Hi everyone. Iâm sorry to say that Iâm stopping this project early. Right now, in fact. Not only is my account limited, the person who has been harassing the writeblr community is now reblogging writing posts Iâve reblogged with animal gore. I cannot and will not continue to subject you all to that. Iâm sorry. Thank you all for what this has been so far.

âYou want me to do this?â Arielle asked, surprised. They had indeed expected it would be something serious since he looked so dreadful when he called her after the meeting, but Kaiki wasnât even looking in her eyes.
âSomeone... Someoneâs gotta do it,â he said, leaning his back against the wall behind the garden. âLis is not here. And I donât trust anyone else,â he admitted.
Ari looked down.
âIf thatâs... what you really want.â She looked up back at him. Kaiki seemed to be holding back tears. He took a deep breath and conjured up the knife heâd been hiding. Arielle tried to supress her nerves at the mere sight of it. The early afternoon sun reflected on its blade, the shape of it distinct from any other theyâd ever seen. Kaiki held the carved hilt as if it was a dangerous animal that would run off his hand would he not wrap his fingers around it tight enough. He didnât seem much happy at it either.
It probably brought him bad memories.
âItâs gonna be okay,â they tried reassuring him. âCan I...â Ari hesitated. But it was important to ask. âCan I give you a hug?â
He pursed his lips nodded his head, looking up to the sky. He was hiding his eyes.
Arielle wrapped their arms around Kaiki, resting their chin against the top of his head. Kaiki didnât recipricate the hug. He didnât need to.
When Arielle pulled away, Kaikiâs cheeks were wet with tears. She thought maybe heâd raise his hands to wipe them off, but he didnât made a single motion to acknowledge them. He took another deep, shaky breath.
âHere,â he held the weapon up to them, the metal end turned to himself. His fingers trembled a little. Arielleâs did not.
She was kinda used to it at this point.
So they pushed the guilt away, remembering he would be okay. Eventually. And when they did that, things would finally near an end.
âItâs gonna be quick. I promise,â Ari tested the weight of the blade, dealing a few swings to see how it was.
Not bad.
âIâm ready.â
Now it was them that didnât want to look in his eyes. They did anyway. Arielle wasnât much of a smiler, but they tried offering a comforting one regardless. It probably wasnât the best.
Kaikiâs lips curled up a bit, coy. Ari tentatively held the back of his head, pulling him closer in a loose embrace. He didnât pull away, even after a few seconds, so she warned him, gave a light smooch on his forehead, and he closed his eyes, bracing himself.
âI see you soon, Kai.â
Arielle cut his head off in a quick blow.
--
Even though they knew it wasnât permanent, it was still a weird sight to see him like this. Hands over his heart, body carefully divided in two by the neck. She narrowed her eyes, trying to stop tears from spilling out.
I did it! Febuwhump day four (five days late lmao) is done! After three triesI managed to do it. It honestly could've been a bit better but it's going. Cws for underage whumpee (Meine is around twelve--although this one is not necessarily whump). I think that's all. If I forgot anything, please warn me! Enjoy.
Febuwhump day 4: Obedience.
Meine is admiring the colors of the tents when Noah calls him.
âMeineâ, he says, voice mixing with the loud music and feisty atmosphere of the fair. Meine loves it. So many pretty colors, different smells, happy chatting around him--
His father rested a hand on his shoulder to catch his attention and Meine flinched. âYes, father?â
âDo you remember why are we here?â He asks.
Meine looks at the colors that warm him up inside. He nods.
His father raises an eyebrow, as if saying, what did I say about not answering me properly?
âI doâ, he answered, before Father prompted him again.
âGoodâ, he smiled. âDonât distract yourself.â
Meine bit a lip. âYes, father.â
He just followed him around, passing through all the people that were enjoying the fair.Â
He had a job. He was here to help Father.
He had to wear a turtleneck and a brown tuxedo. Noah didnât want him looking bad when they went out. Father had a white button-up and a long suit. Sometimes, like this, Meine could understand why people thought they looked alike. Even their suits were the same color.
Noah stopped sometimes to observe a tent or a group of people, but Meine knew he didntât actually care.
He was only here for the stones.
Meine avoided trying to locate them just yet, because his eyes were a bit tired and he wanted to use his powers only when he was needed.
He stopped when Noah pulled his arm and looked amused at one of the tents.
It was a large one, with lots of shiny rocks and precious gems carefully displayed over wooden shelves and a table with white cloth. Meine thought it was pretty. The table was in the shape of an L, and the tent was one of those that had a tarp on top of it and hanging down to make a wall-kind of thing on the back. There was a tall woman built like a wall behind one of the tables.
Meine glanced at the prices.
They were pretty low for what they were looking for.
Father smiled to himself and whispered on his ear to start looking.
Meine was quick to obey.
While Father chatted with the owner, Meine looked fot the hecatites. He tried to remember the market rules for them. If the seller wasnât completely sure that their rocks were actual hecatites they were obliged by law to lower their prices. The process to test them would usually be super expensive, but Meine could see their power and find them easily.
âCurious one, arenât you?â The woman said softy, and after an embarrassing second, Meine noticed it was aimed at him.
âHe likes hecatitesâ Noah answered, sparing him from having to answer.
âI think we should take these, fatherâ, Meine spoke up, pointing at some rocks that had a specially reddish aura. These were the hardest ones to find, and looking for them this way, only taking home the ones they needed was way better than importing tons and tons and having Meine identify each one, just to discard the ones they didnât have use for.Â
Or at least it was what father told him.
âAre you sure?â Father asked.
Meine double checked just in case, but he was sure. Father told him the auras were more difficult to identify in open spaces like these so heâd have a wider error range, but he wanted to be sure he wouldnât fail.
Noah then smiled at him, approving, and Meine could feel himself smiling as Father finished the bought and payed the owner.
That was not the last tent they visited. They spent the whole day like that, until twillight painted the sky red and the tents started lighting up ilumination for the night turn.
âOh, one more thing,â Noah says when theyâre entering the limousine.
Meine looked up at him.
âBefore going home, weâve got one more person to visitâ, he smiled. âYou will evaluate them.â
Meine supressed a sigh. He was somewhat tired, and was hoping they could go home already.
But the only thing that left his lips was âyes, fatherâ.
