I much prefer the Terra retcon because if you read interviews from Deathstroke co-creator Perez at that time it wasn't to make Slade or loser or crybaby. The writers actually thought it did make Slade cool and smart, neither writer saw it as pedophilia. In fact they wrote it that way because he thought it demonised *Terra* because she was (and I quote) "a slut". The whole thing was written to make Terra a morally bankrupt person not Slade. So I say good riddance to that whole thing.

Because Deathstroke (Slade) was meant to be his Wonderful Shades of Gray Antagonist, basically two steps down from the Punisher morally. Wolfman and Perez thought the hate for Tara being the way she was would fall only on her. Nor did they ever admit they were wrong about it. And they were baffled that people felt that way. You want to know why. The best answer I can give you is "because they were shallow a-holes". What grinds *my* gears is the only reason a *good* Tara (Terra II) ever *existed* was because in the 90s an editor tried to make Wolfman bring Terra back (Perez was long gone by then) and Wolfman was like "no, I refuse! I will make a good girl version who isn't actually her, just looks like her for convoluted alternate timeline sci fi reasons!"

she got a tragic origin by accident; the Outsiders writers created a male character with similar powers (Geo-Force), and so she became his half sister, the unwanted bastard child of the Markovian throne. Question is, should she STAY a villain, unredeemed? Too many who claim to love her want to continue to condemn her, tragic origin or no. Playing into Wolfman's hands in the process.

I'm so glad someone agrees with me about The Vampire Diaries. I thought I was alone and I was the only one. I absolutely can't stand Elena or any of the Mystic Falls Gang. And how self-involved and selfish they all were, and how horribly they treated people who weren't part of their group. It was one thing for the antagonists (Katherine, Klaus) to be this way, but having the Mystic Falls Gang, who were supposed to be the protagonists we root for, be that way as well, I don't know what the writers were thinking. And the fact that they'd get mad at fans for not liking the characters or the storylines, and couldn't handle the criticism, speaks major volumes about them too. How people defend these characters actions or think that any of them deserved happy endings is beyond me.

I was always confused about Terra supposedly having no tragic backstory to justify making her a villain.
