryin over your bunny?"
He let out a quiet chuckle.
“Alright alright."
Reaching down, he picked up the stuffed bunny. One of its ears had long since begun to flop from how often it’d been carried around the apartment.
The second it appeared in front of her, your daughter’s face lit up.
She eagerly grabbed it with both hands, hugging it tightly against her tiny chest.
The crying stopped.
“Scarin your old man over a bunny."
Kagami smiled to himself, expecting she’d settle back into bed now that she’d been reunited with her favorite toy.
Instead she looked up at him. Her hero.
Then reached both little arms toward him.
“Huh?”
A tiny, impatient whine answered him.
He laughed under his breath.
"Alright I gotcha."
Scooping her into his arms, he rested her comfortably against his shoulder as she happily cuddled both him and the pink bunny. Kagami looked over toward the bookshelf in the corner of the nursery.
“One story okay?”
His daughter blinked up at him.
“Just one. And you better not judge my reading."
Settling himself into the oversized beanbag beside the bookshelf, he grabbed the nearest picture book and opened it across his lap. “I ain’t too good at all the funny voices.”
Even so he tried.
The wolf ended up sounding exactly like the grandma. The princess somehow had the same voice as the dragon.
And halfway through the story, Kagami couldn’t even remember which character was speaking anymore.
“Man…”
He laughed quietly to himself.
“I’m really terrible at this.”
No one complained.
Your daughter had long since fallen asleep, curled comfortably against his chest with Bunny squeezed tightly between the two of them.
Kagami looked down at her sleeping face.
“Guess you didn’t mind.”
He leaned back into the beanbag, intending to close the book before putting her back into bed.
Instead…
His own eyes slowly drifted shut.
You then sometime later to an unfamiliar silence. Reaching across the bed, you frowned when you found Kagami’s side empty. Quietly making your way toward the nursery, you pushed the door open just enough to peek inside. The sight before you made your heart melt. The book rested open across Kagami’s lap.
His head had fallen back against the beanbag, mouth slightly open, completely asleep. Your daughter was tucked securely against his chest, one tiny hand gripping the front of his T-shirt while the other refused to let go of her beloved pink bunny.
Even asleep One of Kagami’s arms remained wrapped securely around her, holding her close without a second thought.
You smiled to yourself.
“Awee my two babies.”
Neither of them heard you.
They were both far too comfortable to wake.

Tetsuya Kuroko:
The nursery had finally fallen silent.
Kuroko stood beside the crib for another minute, watching his son’s tiny chest rise and fall beneath the blanket. Satisfied he was asleep, he carefully tucked the blanket a little higher before quietly making his way toward the door.
“Goodnight.”
He reached the hallway.
A soft whimper broke the silence.
Gradually it began getting louder and louder.
Kuroko paused confused as to what could be the problem. He turned around and stepped back into the nursery.
Almost immediately, the crying stopped.
His son blinked up at him, eyes still glossy with tears, before letting out a tiny sigh as though nothing had happened.
Kuroko tilted his head slightly.
“I see.”
He walked back over to the crib, gently brushing a hand over the little boy’s hair.
“You were awake.”
His son smiled.
After another few minutes, Kuroko tried again. He waited until the little boy’s eyes had drifted shut before quietly walking toward the doorway. Not even two steps toward you and Kurokos shared bedroom and the crying returned.
He stopped in his tracks. But this time, instead of walking back immediately, he remained where he was.
Carefully, he leaned just enough to peek around the doorframe.
His son had pushed himself onto his back, tiny eyes fixed entirely on the entrance to the nursery.
Watching and waiting.
The moment Kuroko stepped back into view
the crying ceased.
His son’s tiny shoulders relaxed almost instantly.
“I see the problem now.”
A faint smile appeared on Kuroko’s face.
He walked back over, resting his hands lightly against the crib rail.
“You wanted to make sure I hadn’t left.”
A tiny hand reached toward him.
Without thinking, Kuroko offered a finger.
His son wrapped both hands around it immediately.
The grip was surprisingly firm for someone so small.
“You have quite a strong hold.”
Kuroko smiled. For someone who was always invisible to everyone else. And in a world where people would never notice if he arrived or if he left. His son did. And a part of that made Kurokos heart flutter with happiness. Some time later, you quietly pushed the nursery door open.
“Tetsuya?”
He looked over his shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly. “Did we wake you?”
You shook your head before walking over beside him.
“I heard him crying.”
You looked into the crib and saw that the little boy was no longer crying.
Instead, he was happily clutching one of Kuroko’s fingers as though letting go simply wasn’t an option.
“How'd you get him to go back to sleep so quick?"
Kuroko glanced back at his son.
"I believe..."
He paused for a brief moment.
“he dislikes it when I leave the room.”
You smiled.
“Really?”
As if determined to prove his father’s theory, the little boy immediately began fussing the moment Kuroko gently slipped his finger away.
Before the first tear could even fall, Kuroko placed his hand back inside the crib.
Instant silence.
The room grew still once again.
You laughed quietly into your sleeve.
“I think someone has a favorite.”
Kuroko looked down at the tiny hand wrapped around his finger.
His expression softened ever so slightly.
“I think we should consider placing the crib into our bedroom."

