“Yo Rafe, check out that girl.” Kelce said patting his friend’s back and pointing in the direction of a girl they’ve never seen before. Her hair was down and wild in its natural state, her teeth pearly white and always-on display, flashing a smile to everyone. The dress she wore clung to her body perfectly, her shape gluing Rafe’s eyes to her body. Never in his life had Rafe seen a girl this perfect. Obviously, she wasn’t perfect, nobody is but, she was perfect in his eyes. He knew from that point forward, that he wanted her to be his.

As he introduced himself to the girl, his palms became sweaty and his heart rate sped up. She was so kind, so sweet, so pretty, so sexy. She told him her name was y/n. Y/N, a perfect name for a perfect girl, he thought. The palms of their hands met in the center of their bodies and she shook them up and down as a way to greet him. Rafe invited her to hang with his friends and from that point forward, she became his everything, though, y/n didn’t know that.

Ever since the day Rafe met y/n, all he could think about, all day, was her. Y/N, Y/N this, Y/N that, Y/N is so pretty, Y/N is so cute, I wonder what Y/N is doing right now. These thoughts would circle through his head till he got a chance to see her. He wondered if she was thinking of him throughout the day. He wanted her to, needed her to. Rafe felt like he couldn’t breathe without her around.

It wasn’t much different today either. All that was on his mind, was the girl he called his best friend. The girl he didn’t want to be friends with. The girl he wanted to be more than friends with. The girl he was so hopelessly in love with. Rafe couldn’t wait to see her after his classes.

As his black truck pulled up to her apartment, his heart rate sped up, as it did the day he first met y/n. It didn’t slow, even when his fist collided with her door. Even when her face popped up from behind the blue door, in fact, it sped up even more.

“Good day, Kook King.” Y/N curtsied as she stepped aside and let him in. Rafe shoved her shoulder and then went to plop down on her couch. Y/N grabbed a glass of water for him before being seated. As she handed the glass to him, their fingers brushed against each other. She acts as if nothing happened but, Rafe’s breath hitched and his palms became slick and sweaty. As Emily In Paris played in the background, y/n let out a sigh.

“Lord, I haven’t been on a date in years.” She slides her hand down her face as she watches Emily makeout with Gabriel in a club. I know who you can date, he thought to himself.

“I have the perfect person for you.” He whispers, without even thinking. Rafe had thought he said it in his head but, it came out of his mouth. Both of their eyes widen, one with regret and one with excitement. Neither of them expected him to say that but, it just came out.

“Who?” Her lips started to curve into a smile. She though he might have been joking but, the look on his face said otherwise. He couldn’t tell her. He couldn’t tell her he was talking about himself. She would never want to be with him, no matter how much Rafe wanted her to.

“I have a lot of…single friends…” Why did I say that, his thoughts shouted at him. He knew that he should of just told her. Layed it out, plane and simple but, something inside him was holding him back. It’s almost as if a lightbulb went off in y/n’s head. Her eyes brightened and her posture straightened.

“Rafe, do you think you could set me up with one of them?” Shattered. That sentence shattered Rafe’s heart into a million pieces. He knew she didn’t love him the way he did her but, he also didn’t think she could say something like that to his face. His body stiffened and his eyes started to feel warm, almost as if they were starting to fill with tears. But, the hope in her eyes was the thing that made him say,

“Yeah…of course…yes.” A squeal escaped her lips and she didn’t waist time before jumping on him and wrapping her arms around his shoulders. Without thinking, Rafe buried his face into the crook of her neck. He wanted to let it all out. To cry and to have her comfort him but, then he’d have to tell her what exactly he was upset about. So, he held back his tears.

“I love you, Rafe.” She cheered into his hair. This made his eyes feel even warmer. Not the way I want you to, he cries in his head. All he can do now is take all of this, this pain, and fold it up in a little box to shove in the back of his head. Right now, he had to be there for y/n. Even if that meant seeing her happy with someone else.

