Why I chose to move back to NORTH CAROLINA!
By: Queenetta Moore, CPT, LMT
So, if you have not heard my latest personal newsâŚ.it is that Iâm moving back to North Carolina! Why?! Itâs the main question Iâve been asked after sharing the news with close friends and family.  Why would someone move from beautiful, sunny, bikini-clad, Miami to cold and gloomy North Carolina; especially in the FALL?
Well, Iâve taken the time out to share some of the reasons for my move back to NC after 2.5 years in Miami here.
It all started with a proposal from @getfitwithnic_! Blame her or thank her, depending on if youâre upset or happy about this decision. LOL!  During our #FitSummerTour, we got a chance to spend some quality time in NC with my friends and family.  During a random moment in conversation, Nic blurts out (this is her blunt and outspoken personality, lol) âI think you should move back to NC!â I immediately looked at her as if she had lost her everlasting mind Ă a Country term lol.  I seriously couldnât even entertain the thought much longer, even after having her list some very convincing reasons.
 a.    I had more help with my daughter (All of my family lives in NC)
b.    I had a great, supportive, group of friends
c. Â Â All of my former clients missed me and were ready to return to training.
As I stated, I didnât give it too much more thought. I returned back to Miami at the end of our tour with no thought of moving back to NC.  Not long after, I started my company (@21DaysToPlantBased) and couldnât believe how time became an even scarcer resource.  Being a single parent, helping your child with homework, building a brand and a business, while still maintaining some sort of personal time seemed nearly impossible.  Though I am blessed to have the help of my daughterâs fathersâ family locally, I couldnât help but think, what if that resource was not always available?  With my business requiring more and more travel, I NEEDED the convenience of being able to drop my daughter off at a family memberâs house or have them take her to school should a travel day fall throughout the week. The wheels began to turn.
A few weeks had passed and I didnât give the possibility of a move too much thought. Â The weather was awesome. I was able to lay out and get my daily dose of Vitamin D with ease. Â This is very important to me, if you know me lol. Â
Plant Pure Nation, a documentary by one of the most influential leaders in the Plant-Based movement, Dr. T. Colin Campbell and his son Nelson, was showing at a local cinema. I had been waiting to see it for a while and had been out of town during past local showings. Â I was ecstatic. One of his documentaries, Forks Over Knives, had been influential in my conversion to a plant-based, whole foods diet. Â What else could this father/son team offer me?
Not even 30 minutes into the viewing, my mouth literally dropped.  I watched, in disbelief as they recruited 130 people out of a small town in NORTH CAROLINA called Mebane, and reversed chronic conditions the participants had been experiencing. I was speechless (thankfully, as it was a movie cinema). For those of you who donât know NC, I had lived in Durham, NC. Located about 30 min away from this small town of Mebane.  With nothing but a set of Tanger outlets, and some really cheap gasâŚ.you would blink and pass right by it.
This international, PlantPureNation movement, led by the most influential man in plant based nutritional research was occurring in my back yard? How did this happen and I not know anything about it? I literally got up with almost 40 min left in the documentary and pondered. Â I couldnât sit still. Â Was this a sign? Maybe Nic was right! Clearly, this was not just by chance. Â
At that time, I intentionally became more receptive as to what was written in the stars for me.  I looked for signs to move or stay situated in Miami.
Well, my last and final confirmation came while sitting at my laptop, working on 21DTPB. An old neighbor of mine emailed me a very stunning article.  By the title alone, âThe 10 Most Vegetarian Cities in America.â
 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/vegetarian-cities-in-america_56200629e4b050c6c4a4f155?utm_hp_ref=taste&ir=Taste§ion=taste
I viewed it, knowing the article would be full of cities on the West Coast and probably Northeast. Never in a million years did I think Iâd see any city in NC on this list.  I was wrong.  Ranked #1, Durham/Chapel Hill.  I closed my laptop and sent the link to every one of my friends that I had talked about this move to.  That was it. Anyone who knew me at the time of my move KNEW the MAIN reason I moved was because it became increasingly harder to dine out.  The options were limited or not even available.  Most people didnât even have a clue what a âVeganâ was.  I had been offered shrimp and shellfish on more than one occasion when explaining my dietary restrictions. To even see that the term âvegetarianâ was linked to NC was monumental.  I had to do it.
Other signs have occurred since then but this is mainly it.  For the rest, youâll have to stay tuned :)
Personally, I feel my move away from NC was what I selfishly needed to grow and learn more about the culture, lifestyle, and different foods that would help me successfully maintain my commitment to stay plant based. Â I have likened this to going away to college. Â During those years, we learn at an accelerated pace what we may or may not have learned in our small towns. Â Though some choose to reside in their college towns, it is something to be said about those who return to their beginnings and share their newfound, wealth of knowledge there. Â
With Durham County growing in the number of undiagnosed diabetes cases, Columbus County being the unhealthiest county in NC (where my family resides), and the most recent news of my grandfather recently losing two of his toes due to diabetes, I couldnât ignore it. Â
My time has come to share the knowledge Iâve learned in these 2.5 years with the people I love the most.  This is my lifestyle; one that I am very passionate about and can not wait to bring the vibrancy and healing nature of it to The Carolinas. Â
 Thank you for reading!