Atsushi Murasakibara:
Sometime in the middle of the night, Murasakibara stirred. Not because of the crying. He was a very heavy sleeper so he couldn't really hear anything 9 times out of 10 when he's asleep. He stirred something small had begun persistently poking his cheek. As if it were trying to wake him.
His eyes slowly open to find his son standing beside the bed, tiny tears streaming down his face.
Murasakibara blinked once
“Hm?”
The little boy answered by rubbing his eyes before patting his own stomach with both hands.
Murasakibara stared at him for a few quiet seconds.
“Hungry?”
A tiny nod.
Another tear rolled down his son’s cheek.
“Mm.”
Without another word, Murasakibara pushed himself out of bed, scooping the little boy into one arm.
Your side of the bed remained undisturbed.
He glanced over for only a moment.
You had spent most of the day chasing after your energetic toddler, and the exhaustion was still written across your sleeping face.
“Let Mommy sleep.”
The words came little more than a sleepy murmur.
His son simply rested his head against Murasakibara's shoulder, still clutching the front of his father’s shirt.
The apartment remained quiet as they wandered into the kitchen together.
Moonlight spilled through the windows, illuminating just enough of the room for Murasakibara to move around without turning on the lights.
He knew exactly where everything was.
Opening the refrigerator, he stood there for a moment, thoughtfully examining its contents.
His son watched with equal concentration.
One small finger eventually reached past Murasakibara's shoulder, pointing insistently toward the fruit drawer.
“Good choice.”
Murasakbiara smiled faintly.
It wasn’t long before the two of them were seated on the kitchen floor, sharing a bowl of sliced strawberries and bananas.
Neither spoke much.
There wasn’t any need to.
The only sounds filling the room were tiny content hums from the little boy and the quiet clink of a spoon against the bowl every now and then.
Watching his son happily eat, Murasakbara couldn’t help but notice the resemblance.
The same sleepy expression.
The same oversized appetite.
Even the way his cheeks puffed out with every bite reminded him painfully of himself.
"You’re definitely my kid.”
His son looked up, grinning through a mouthful of strawberries before offering his father the last slice of banana.
Murasakibara accepted it without hesitation.
“You're definitely your mother's kid too..Cuz I'd never share."