Suddenly, a thought popped in his head. He did have the perfect friend for y/n. At leaste, perfect for him in a way. All of the tears got sucked back in and were replace by a sensation of peace. He couldn’t loose her. Especially not to one of his friends.

“Come on Miles, one date!” He whined, following his friend around the country club.

“Rafe, no! I’m not going on a date with her. We have nothing in common.” Another groan escaped Rafe’s lips as he continued to follow Miles around the restaurant. He clearly wasn’t getting the point of this.

“That’s the point! I can’t have her dating anyone, not right now. Not while I’m still in love with her. Please man, just do this one time. That’s all I ask of you.” Rafe pleaded. He knew he sounded stupid and crazy but, it was the only way.

“Okay then why don’t you just tell her?” He finally stopped and turned around to face Rafe. Both sets of clear blue eyes staring at each other intensely. Miles knew his friend had been in love with y/n since they met. He’s also told Rafe multiple times to just grow a pear and ask her out but, look where that’s gotten him.

“Because she doesn’t love me, Miles. She never will but, I just like having her to myself right now. And if she gets a real boyfriend, I’ll loose her and I can’t loose my y/n. So, please, do this for me.” Rafe now has his hand on Miles’s shoulder and is using his other to emphasize is words whilst speaking. The red-headed boy started thinking about what his friend was offering.

“Fine Rafe but, promise me when it’s over you’ll tell her.” When Rafe went to shake his head, Miles grabs his shoulder.

“Look man, you’ll never know how she truly feels if you don’t ask. You owe her that. Especially after what I’m about to do.” Rafe knew Miles was right. He knew he had to tell her eventually.

“Fine, I promise but, let me do it at my own pace.” With that Miles grins and starts walking away. He stops when he sees a familiar face pop up at the entrance. Familiar from pictures Rafe had shown him of course. Y/N had dropped by to see Rafe but, that’s when his plan ws going to officially start.

“Your time to shine buddy.” Rafe patted his friends shoulder, only receiving and eye-roll inreturn.

“Rafe!” She cheers as she runs towards his tall figure. He meets her half way and sh jumps into his arms. He knew it was just her being his best friend but, a part of him hoped it was because she loved his hugs the way he loved hers. They pulled away when y/n’s eyes met a pair of bright blue ones over his shoulder.

“Uh hi, I’m Miles.” He reaches his hand out to shake hers. Nothing sparks as their hands touch, Rafe can see it too. Y/N is nods and he can see her face heating up. She does this cute thing where she bites her lip to contain her smile. Rafe told her not to do that, she has a beautiful smile, she should show it. Maybe this would be a lot harder than Rafe thought.

“I’m y/n.” Rafe backed away and went to set at the bar. He sees JJ working it but, that’s the least of his worries right now.

“My usual.” He request, never taking his eyes off of y/n. He can hear a scoff from the blonde pogue behind him. It doesn’t bother him because, once again, least of his worries right now.

“Weren’t you just begging Miles to ask her out.” JJ pointed out while handing Rafe his drink. Normally Rafe would snap back with a ‘none of your business, pogue’ but, that wasn’t him today.

“Yeah…I did.” He doesn’t turn his attention to JJ, but averts his gaze to his drink. His finger starts tracing the outline of the top of his glass as he sits there, depressed, watching the girl he loved get all flustered from his friend. What if the plan didn’t work? What if they end up actually liking each other?

“Not really his type but, whatever gets you to sleep at night you kook.” Once again, normally Rafe would snap back at that. Hell, he would have pinned JJ to the bar by now but, all he did was glare at him as he walked to the other side of the bar. He knew he was right, which gave him the comfort in knowing, they won’t last the full date with each other.

The heels of her shoes clicked against the wooden floor and he turns around to be met with the sight of a goddess. The tan silk dress she wore clinging to her body perfectly. What was he even thinking? All of her outfit clung to her body perfectly. Her hair was, once again, down in it’s natural state but, you could still tell she put the proper products in it. All of her gold jewlery adorning her skin and making it pop.