Uhh, cws for whump of a minor (Meine is supposed to be around eight here), physical abuse mentions, strong language and parent whumper. I don't think it's a great piece, but it exists! It's something! Enjoy.
Febuwhump day 2: Solitary confinement
âYouâre grounded.â
Meine tensed up slighty but ignored him, the white noise of the TV show playing on the background.
His father took the control off his hands and then Meine knew he was in serious trouble.
âWhy?â He mumbled. He gripped tighter on the pencil he had on the other hand, avoiding eye contact.
Noah looked up and down at him in a way that sent chills down his spine. âI think you know exactly why, Meine.â
He looked down. It wasnât fair. He was tired and wanted a break. The first time he said that, Father slapped him on the cheek. Meine hated it when he did it. But he was exhausted. It wasnât easy to train his powers and keep going down on the white floors everyday to identify stupid stones. And read books. And listen to Fatherâs assistants talking. He did want to help his father, but it was so hard. He had to learn so many stuff first, and learning wasnât easy. He was tired and wanted a break. And all Meine did this time was leaving his room a little messy.
âUp, now.â Meine flinched with the tone. âMeine.â
Meine held onto the blue pencil but got up. Noah sighed. âMeineâ, he said with a gentler tone. âWhat did I told you about leaving things like that?â
Meine didnât say anything. Noahâs voice got a little more agressive. âMeine. You are not colaborating. You know that I need you to behave and do as youâre told. I wonât have a thankless brat as my child, your hear me?â
Meine didnât look up. âYes, father.â
Noah shook his head and said, âfollow me.â When Meine hesited, he grabbed his son by his hand and walked him through the corridors. They proceeded in silence, Meineâs heart pounding inside his chest. He was in trouble. He should have done what his father wanted. He would be hurt. He should have cleaned his room. Where were they going? Meine couldnât remember where were they going. He wouldnât need to remember if he just did what he was supposed to do. HeâŚ
Eventually, the walls got lighter and flawlessier. They had reached the inferior floors. Meine knew what his father guaded down there. The walls were way too shiny and the floor was way too white. The lights were too bright and and he hated it down there. It was were he trained and helped Father. It was were Noah kept his research labs and hecatite stones for him to identify. The doors were either transparent and made of thin glass or white and misterious.
Thatâs were his father was leading him. A corridor full of white doors. Meine felt nauseous. Noah looked down at him and opened the door, revealing a white room that was way too blank for his liking, with almost nothing on it but a matress near the wall and a small bank, all looking like it was dyed on the exact same tone of white. Meine knew his father liked white but this seemed way too much.
âYou are going to stay here.â He said. Meine looked up at him in panic.
âW-what?â
âYou heard me.â He took Meine into the room. âStay here and think on what you did. That is your punishment.â
âI donât--itâs not fair!â
âWhat isnât fair, is that I have to keep up with your shit, when you wonât even obey me.â
âBut I-â
âNo butâs, Meine. You know if you did as you were told you wouldnât be here.â
âIâm-Iâm sorry--â
âGood. Now be a good boy and take your punishment.â
Noah started leaving.
âFather! How-how long will you--â
âYou will stay here until I make up my mind, Meine.â
No, no, no. But what would he eat? He wanted to sleep. He couldnât--he didnât want to.
âF-father, pleaseâ, he sobbed. âDonât leave me here.â
Noah sighed and approached him.
âMeine.â He said softly, and caressed his cheek. Meine flinched, and continued sobbing. âYou know, it may not seem so, but youâll understand it when youâre older. Iâm doing it for both your own good and mine. We canât keep going like this, can we?â Meine shook his head. âI know youâre sorry, and that is very good, but you did a bad thing and now you have to face the consequences.â
After looking at him one more, he left, and Meine tried to stop crying. When he heard the loud crack of the door locking, he curled around himself, and this room--why--unlike the others, didnât have lights. It didnât have windows. It didnât have anything. It didnât have a single person.
He was alone there. The only living breathing thing on the room. He inhaled sharply and gripped the pencil stronger.
In a world where magic has made its way into people's lives in the past century, some have rarer skills than others, and a group of teens has to prevent theirs from being stolen away.
ID. A colored sketch of a lineup of Meine and Alisson wearing fancy partywear. Alisson has a black and white dress with jacket and holds a rose, and Meine has a red suit and holds a black orchid. End ID.

CWs: Minor whump (all characters are in their teenage years), abusive romantic dynamics (whumpee and whumper are dating), multiple whumpers (ish?), noncon kissing, noncon touching (mostly nonsexual apart from the kissing), very faintly implied noncon, some misgendering
hey princess!
are you ready?
donât take too long
im coming in a biy
bit*
Kaiki clutched his phone in his hand. Mali had sent the message five minutes ago. She was probably going to arrive any minute now.
He threw it on his bed.
What probably wasnât long after, Luna found him with knees raised up to his chest, sitting on his mattress with his back leaning on the wall.
âKai?â She called, worry lacing her voice. âAre you good? Your girlfriendâs here to pick you up.â
He groaned.
âIâm okay,â he answered. âGonna come down in a bit.â
She looked at him a bit weird but left his room with a shrug.
Kaiki cupped his face on his hands. He was fine. The dread on his chest didnât seem to agree but he was. It was probably some nervousness because he hadnât met Maliâs friends yet nor did he know what they were like or if they were all touchy like her or what they liked to talk about and they were all going to watch some movie he didnât know if he was gonna like. Not the ideal date, but it wouldnât be so bad. Probably. Either way, it was normal to be a little anxious. Kaiki lowered his hands and gave a deep sigh. Mali didnât like to be kept waiting.
He took a quick trip to the bathroom and checked on his appearance. Heâd gotten dressed an hour ago just to be sure he wouldnât be late, so he just checked his look one last time and poured some water on his face. But his hair wasnât... very right. He grabbed a hair band that was thrown on his desk and tied it in a ponytail. He evaluated his face in the mirror, dark eyes looking back at him. There. Much better.
Kaiki walked down the stairs to find Mali leaning against the doorframe, checking on her phone. He glanced down to the kitchen. Stella was eating some crackers while scribbling something on what he hoped was not the table and his aunt was working on something on her laptop.
âOh, youâre here!â Mali greeted him, putting away the phone on her purse. Her hair was tied neatly into a loose bun with some strands falling in front of her face and she was wearing all black. Kaiki gave her an awkward smile. âJu and Laura are already there. Letâs go.â
He nodded.