Seijuro Akashi:
The faint sound of the quiet sobbing made you and Akashi wake up simultaneously.
You blinked against the darkness, immediately turning toward the baby monitor on the nightstand.
“Did you hear that?”
Before you could even throw the blankets aside, Akashi was already sitting up turning on the nightlights.
“I did.”
You reached for your robe, but he gently rested a hand over yours.
“I’ll tend to her.”
“Are you sure?”
He nodded once.
“Rest for a moment my love.”
You tried to rest knowing Akashi had everything other control. But your body wouldn't allow you to. You simply just had to know why your baby was sad. By the time you entered the nursery a few minutes later, you found your daughter buried against Akashi’s shoulder, her tiny fingers clutching the fabric of his pajama shirt.
He looked up when you entered.
“I believe she had a nightmare.”
Your heart immediately softened.
“Oh, sweetheart…”
The little girl looked over at you with tear filled eyes before reaching out with her free hand. Without hesitation, you took it.
The moment both of you were beside her, the tension in her shoulders began to ease.
Akashi noticed it immediately.
“I see.” You looked at him.
“What?”
He remained silent for a brief moment before speaking.
“I don’t believe she wishes to sleep alone tonight.”
You smiled.
“I don’t think so either.”
Carefully, he carried her back to your bedroom and you followed behind him with her favorite stuffed bear.
The room remained quiet, the nightlights were dimmed and the atmosphere gave off a safe feeling. Akashi then gently pulled back the blankets and settled her in the very center of the bed.
“There.”
Your daughter looked from him to you. You smiled gently as you stepped forward with her bear. You placed it down right next to her. She immediately grabbed it and embraced it into a cuddle. She looked once more at the both of you and she made certain both of you were beside her and then she finally lie back against the pillow.
You climbed in first, gently stroking her hair.
Akashi slipped beneath the blankets on the opposite side, pulling them carefully over all three of you.
He placed his head on his hand as he watched his daughter with a smile.
“This was quite an efficient solution.”
You laughed quietly.
“That’s one way to put it.”
He met your gaze across the pillow.
“If she can see both of us when she wakes, there will be no reason for her to fear.”
Your daughter yawned, eyelids already growing heavy.
Within minutes, her breathing evened into the peaceful rhythm of sleep.
You looked over the top of her tiny head at your husband.
“I think she’s got us exactly where she wants us.”
Akashi’s eyes lingered on the sleeping little girl nestled safely between the two of you.
“Perhaps my heart.”
He gently brushed his thumb across the back of her tiny hand.
“Though I cannot say I mind.”
For the remainder of the night, neither of you moved.
Every so often your daughter would stir just enough to reassure herself.
Mama was still on one side and Papa was still on the other.
Only then would she smile in her sleep and drift peacefully back into her dreams.

Mibuchi Reo and the complex nature of nonbinary gender representation in manga/anime
The original post arguing Reo’s gender(lessness) insists that the evidence presented in Kurobas proves that Reo is without doubt meant to be interpreted as a canonically genderfluid or neutral character. Which is why I am going to argue the following:
Do I feel it’s valid to interpret Reo as trans (or more specifically, nonbinary)? Of course. Do I feel that Reo is, as a character, intended to be 100% canonically trans/nonbinary in the sense that Westerners understand words such as genderqueer/genderfluid/genderneutral? Highly unlikely.
My purpose is not to debunk the points brought up by the post above, but instead elaborate on how things like speech patterns, pronouns and other such modes of expression are not in fact 100% credible sources to assigning anyone a gender. Not only because in Reo’s case it can most likely be explained through onee-kotoba and gay stereotypes in Japan, but also because the spectrum of gender identity and gender expression is actually ten million times more complicated and multifaceted than that – particularly in the field of Japanese popular media (in this case, manga and anime).
My purpose is to offer some counterpoints to why the Japanese cultural sphere is, again, incredibly crucial to understanding how some of these concepts are used and perceived, and why it is incredibly misleading for Western readers to simply attach Western labels on things that originate in a different cultural context altogether. Moreover, I would personally also once more like to draw attention to the differences between gender expression (and presentation) and gender identity, because understanding the difference between the two is pivotal in realizing why debates like this fall, without doubt, on the grey area of the spectrum (pun not intended).
Lastly, I will use a few examples from other manga and anime to illustrate the difficulty of portraying (coded) trans characters to begin with, and why I do not feel like Fujimaki’s depiction of Reo is intended to be among these works.

Have you guys ever realized the Shuutoku team (the og in case I have to say it) are all older brothers with exactly one younger sibling?
Ootsubo, Miyaji, and Kimura's younger sibling are shown at the end of the story.
Midorima and Takao are said to have a younger sister.
Someone make all the five younger siblings meet lmao.
Yesss and Rakuzan is full of only children and last bro 😂😂
So the Shutoku vs Rakuzan match even is big bro vs (stereotypically) spoiled children 😭😭