Turn on some relaxing music and take 40 min to yourself! Here are just some of the benefits of Epsom salt. đ Epsom is different than traditional salts in that it is actually a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. These minerals have very powerful health benefits that can enhance the detoxification capabilities of the body. How an Epsom salt bath works: Magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed through the skin and into the body's blood stream. The skin is a highly porous membrane that both takes in minerals and eliminates toxins every day. Using a powerful mineral base such as Epsom salts in a bathwater medium creates a process called reverse osmosis. This process pulls salt and harmful toxins out of the body and allows the magnesium and sulfates to enter into the body. Magnesium plays a critical role in over 325 enzymes, helps to improve muscle and nerve function, reduces inflammation and improves blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. Sulfates are necessary building blocks for healthy joints, skin and nervous tissue. Epsom salts replenish the body's magnesium levels and sulfates. This combination helps to flush toxins from the body and helps build key protein molecules in the brain tissue and joints. The use of regular Epsom salt baths has been shown to improve the symptoms of many health conditions including athlete's foot, gout, toenail fungus, sprains, bruises and muscle soreness. It is also good for anyone dealing with chronic disease or chronic pain to do regular Epsom baths to help detoxify and de-inflame while improving mineral and sulfur balance in the body. How to take an Epsom salt bath: The first step is to schedule yourself at least 40 minutes, as you need about 20 minutes to remove the toxins, and for the second 20 minutes, the body absorbs the minerals in the bath water. Fill up your bath with warm water. Be sure to have a water filtration system in your house, as you don't want to bathe in tap water that has toxic chlorine, fluoride, dioxins and heavy metals. Add in the Epsom salts in the following amounts: Continued in caption đđž
Maddie and her cousin enjoyed Homemade Chocolate Chip Vegan Pancakes this morning for breakfast! Though neither of them are vegan (Maddie has been mainly vegetarian), they both LOVE these pancakes. Low in sugar, these whole wheat pancakes are fluffy, moist, egg and dairy free! Check out my SnapChat to see me make these and for helpful nutritional tips! ::: wrkoutqueenie Ingredients: 1 cup flour (all-purpose or whole wheat) 1 teaspoon sugar (brown, preferably) 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt (himalayan pink, preferably) 1 Tablespoon ground flax seed meal 1 cup + 1 Tablespoon non-dairy milk (any nut or rice milk) 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar 1 Tablespoon coconut oil Vegan chocolate chips Directions: Make the flax "egg" w/ 1 Tbsp of ground flaxseed meal w/3 Tbsp of water, do not mix, let coagulate and sit In a medium bowl, add the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt) and stir together In a separate bowl, add the non-dairy milk and ACV to create buttermilk. Then add one Tbsp melted coconut oil and finally the flax "egg"Â you prepared in step 1. Mix. Now, carefully mix the two together without stressing the batter (VERY IMPORTANT). To do this form a "crater" in the middle o the dry ingredients, then pour the wet ingredients into the crater. SLOWLY stir until most of the batter is incorporated. A few small lumps are your friend, over mixing is NOT! Warm the pan over med-high heat for 3-5 min. Using coconut oil, preferably, lightly coat the pan to prevent pancakes from sticking. Test the temperature of your pan with a drizzle of the mix. If it sizzles, you are GOOD to GO! Use a 1/4 c measurement to create 4in pancakes. If you are adding chocolate chips, allow the pancake to cook for about a minute before adding chocolate chips. Wait about another minute and flip. Let cook for 2 minutes and then transfer to a warm oven (175 degrees) Top w/blueberries, maple syrup, Earth Balance butter, peanut buter, coconut whipped cream, or whatever youâd like.