âBye, auntie! Weâre gonna get going. Sleep well, Ste.â
He heard her scoffing, the red crayon in hand.
âThatâs not fair. Why do you get to watch a movie with your friends and I have to sleep early today?â
âOnce youâre older and responsible you can, sweetie,â aunt Alice cut in, grabbing a cracker from the jar she was guarding. âYou have to sleep if you want to grow up tall and healthy, you know?â
She rolled her eyes.
Kaiki muffled a giggle.
âSee you later, ms. Alice!â Mali grabbed Kaikiâs arm and led him outside. He rushed behind her.
âI want you home before ten!â
âYes, auntie!â He yelled back.
âOh, wait.â Mali stopped when they reached the sidewalk, a grey siena waiting for them. She mustâve called an Uber.
Mali reached her hands behind his neck, making him lock in place, a chill going down his spine. He kept still and closed his eyes shut by instinct. Thick locks of straight hair falled down his shoulders.
She stepped back.
âThere. Much better. You should wear your hair loose more often, hun.â
âOkay.â He bit back a protest. âCan you give me the band, though?â
âNah,â she put it around her wrist, not looking at him. âWhen we get home I give it back to you. Why, donât you trust me?â
ââCourse I do,â he mumbled. That got a smile out of Mali in return.
When Mali reached out for his hand in the theater, Kaiki drew it away.
Not his brightest moment.
She looked annoyed at him. Kaiki swallowed the ick on his throat and held her hand. Come on, Kai. This is what boyfriends do.
Mali curled her fingers around his much tighter than heâd have wanted.
âI really donât understand this,â Julia, one of Maliâs friends, said out of a sudden. She was holding a popcorn cup and sharing it with Laura, the other one. âThese guys are so stupid. They should kiss already.â
Mali giggled and put her head on his shoulder. She glued her lips in there and left a kiss. Kaiki repressed a shudder. It sent an unpleasant chill down his spine. He looked away.
And then, they started kissing on screen. It was very wet and hushed and the man put his hands on the womanâs face, preventing her from turning away, and she planted her fingers on his back under his shirt and scratched. Kaiki put a hand on his neck, biting his lips. The ghost of a hand traced down his body, all the way down to his belly. He moved his hand away from Maliâs.
Thankfully, she didnât notice.
âI always wondered how itâd be to kiss a boy, you know,â Laura said as soon as they got out of the theater. Kaiki hadnât spoken a word since then, hands in his pockets. He didnât really feel like hanging out anymore.
âArenât you dating that guy that lives two houses away from you, though?â
Laura sighed.
âWeâre not exactly dating. He asked me to give him some âtimeâ.â Laura made quotes in the air. âAlthough itâs been like, weeks.â
âI know how that is,â Mali cut in. She didnât look at Kaiki, but he tensed up a bit. âSome people really like to keep you waiting. But sometimes itâs worth it, I guess.â
âHm,â Laura huffed, scrolling down her phone. Her father was coming to pick her up, so they were all waiting by the parking lot until he did. It had been dark outside for a while, so he was gonna give them a ride. Although Kaiki kind of just wanted to go walking at this point.
âIt canât be that different, though,â Julia wondered out loud.
âWhat?â
âKissing boys, I mean.â
Laura rolled her eyes.
âNot like you would know.â
âWell, you donât, either,â she mocked.
Kaiki watched them snickering at each other, sitting down on the asphalt. He kind of wanted to go to the bathroom. But he wasnât passing very well so heâd rather wait until home. It was getting cold.
âYo, Mali, I think your boy-girlfriend is gonna freeze in there,â Julia said. âShouldnât you give him your jacket or something?â
Kaiki ignored the fact that sheâd called him a girl. Mali rolled her eyes.
âSheâs not a baby, girls. Kai didnât bring in a jacket because he didnât want to. Weâre already leaving, anyway.â
âDamn, I wouldnât want you as a girlfriend,â Laura chuckled. Kaiki sighed. He could jump in and defend her, but he was feeling a little nauseous. He wanted to go home.
âI could be a better girlfriend, yâknow,â she joked. âItâd help me practice for when my prince charming finally decides to answer the call.â
âOh, you wanna try?â Mali asked. âIâm not against it,â she said, sounding the exact opposite of against it. âFriends share.â
âMaria, you gotta stop talking about him as if he was your toy!â
Mali shrugged.
âHey, Kaiki, can I kiss you?â
He shot a glare at Laura. She didnât look like she was kidding anymore. Coily short hair framed her face, curls carefully combed, as her eyes pierced through him.
âSorry?â
âWell, I donât mind,â Mali said, sitting on the ground near Kai. âYou can go on if you want.â
âI donât think Iâm in the mood.â
âCome on, Kai, man up!â She complained. âItâs just an itty bitty smooch. Itâs not like youâll be tangling tongues with each other, entangled into a warm embrace as the moon watches you make love,â Mali theatrically hugged herself, making her friends laugh. Her descriptions grossed him out. âLike that movie, for example,â she teased.
âHere,â Laura said, in between laughter. She walked towards Kaiki, offering him a hand up. He didnât take it. âDonât be like that, goldilocks. I just wanna help you up. My dadâs coming.â
Kaiki hesitantly supported his hands on hers. Laura smiled and held them on her own as she closed her eyes, leaned forward, and pressed her lips on his.
He whimpered, surprised, and squirmed away.
Laura laughed.
âDonât be that scared, dude.â
âIâm not scared,â Kaiki replied, backing up against the wall and hugging his arms. âI just donât want to.â
âSo? How is it?â Julia chimed in. Laura seemed to think for a second. A breeze hit Kaiki and made him quiver.
âNot bad,â she concluded, at last. âBut it was too short, Iâd have to try again to be sure.â
Julia looked up at Kaiki.
His stomach dropped.
âKai, stop making such a fuss. Are you saying sheâs that bad?â Mali scolded from under him, watching something on her phone. âLaura just wants to know what itâs like to kiss a boy.â His mouth filled with dread. He knew what she was gonna say next. âUnless, of course, you ainât nearly as half as a boy as youâve been acting to be. Donât be a pussy.â
He bit his lip, looking away.
Before he knew it, Laura was in front of him again.
âI promise Iâm not that bad,â she giggled, cupping his face in her hands. Breath warm against himâtoo close. He held himself tighter.