She was dressed up. All pretty and glam but, not for him. He knew it but, as she appeared from behind the door, his words got caught in his throught and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. Can I be him? Just for tonight, he thought. Oh how he wanted to be Miles so bad right now. This was a bad idea and he knew it.

He should have never suggested this. The girl he would jump off a cliff for, or sleigh a dragon for, or hell even talk to a pogue for, was going on a date. Not with him, with his best friend. This was a horrible idea and it was going to ruin him if it didn’t go as planned.

“Well…how do I look?” She asks as she twirls around. The dress moving with her. Rafe couldn’t form words. They couldn’t come out of his mouth. All he wanted to do was charge towards her, wrap her in his arms, and never let go. That could never happen though.

“Wo- I- wow…I- I mean…yeah, wow.” He stuttered out, making y/n giggle. She started towards him, stopping right infront of him. Her arms come up to wrap around his neck and she stares up at him. As she pulls him down, Rafe’s cheeks are on fire and his stomach is fluttering with hope. At the last second, she swerves her head and places it on his shoulder.

“Thank you, Rafe. Seriously, you don’t know how much I love you for this.” She smiles into his plaid button down that covered his shoulder. Not the way you should, Rafe thought to himself. His head was once again buried into her neck. This time, he could smell the candy-scented perfume she sprayed onto herself. The smell he loved and wish he could smell every second of every day. She pulled away and their faces were mere inches apart.

“I love you, Rafe.” y/n smiles before planting a friendly kiss on his heated cheek. She then pulled away fully just in time for the doorbell to ring. Rafe stood there for a second, more like minutes, hours, days, years. That just happened, y/n just kissed him. But, it meant nothing ot her.

“Hey Miles.” He could just hear the huge smile plastered on her face. A few more mumbles later and then y/n yelled that they were leaving. Rafe didn’t respond. He couldn’t. As soon as the door clicked shut, he broke. Right there, in the middle of the room.

Can I be him?, He thought again. Oh how he loved that girl, who just walked out of the house with Miles, instead of him.

Her fork picked at the steak in front of her. Miles had chosen to go to a steakhouse. Not even letting her have a say in it. Y/N hated steak. He would have known that if he had just asked. On the other side of the table, Miles was going to town on his steak.

The way he eats. His jaw made it look like he was getting a full face workout. He also didn’t even bother to wipe his mouth as he did. What the hell, Rafe?, she thought. He knew she wasn’t a fan of messy eaters. Lord knows she was raised in a house of kooks who would brutally murder you if you ate without proper table manners.

Miles, however, was. He was doing the exact thing her parents taught her not to do. Eat like an animal.

“So…you into golfing?” He finally wiped his mouth with the fabric napkin layed out on the table in front of him. Their eyes met and it was nothing like the first time. The first time, she saw a good looking young man whom Rafe paired her with. Now, she sees a messy teenage boy who, for the…third time now was it, brought up a activity she hated.

“Nope.” She responds. Her tone the same as it has been for the past hour. She couldn’t take it anymore. This date is horrible. He likes all the things she doesn’t and, to top it off, eats like a pig. Y/N slams her fork down on the table and gains his attention.

“Listen Miles, I’m sorry but I don’t think this is going to work out.” She waited for a response, asking her why not, but she was just met with a relieved breath from him.

“Glad you caught on, geez took you long enough.” He brings his drink up to his lips and takes a huge glup from it. Her eyebrows lower and her lips part. What the fuck is he talking about?, her head wondered.

“What?” It came out a bit loder than she wanted it to, gaining a few stares. Miles lowers his glass to the table before starting,

“You do know this was all Rafes idea right?’ She nods. “Then you should know that he knew you and I had nothing in common. In fact, that’s why he asked me specifically.” Her face is now a mixture of anger, frustration, and confusion.