For quite sometime during 2012, I had a sudden onset of adult acne. I had never really dealt with problematic facial issues, my #acne issues were primarily on my back. With my mother, and uncle as well as some cousins having these issues I ignored my back acne and simply over cleaned the area letting it rest on genetics. I consequently dried my skin out and left bad blemishes I was sure would never go away. Facial acne was a different feat. I was really lost, I had no idea what was causing it and sought medical advice. My doctor prescribed me antibiotics as he could not find any causes due to topical bacteria. Immediately, I was relieved! I wanted a quick fix, and I wanted it THEN! I was hesitant though....antibiotics?!? Really?!? What was going on internally that could cause my face to look like this? So, I took to the Internet...after very little research I found that although stress (which I wasn't experiencing at the time) was a huge cause of acne, so was dairyđ. I then began to reevaluate my diet. I was taking atleast 2 whey protein shakes a day, 1 in the morning and 1 post-workout and possibly casein before bed. On top of that, I was consuming a serving of cottage cheese or Greek yogurt throughout the day even though I couldn't stand the consistency....but PROTEIN! đˇ I ran into a dilemma! I didn't know how to replace dairy, except for the substitution of almond milk, and still keep my PROTEIN! đŤ So, I cut back on protein shakes, taking one only when I really wanted it. Cheese was hard for me to give up as I was always the "extra cheese, please" girl. Smh. đˇ Though I did not fully give up dairy at the time, I could see my face clearing up. My back, still a different story. When I found Veganism, I found my way to what STILL remains a CLEAR back, with NO blemishes. I never took a picture of what it looked like before as I was simply too embarrassed; I didn't wear bathing suits then. I wear them with pride now. Are you experiencing acne/backne issues? Are you still consuming dairy? Join me for my @21daystoplantbased challenge and fully remove dairy and the mucus it causes from your diet đ www.21DaysToPlantBased.comđ
My morning routine! Each morning before I eat anything or drink anything else, I start my day with a liter of warm (not hot, not cold) lemon water. For many, a liter may seem to be a bit much but for myself, I feel it takes about this to really get myself going. You can start with two glasses đŞđź Why do I drink warm lemon water in the morning? Well, as many nutrients as you consume, if you don't have clean bowels....it's pretty much a waste. Your intestines absorb your nutrients and if they are blocked with yesterday's crap (pun intended) and undigested food, then how can it absorb all the amazing nutrients you plan to put in it today?!? You need your morning poop! And you need it without the use of harsh stimulants like caffeine and nicotine (no lie, I know some smokers that say this is the reason they won't stop smoking, because it keeps them regular đ). Why is the water warm and not hot or cold? Well, if your normal body temp is about 98.6 and we want this to work fast so we can get to our breakfast meals....then it would seem beneficial to drink a temperature close to its internal environment so no cooling or warming is needed for metabolization. Plus, there's a lot of disadvantages to drinking cold water. More on that at another time. Can I use lemon juice in the little lemon-shaped bottle? Hell no. Real freaking lemons. Can my lemon be conventional or does it have to be organic? I'm going to always say organic but especially in this case as it's the first thing you're digesting in the morning and for the benefit of detoxification, I wouldn't add any pesticide residues and who-knows-what-else to your awesome, new, routine. What have you noticed since adopting this routine? đ more energy đ more regular bowel movements đ increased metabolism đ weight loss/weight stabilization (when at my goal weight) đ decreased desire for soda or anything carbonated đ decreased desire for soda made me not want a bag of chips to wash it down with when I first started this routine (still an omni at the time and still had cheat snacks). So this was a win-win, no chips, no soda, more water đŞđź Any side effects? đ some may view it as nasty, but I welcome it

That morning urine is a good indicator of how well you hydrated yourself yesterday. Where are you on this chart?!? Do better today đŞ Helpful tip: Grab a reusable 1 liter BPA-free container, fill it with the water of your choice (as long as it's not tap) and focus on drinking one liter in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and 1 in the evening. I personally will not allow myself to eat anything in the AM until I've cleared my 1st liter. It's my way of keeping me on track đŞ #HydrationIsKey

Mommy + Daughter JUICE!!! (Pineapple + Ginger) by: @wrkoutqueenie
So Iâve been on a little cleanse here lately, detoxing from the heavy metals and radiation that Iâve been exposed to by recent MRIâs, x-rays and pain meds. I will share more of my âheavy metal detox green juicesâ and their recipes on my blog, so make sure to follow and like :: www.wrkoutqueenie.tumblr.com! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Needless to say, Iâm still experiencing pain from the accident and for those of you who donât know PINEAPPLE is great for fighting inflammation and joint pain due to itâs exclusive source of BROMELAIN. Â
Maddie is also fighting a bit of a bug so pineappleâs high vitamin C content will help her ward that off as well!
The GINGER we added to this morningâs juice will aid in helping with inflammation for me as well as for her. Â In addition, it contains properties that inhibit the rhinovirus (causes the common cold). If you suffer from severe menstrual pain, ginger has been shown to improve pain symptoms in up to 83% of women. Dealing with nausea from pregnancy or stomach upset? Ginger is for you!
This happens to be my favorite natural fruit juice combinations! As always, when juicing you should consume more green juices than fruit juices! You can always add some kale, spinach, collards or leafy green to this for added nutrients. Â
If you are on the #VeganSmartChallenge, this is also a great addition to your cleanse! Bottoms up and enjoy!!!