She touched her nose with his.
From here, he could see her eyes werenât black like heâd thought. They were of a more auburn hue, the kind you could see the pupils in even if it wasnât particularly sunny. He smelled citric cologne from her. The glittery eyeshadow on her lids glistered when she pulled him into another kiss.
Kaiki wanted to puke.
She tangled her hands on his hair, wet mouth touching his. He closed his eyes, bracing himself. Laura lowered her hands behind his head, absorted. She moaned against his mouth, like the romantic lead in the film they watched.
He pulled away.
Laura opened her eyes, blinking.
âNow that itâs getting good? Really?â She said, disappointed.
He looked away.
âYour dad should be coming any minute now,â he mumbled, in a way of explanation. Kaiki couldnât stand touching her any more. Lauraâs hands still hadnât left his neck.
âWell, Maliâs boy is kinda right,â Julia intervened, holding Lauraâs phone. She was blocking the audio mic, the screen a few inches away from her face as if sheâd been attending a call. âUncle is already in the next street. He told us to get near the Gucci entrance so he can see where we are.â
Laura stepped back, dropping her hands from Kaiâhe let out a sigh of reliefâto see the facade of the nearest store.
âWell. Weâre already at Gucciâs,â she noted. âDamn it, we shouldâve asked him to come over later.â
Mali laughed.
âYou should just get yourself a boyfriend of your own, Laura. Or a girlfriend.â
Laura huffed and crossed her arms.
âJust because my last one broke up with me you canât keep mocking me like that, O Mighty Heart Breaker.â
That also got a laugh out of Mali. Kaiki crouched down next to her. He reached out to her.
âMali, can you give me my phone? I want to tell my aunt weâre coming.â
âI can do that for you,â she dismissed. He dropped his arms. Kaiki didnât mind arguing. He got up. Sheâd taken it to see the timeâdespiste having her own in her purse, which was two seats away in Juliaâs lapâback at the beginning of the movie and hadnât given it to him yet. He walked away from the group with the excuse of seeing the car arrive.
Despiste the hot feeling of hands on his skin just a few moments before, Kaiki still felt cold.
He sat on the opposite seat to Laura on the way back home.
âComing!â Luna yelled when Kaiki knocked on the door. Laura was waiting with her dad in the car, Julia being the first they dropped at her place. Mali had gotten out with him to greet his sister.
But the one who opened up wasnât Luna.
It was Tatiana.
Mali tensed up a little, with an awkward smile on her face. Tati didnât like her, which was kinda funny. And despite being the sweetest person Kaiki knew, his oldest sister had quite the scowl and she easily towered over them both.
âHi, Tatiana,â Mali greeted, a bit nervous. âWe got your siâyour brother sound and safe.â
âI see,â she looked over their shoulders, without much effort. Laura waved at her from the backseat. She didnât wave back. âYou got all your stuff, Kai? You sure you didnât forget anything in the car?â
âYeah, Iââ he interrupted himself, suddenly remembering. His phone and his hair band were still with Mali.
âOh!â Mali smacked her forehead. âI almost forgot. Here, princess.â She took the band from her purseâKaiki hadnât noticed when she put it thereâand handed him his phone as well, the purple case covered by little stickers. The ones sheâd put there. âTo brighten that ugly color a little,â sheâd said.
âThanks.â He turned to get inside.
Mali grabbed his hand before he could.
âCome on, how about my goodbye kiss?â
The nausea came back in full force, swallowing him whole.
Mali frowned.
âYou ainât upset because of before, are you? She was just using you as practice. It wasnât serious.â
He looked away.
She didnât let go.
Trembling, Kaiki turned. He walked down the front step and took the stray curls of her wair out of the way to smooch her forehead.
He let out a breath he didnât know he was holding when it seemed enough for her. She opened up a smile.
âGoodbye!â She loosened her grip on his fingers. âIt was a great time, hun. See ya later!â
Mali got in the car, playfully telling him to be careful so the bugs wouldnât bite his feet. Kaiki waited for it to leave to close the door shut behind him. Tatiana had already gone inside.
He leaned against it and fell to the floor.
He hid his face on his knees.
He needed to take a bath.
Phew! This took me like all day. Next time let's try and make something... shorter. I was planning on doing something quite violent with Dimitri and Nosac instead, but then this idea popped into my head and I was like "I GOTTA do this one" so here it is!
It was a little before sunrise when a young teen passed by the closed grocery store, her hands held carefully close to her chest inside her yellow cape, protected from the cool midnight air. Her hurried figure casted shadows against the orange glow of the streetlights, a few hours away from being turned for the next day.
She had to wake up early on said next day, and had gotten little to no sleep that night. But that wasnât what the teen was worried about. They glanced at both sides of the road. Even though there were nearly no active cars at this hour. But they were nervous. They crossed it.
The teenâs name was Espa. And they were very, very fucked.
Calm down, Espa, they tried telling themself, but that did not stand up much of a chance against the panicked memoriesâthe whip. The cane. The collarâinside her head right now. They tried calming down their raced heartbeat. To no use. She had fucked up royally this time. Ann was going to be so pissed. What was it thinking to act like it was a good idea to sneak out of the quartersâand for what? Bandaging up injuries from the punishment it got itself for putting off duties? Like they werenât gonna take care of her back at the quarters? Ungrateful, ungrateful bratâto go to Ciçaâs?
They breathed in. Itâs okay. They exhaled. You got this, Espa. They breathed in. And breathed out again.
Okay. Okay. It had been bad. It knew that much. Ann would not be happy to know about that. But did she really need toâno. It cut the thought short.
They looked down to their bandaged hands, raising them in front of their cape, carefully wrapped in. Ciça had been so gentle and tolerant with it. They could see she had been incredibly groggy, scrubbing her eyes every few minutes trying to scare the sleepiness away. Well, it had been the middle of the night. An old woman such as herself would probably have already gone to sleep at that hour. For some miracle, she had not. And not only that. She had indulged in Espaâs senseless demands. She hasnât been mad at Espa for coming unnanounced or scaring her outâmaking her almost drop her book out of shockâeven though she had every right to.
They clutched their hand to their chest. It hurt a little. But she didnât mind. It helped clearing its mind a little bit.