“He’s in love with you, y/n. Has been since the day you two met. That’s why he did this.” Miles waves his finger in between them. Y/N’s eyes widen and her head is now spinning. Rafe Cameron was in love with her? The guy she always thought as a best friend. The guy who she cried with. The guy who brought her things on her period. The guy who’d never let a creep hit on her. Was in lo…Oh wait.

Before saying goodbye, she got up from the table and bolted out of the restaurant door. She had to get home. She had to sleep on this. She had to think about it all before she could come to a conclusion. Because, there was no way…

Hot. That’s what she felt as she walked up to the Cameron estate. Not the kind of hot you feel when your dressed in a bikini and about to catch everyones attention with how sexy you look. No, this was the kind you felt when you were feeling things. Mixed feelings on what Miles had told her last night. Her palms were sweaty and her heart was beating out of her chest.

Finally, she worked up enough courage to know on the door. If it didn’t open in ten seconds she would run back to her car and forget this ever happened. Maybe move to alaska, with dogs pulling her on a sled and snow as thick as-

The door opened revealing a shirtless Rafe. Holy shit. She had seen him shirtless multiple times but, something about this time was different. It’s like her eyes have finally been open. His broad shoulders, his abs, his v line that kept going farther, and farther dow-

“Hey there, Perv.” He chuckles and her eyes widen. She didn’t realize she had been staring for that long. A smirk was plastered on his face and he crossed his arms as he leaned against the door frame. He knew what he was doing and to be honest, y/n loved it. She had been thinking all night and had came to the realization that, her best friend was willing to do all of that just to be with her.

“Come in and stop checking me out.” His words caught her off guard but, he stepped aside and motioned for her to come in.

“I wasn’t- No- see what happened-” Y/N started but was cut off my Rafes figure moving closer to her. Only a few inched of space in between their faces. Her breath got caught in her throught when he brought his hand up to her lips, as if he were trying to tell her shush.

“I didn’t mind, y/n/n.” His finger glided down her lips and before she could melt into him, he stepped back and started towards the kitchen. Oh he definentaly knew what he was doing.

“How did your date go?” He asked with his back still turnt to her. You would know, her mind snapped back. She didn’t respond, just stood there, waiting for something. She didn’t know what but, it made her want him. Want him back in front of her, with his hands all over her, and his lips attached to hers. She could just do it, march over to him and crash her lips into his but, she needed answers.

“Horrible but…I bet you knew it would…right?” She worked up the courage to say it. Finally. Maybe within the next few seconds she’d get what she whished for. His back stiffins and he sits the leftovers he pulled out of the fridge down on the counter. Y/N decided to be extra bold and walk over next to him. She jumped up on the counter beside him, making sure her thigh brushes against his hand.

Rafe took a long, deep, breath before finally meeting her eyes. The normal blue hue of his eyes were now darker, full of something y/n couldn’t quite put her finger on. Slowly, he moved over to her. His hands coming to sit beside he waist, trapping her up on the counter, and, once again, their faces were only inches apart. This seems to happen a lot. Suddenly, his eyes soften and she can see they were full of regret this time.

“Y/N, I’m so sorry-” His words were cut off by her lips on his. Her hands were running through his – messy – hair and his found their home on her waist. Every now and then his hands would travel up her back and to her neck, pressing her into him. She opened he mouth a little to let his tongue slide in. Before it gets too heated, he pulls away but rests his head on hers.

“I’m in love with you, y/n.” He says finally catching his breath. Her face starts to heat up and her heart starts to feel full. He’s already given her his heart now, it was time for her to return the favor,

“I’m in love with you too, Rafe. I’m sorry it took me this long to realize it.” His eyes meet hers and he can’t help but smile. She loved him back. Rafe wasits no more tim before smashing their lips together again. They’re both smiling into the kiss and their hands are all over each other.

They were in love. She was his. He was hers. She was finally His y/n.