If it told Ann it had been sneaking out to see Ciça, it would not be allowed to see her anymore. And Espa knew it was selfish, and bad, and ungrateful, and insensitive to, but they didnât want that. They bit their lip. It was probably better for everyone if it would just stop sneaking out. They would stop being such a hassle for the Ms. Ciça. They would not be breaking the rules anymore. And Ann would never know a thing.
But Ciça was so gentle. EspaâEspa liked her.
Which wasnât very clever of them. They couldnâtâthey couldnât betray their family like that. They cared for it so much and it would lie to them and hide secrets and ignore the rules that kept everyone well and safeâits siblings would not have done that. Not the good onesâThey winced at the image their mind conjured up of a time back when it used to break the rules just because, having been beated to an inch of their life. But not anymore. Now, they knew there was nothing bad or scary to fight, because their family cared for them. Now it wanted to be good. She knew better. She wouldnât do things that would make her familyâand her handlerâfeel hurt. Not anymore.
The sky was starting to light up, fresh morning air invading their nostrils, warm sunlight starting to clean the darkness out of the houses nearby.
Espa stopped in front of oneâ129Bâand entered it by the back door.
---
âWhere were you?â Ann inquired it, as soon as it got in. She had her arms crossed. Her brows were furrowed. Her eyesâdark daggers piercing her right in place. Espa supressed a flinch. Ann could snap at any moment. It would depend on their answer.
âObserbing the sun rise.â Technically not a lie. âI strayed a bit into the eastside because the gardens in there looked prettier in the moonlight.â No use saying they had been nearbyâif Ann had been patrolling around she would have known that was not the case. âIâm sorry.â It added, just for good measure.
Ann sighed and uncrossed her arms, massaging her temple. Espaâs shoulders relaxed just a little.
âDamn it.â She said, voice rough. Was it from lack of water? Maybe tiredness? Espa couldnât know. It hadnât been around to tell. âEspada, you need to stop doing that. Focus on the mission, you,â she gave an accusing glare, clearly pissed. âI thought it was some sort of intruder. You are still gonna give me a headache one of these days.â
A bit of guilt dwelled on Espaâs chest.
âYes, Ms. Ann. Iâm sorry.â It said. âI will do better.â She meant it when she said the last part.
Which is why she kept her mouth shut. Telling Ms Ann the real reason it had been out and about at that hour would only make her even more stressed. She didnât need to know. Yes, it was doing a good thing by shutting up. Besides, Ciça seemed to like their company. Stopping to appear by would only make them worried as well. It just needed to stop appearing in the middle of the night to cause her trouble. Ann gestured at them to follow into her office, still stroking her brow. She could do it. It could do better.
It was a little past midnight when Ciça heard a loud thud coming from the kitchen.
She almost jumped on her feet, but after a few seconds, her skittish heartbeat started calming down again. Gosh, it was really late, for her to get that startled by random cat noises on outside like that. She scrubbed her eyes under the reading glasses and a big yawn made its way out of her mouth.
She had been awake for quite some time now, she thought. It would probably be better to grab her slippers and head to bed. Ciça wetted her finger and turned the next page on her bookâsome of the words started meshing together, making her stop a little longer on a single paragraph to figure out that Gort Taylor found excuses to celibate was supposed to read Cary Taylor found excuses to celebrate. She didnât wanna spend luscious amounts of money on energy bills for staying up late, so she only had a lamp on, casting a weak light on the lenghty description of the royal manor on her pages. It wasnât helping her poor eyesight much, though. She probably should flicker the lights on.
âCiça.â
Again, Ciça nearly fell off her chair with the noise. For the Lord, whoâ
Oh. She gave a faint and wobbly smile. It was Espa, standing near her like an ominous shadow, her coily dark hair barely making a sillouette in the dark. Jesus Christ, how did the girl even sneak into her house? No, no, wait, that wasnât even the question. Why was she here? Did she not have school tomorrow? It was past midnight.
âEspa,â a shaky breath left her lips. God, she was getting old. That kidâs shenigans were probably gonna give her a heart attack at some point. âWhat are you doing here this late? You shouldnât just go out in the middle of the night like this, it is dangerous,â she said. âBesides that, whyââ
She stopped in her tracks when she took sight of the blood dripping from Espaâs hands, tucked protectively over her heart. The kid had a grimace on her face, like she was about to cry.
âOh, no,â she put away her book, not bothering to mark the page she left in. âDear, Esa, what happened?â
Espa took a short, shaky breath and looked away from her. âMy hands. I got them like this. Can I patch them up here?â
But how? Ciça wanted to ask. She couldnât see it much from there, but they looked awful. When did that happen? Was it some sort of accident? Why did Espa come all the way over here instead of taking care of it at home? Unlessâ
âHereâ, she took the kidâs hands into hers, as gently as she could. âLetâs go take care of those in the bathroom, okay? I will grab some neomycin and gauze and be right back, sounds good?â
âYes, Ciça.â Espa answered. Her voice tone was a little off. She must be in quite the pain right now. Jesus, Ciça thought. How could...? She wavered the thought out of her head. First-aid. Where was it, again?
God damn it, she really should start setting up everything for emergencies like this in easier places.
--
She set a little stool she usually used for reaching high shelves over the bathroom tiles and sat Espa on it. The light was on, now, allowing Ciça to take a better look at the girlâs injuries.
Espa held them out over the sink, where they washed most of the blood. It mustâve stinged a little, but she didnât even wince. Ciça applied some pomade on her skinned knuckles and palmsâshe cringed herself at the thought of what could have possibly caused this. A belt?âand started bandaging up her hands.
âWhen did they got hurt?â She asked. Hopefully it hasnât been for long, but either way, the old pomade for infections and cuts, that luckly was not expired, would do its job.
âAround two hours before I got in your house.â She seemed to sense Ciçaâs wide-eyed shock, quickly adding: âIt hurt so I had to lay down first. Sorry.â
âNo, no, Iâm not mad at you!â Ciça hushed to say, maybe a bit too loud. âItâs fine, you are here, and your hands are bandaged now. See?â She let off Espaâs fingers and admired her work. âIs it uncomfortable? Is the pain wearing off at all?â
âA little. Not as bad as it was before,â she said in a tiny voice. âThank you, Ciça.â
She smiled.
âYouâre welcome. Do you want to stay the night in here? Would it be safe for you?â
âI will head back,â Espa answered, after a small pause. âIâm expected at five tomorrow.â Ciça nodded, a little bit of dread on her gut. Five? She would barely get a four hourâs sleep at this rate.
âI see. Well,â Ciça got up and picked up the supplies from the balcony to get them back to the little white box. Which she would probably put in the laundry room from now on, instead of tangled up with tool boxes and old fabric on the spare closet. âCould I make you some tea, then? It wonât last long. To help you fall asleep.â
Espaâs eyes opened a bit wide at that. Her shoulders relaxed, and she took a bit to answer.
Espada, named after a weapon, wasn't raised to be much more than one. They kill when they're told to kill, she fights when she's told to fight. Little it knows, it's not staying in that life for much longer.

The venom being shot by Sabreâs eyes shut his mouth up.
Justeâs smile faltered a bit. He looked down to his weapon, fever high and breathing heavy, sitting on the carpet, his usual uniform replaced by a simple longsleeved shirt, two times his size. He looked exactly as bummed as he always did, except that right now, his eyes were tired and unfocused and his cheeks were sickly red.
âSorry, sorry, Iâll stop.â He raised his arms in defeat, sighing. Sabre was usually a little more patient and docile than this. The boy had earned himself a few lashes. Juste had been trying to sugarcoat it, since he was having it rough, but Sabre easily catched on him. He had that âget it over with alreadyâ look he had when he got himself in trouble, and Juste had to do his part and be stern. Was he not, Xander and Ann would probably pair up to make fun of him forever.
And Sabre had fucked up pretty badly this time. Which was a bit odd for him, to be honest. But that wouldnât give him a pass. He had to face consequences for his actions.
After all, heâd tried firing his own gun at him.
âOkayâ Juste said, giving in. âLetâs get this done, then!â He slapped his thighs and got up from the sofa, passing through the clouded amount of sunlight peeking through the glass window to open the door. He looked over at Sabre, kinda asking if he wanted help, but he ignored Juste and clumsily got himself up, managing not to trip over his own feet to follow him downstairs. Juste raised his eyebrows, impressed. Sure, it wasnât like Sabre had been that sick, but he was also probably a little weak from having been deprived of his lunch. A small part of the punishment that was to come from his little outburst yesterday.
When they got in the basement, Sabre, holding his whimpers inside (although not managing very well), leaned against the cold stone wall. He must be feeling really hot. Sabre had gotten himself a little infection (also after defying orders and hiding on his quarters instead of presenting up to have his cuts treated), and it should go away after he was given his meds, but that alone wasnât enough of a lesson for his misbehaving.
Juste stumbled around for a bit on the closetsâthey were settled on a little house management had arranged for them, near the main quarters, and he wasnât used to the way the servants here arranged the stuff. He opened a few drawers, finding pokers (oh, he should use those anytime), a few keys (unlabelled. Of course. His eye twitched), and a bit of... what he hoped was for self-pleasure purposes? Ew. He tossed them away.
After a while, Sabre seemed to be fed up of standing on his feet just watching Juste miserably search through the amount of messy junk, and walked towards him, shoving a few doors open and quickly finding the whip. There were a few, actually, and his fingers hesitated for a second before picking up the plainest one.
Wow, okay, that was fast. Juste didnât wallow on the unfairness of karma for long before Sabre handed the tool to him, annoyed, and supporting himself on the wooden desk.
He was keeping his lips closed tight.
Juste picked the whip from his hands.
âReally? You think you are going to get a pass off the thorns just âcoz youâve gotten yourself sick?â He joked.
Sabre tried to hide a weak flinch, but Juste caught it up. He laughed.
âIâm kidding. I want you back on your feet soon, sillyâ He pinched his cheek fondly and Sabre squirmed away.
âMr. Juste, please do not.â His hand trembled as he got off his support to the middle of the room. âJust get this over with. Iâm tired and want to sleep.â
Juste bit back a response, and reached out to him. âHereâ, he offered. âLet me help.â
Sabre must be really a bit tired, because Juste just needed to put his hand over his chest and he immediately leaned onto the help. He probably didnât even notice it.
He was going to offer to help take the shirt off, too, but Sabre was already undressing, yanking it out over his head, not even trying to open the buttons. Whoa, okay, then. Juste looked down to his scarred back, turned to him and kneeling on the floor, and weighted the new whip on his hands.
âLetâs see. Iâd usually give you a ten? But since you obviously regret what you did,â he didnât miss the little twitch on Sabreâs arms, as if itching to disagree. Okay, he was gonna pretend he didnât see that. Ouch. âAnd youâre also not in your best shape, letâs do just fiveâno, three; what do you think?â
Sabre nodded.
âOkayâ, Juste crouched down and gave a little squeeze on Sabreâs shoulder, making him tense up. He got up and took a breath, raising his arm up.
He hit.
--
Sabreâs head was pounding. Waves of pain pulsed from inside out and he could barely think, lest stand up on his own. He wasnât even sure how heâd managed to come all the way down the stairs, feeling so wobbly he could easily fall down at any minute. He curled his fists tighter on top of his legs. They wouldnât stop trembling from the chills.
And yetâand yet, heâd earned himself âthreeâ lashes. (They were ten, actually, but he wasnât gonna complain) Why had he done that? Just because Espa hadâhad fled away? Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes. Ran off and left him? He hadnât wanted to believe, at first. She was his favorite sibling. She was one of the few that could keep up with him. She was always well-behaved, and all the handlers liked her. She would never do something as reckless and stupid and selfish as that.
But she did. Unless that was some filthy lie he was being told to cover up that she was maybe dead. A bitter laugh almost left his lips before he caught it. He breathed in deep.
Juste gave his shoulder a little squeeze, out of nowhere and catching him by surprise. He grit his teeth. Sabre hated being sick. He could never see anything coming and he was weak, and pathetic, and useless, and everything hurt more, and heâd always slip up, and do something heâd regret, and be mouthy, andâ
Breathe. He told himself. As he made himself inhale and exhale, shakily, the whip came down on his back.
He did not scream.
A gasp made its way out of his mouth, and he tried to force his vision to focus and his breathing to even up. Sabre curled up on himself. He would take it. It was okay. Breathe in. Breathe out. Sabre shakily straightened his posture.
The whip didnât waste another second and beat him again. A tight whimper came out of his mouth. His chest wavered, and he clenched his fists. He had almost bitten his tongue. God, the fever was making him clumsy. He closed his mouth with care so he wouldnât hurt himself on accident. It was just one more. That was actually pretty light. Sometimes Juste was indeed kind of nice. If it was with someone else, like Mr. X, heâd already be bleeding on the floor, without even strength to kneel.
Juste hit again.
His vision spun. He screamed just a bit.
Sabre let himself fall on the floor, his back on fire. Hotter than the rest of his body was. He didnât even notice the headache anymore. It stung and hurt like a bitch, but it was okay. He was okay. It was done now at leaâ
Crack.
He screamed for real this time.
F-four? Couldnât be. Unless Juste was messing with him. Or he counted wrong, his stupid brain trying to make him feel some relief in spite of reality. He hadnât prepared himself. He tasted blood on his mouth. Shit. His eyes ached, and he didnât know if the wet and sticky feeling on his back was sweat or blood. His chest shakily went up and down as he stretched his palms on the floor, trying to work himself up.
Crack.
Sabreâs vision went white. Noâit couldnât. Juste could only be messing with him. But now it had been five. He was probably done now, and had done that just to teach him a lesson. He couldnât stop shaking, but he tried getting up again. Maybe Juste would help him get up? He was a little weaker than he anticipated.
âThat was three.â He heard the low voice coming from behind him.
That was what? Sabre shot a glance over his shoulder. Juste was standing over with the handle of the whip on one hand, the other one resting against his waist. Sabreâs neck hurt from turning like this. Sweat dripped down his brow. The whip rested still as a predatory snake hanging from his hand, Justeâs face expectant.
He crouched down. Fine. So be it. That couldnât have actually been three. He was definitely trying to mess with him.
âSorry, Sabre,â he admitted. âI do indeed have to give you more than three. I canât go easy on you, yâknow? You wonât learn if I do; itâs for both our goods.â
If he had the strength to, heâd roll his eyes.
Sabre looked forward and closed his mouth, shadows wavering in front of his eyes.
Wait. But it had been five already, hadnât it...?
Crack.
This time, Sabreâs back arched, a strangled scream coming out of his throat before he could stop it. He was panting hard by the time his mind cleared enough to see where his hands were. The air coming in and out of his lungs didnât offer much relief. It was too hot.
He tried looking back at Juste again, but he winced and closed his eyes shut. Pain flared through his muscles.Â
âFour,â he heard Juste count behind him. His mind was too sluggish to know if that was true or what. How many were still left...?
Justeâs hand was not light when the whip cracked against his back again, not one, but two times. Three? He couldnât keep track anymore. He was sure his handler had counted four just a few ago, but he didnât know for how far he intended on keeping going.
The sting took a little longer to leave his back than the whip did. His vision took even longer to come back. He did not know how many lashes were left. He should keep himself still, kneeling, but he couldnâtâhe pantedâhe just wanted to lay down. Please be done already. Please.
âThat was six.â Juste said from over him. Sabre didnât have the strength or the willingness to send a glare his way. Six? That had been double what heâd said. His face burnt, more with shame than with fever this time. Of course, he thought, frustrated. Mr. Juste didnât need to be honest with him. He bit his lip.
Juste kneeled down on his side and brushed a wet strand of hair from his face.
âThere. Just six. It wonât be any more, okay? That was it. You did good,â he smiled. âWe can go back up now.â
He was probably waiting for an answer. Sabre opened his mouth a bit, turning his head to the side to face him, but all that left his throat was a hoarse croak. (Fuck, had he really screamed that much? He was such a pussy when he was sick). Juste smiled encouragingly. That made Sabre even more irritated. He felt his eyes getting wet from irritation.
âYes, sir.â He managed to make out, weakly, making his throat hurt. Juste giggled.
âThere, Sabre,â he put his arms under Sabreâs, supporting his legs up and carrying him bridal. âYou did good. Letâs treat those before you get yourself another infection, hm?â
ââMâIâm sorry.â He whined, closing his eyes. His back burned, his head hurt, and he felt nauseous and hot and cold at the same time. All because heâd been too stubborn to just be smart and do as he was told. He was so glad they were done. God, he hated being sick.
âI know,â Juste smiled.
As Juste lifted him up the stairs onto the bathroom after cleaning up his backâand palms, which he apparently dug his nails into at some pointâ, Sabre was one step away from fainting from both tiredness and pain. But he kept awake. He was carried into the bathroom, and Juste was humming some stupid and ugly song as he grabbed the gauze and cleaning stuff heâd use for his lashes.
His six. Six lashes. That had not been three. He groaned.
âHuh?â Juste turned to him at the sound. Sabre flinched. But he wasnât mad. He was just curious. Oh. He held on his hand a piece of soft and white...something. He could barely see.
Sabre pressed his head to the cold tile wall.
âPlease, stop lying, mr. Juste.â
Juste seemed caught by surprise, and then chuckled.
âOf course, Sabre.â He petted his hair, which was not very comfortable for Sabre. Now that his back wasnât gnawing at him anymore, his headache had come back. He winced, but didnât have the strength to turn away. âYouâre my favorite, after all.â

Also unrelated but I was listening to this song on loop while I was writing this:
Fennice scrubbed her eyes. Stupid eyes that were fighting her by trying to get wet.
âYeah,â it croaked out to Ade, her light ginger hair falling over her face, looking down at it. She seemed worried. It turned its eyes to its shoes. She was okay. It was not like she was hurt. Or tired. Or upset. Or had a reason to be upset.
Her trembling breathing didnât seem to agree with her.
A hiccup got caught in Fenniceâs throat.
Her vision started getting blurry again, so she lifted up the back of her hand to dry her tears. Fennice heard Adelia sitting down next to it against the couch. âWhat happened?â
Fennice hid her face in her knees. âI donât know.â It shouldnât be upset. They all had just come back from a mission and were promptly rewarded with a good amount of money, so after getting groceries, she had used the spare pounds to get a blue coat she had been eyeing for a while on the store next street, that was so cute. She had wanted it forever. Or just for... a few months.
Which pretty much sumed up what âforeverâ was to her.
She sobbed, and Ade patted her back, trying to be comforting.
She was so pathetic. She had no reason to be upset, but still, here she was, holding back tears while being held by their leader. Their leader, which was all she knew. Her leader and the Shadows. Just them four. It was everything Fennice had. It was everything it was. And she couldnât help but wonderâwhat had she been before? Had she even been something? Did she have another name? What was it? When was her birthday? Did she like celebrating her birhtday? With who? A big, dark feeling started growing in Fenniceâs chest, threatening to leak out.
And it was like that because it didnât know.
It didnât know who it was. Pamela, for example, knew where sheâd come from. Ade knew all the choices sheâd made that led her to the White Shadows. Lilah remembered exactly where and how she had gotten every one of her scars.
But not Fennice. She didnât know where the large scars on her left shin were from. She didnât know if sheâd had a family before. She didnât know why she spoke how she spoke and why she knew what she knew. It didnât know if it had ever had a pet. It didnât know if it went to highschool. Had she been a dropout? Had she been a diligent student? A lousy one? Did she have any friends? Any regrets? Any happy memories?
Fennice couldnât stop the tears from falling down her face anymore. It shouldnât, but it hurt. The sobs leaving her mouth made her shake from inside, and not even Adeâs warm and familar hand on her shoulders could stop it.
She missed something so badly. She missed herself. She missed a big chunk inside her where her historyâher past mistakes, her woes, her childhood memories and all the relationships past her wouldâve hadâshould be, and it turned her to shreds to not even know what she was missing.
It was not like it was nobody, now. Sure. It was Fennice. Fennice White. She was the companion of Ade, Pam and Lilah. Her favorite color was blue. She liked pretty dresses and also casual tank tops. She spoke English and Portuguese, both with a weird accent, for some reason. She wasnât very good with long weapons and preferred daggers she could get close with or throw. She wasnât a fan of reading, but she liked listening to Pamela ramble on about the latest novel sheâd read and all the twists it had and how she was shocked when who-and-who died. It was somewhere around sixteen and nineteen years old. It didnât like mint ice cream.
But that was not it. It knew it was not just it. She curled up tighter.
CW: Blood, fainting, minor character death mentioned.

Alisson wasnât much of a fighter.
No, unlike Ceres who had an eerie and insane amount of control over her link and every ability she absorbed, or Yuri, who had the grace of a dancer and could get by pretty well on his own, her parents had only put her in maybe one or two classes of self-defence a few years ago.
But apparently, adrenaline was one hell of a drug.
She breathed out, forcing the air to come in and out of her lungs. Her arm had been hit. She winced and shielded it with a hand. Alissonâs vision was swaying, and she felt like her legs would give out at any moment. She couldnât see much ahead.
âAlisson!â Someone screamed from afar. Alisson knew that voice. Meine yelled something else, and she tried to make out what his words were, but to no use. It was all static in her ears. Her breath came out like steam from her mouth. Everything around was frozen. She felt chills.
In a few moments, Meine was in front of her.
âAlisson,â she made out, his voice strangled and eyes worried. He grabbed her shoulders, and for a moment Alisson wondered whyâwhen she realized she had fallen forward.Â
The warmth of his chest felt good.
âAre you hurt?â He asked, looking like he was about to cry. He didnât ask if she was okay. Meine always knew the answer so he never had to ask.
Alisson tried to answer. But her mouth suddenly felt too heavy, and she couldnât get any words out. Black spots danced on her eyes. She looked up to Meine again, watching as he faded out of her vision.
The tiredness washed over her body, and in a second, Alisson was out like a light.

Dimitri just needed to get to their room.
They panted, leaning against the wall in an effort not to fall. A shot of pain flared up from their waist, making them wince. She reached out a hand to cover it, but the contact made it sting. Dimitri grit her teeth and continued walking. It was fine. It just needed to get to theirâ
He was caught off guard by Nosac sitting in the living room. Dimitriâs foot took a step back before it could think. Too late.
Nosac looked over his shoulder, taking his gaze off a magazine. Dimitri froze up in place, heart beating hard against her chest.
âYou got yourself hurt?â He asked, disinterested. Dimitri gulped and looked downâwhich was a mistake. The floor swayed under his feet and he barely caught himself on the wall again. Blood dripped to the pristine white tiles. His master would be so mad.
â...Y-yes,â she said, still avoiding his gaze. She was so stupid. It had not been that hardâshe had just needed to get a piece of data from a pen-drive and get it to Master, but she had fallen into an ambush, and was too slow to react, and they got an ice blade to her side, and it hurt, and if she wasnât so useless, thenâ
A hand cupped his face before he could notice. Dimitri looked up, suppressing a sob.
Nosac was looking down at them, his magazine forgotten on the jade green couch.
âWhy are you not at the bay?â
Dimitri didnât know. He just wanted to be alone. They had killed someone again. And she knew she should report every time, so that her master could go and clean up her messâbut she just... she just needed to go sleep for a minute. Dimitri didnât want to go down the medical bay. His room was more important. He needed Lola.
Dimitriâs vision started to fade. His legs gave out under him.
The last thing he felt were Nosacâs arms grabbing it and his voice making a disappointed, tired, tsk.
It didnât have time to feel ashamed before it passed out.

This week, we're going to get to know @cepheusgalaxy's writing and characters!!
How long have you been writing, and what inspired you to begin?Â
I think for maybe two years, although not very constantly. The first time I ever wrote something was in kindergarden when my teacher assigned us to write a small book lmao. After that I got really excited and picked it up, but didn't write for quite the timeskip after
What is your preferred genre to write?Â
Fantasy! Always. And whump.
What does the writing process look like for you?
I like to plan out the setting and define a few key details before getting to actually writing. Character appearences, overall direction of the plot, how does the magic work, that sort of thing.
When it comes to the actual writing part, I usually lay down the whole thing as I want it, in one or a few days, and then edit and rework it a few times, putting it through a grammar check in the end. Although I sometimes forget the grammar check.
What is the best piece of writing advice you've received?
That no idea is original. You don't need to make sure yours is, because what makes it especial is that YOU did it, not that it's never been done before.
Thank you to @cepheusgalaxy for participating this week, and I can't wait to get into your writing!
What is the best piece of writing advice you've received?
Consolidate. You want things to be as coherent and connected as possible. Apologies to several âsubplotsâ that were really separate stories but they were taking up valuable time and space and energy.
What is the best part of writing for you?Â
I love when I just get in the flow and I can be creative and it all feels so good and smooth.
What is one piece of advice you'd give to a new writer?Â
Read Mythcreants.com!
Again, thank you for sharing your work and your thoughts with us!
