Carter had reached a deal with newly-elected Iranian President Abdolhassan Bani-Sadr over the release of the fifty-two hostages held by radical students at the American Embassy in Tehran. In fact Bani-Sadr had openly campaigned for releasing the hostages.

Arizona GOP used old Margaret Cho sitcom photo to represent Asian Americans - UPDATED AUGUST 23, 2017 AT 2:08AM EDT

In 1994, comedian Margaret Cho brought an Asian-American family to network television with her short-lived sitcom All-American Girl. Twenty-three years later, the Arizona GOP used a photo of the show’s fictional Kim clan to illustrate the organization’s support of Asian-Americans.

As reported by Vice News, the Arizona Republican Party website recently featured a page dedicated to Asian-Americans that prominently featured a promotional still from All-American Girl, presumably mistaking it for a photo of a real family, or at least a standard stock photo.

According to a cached version of the page, it stated that “Republicans believe strongly in equal rights and we strive to ensure we are creating a better future for our families and the next generations.”

The photo faux pas would seem to be compounded by the fact that Cho has been a vocal critic of the GOP in the past. Last year she called the party “a nightmare” and said that Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (both presidential hopefuls at the time) were “appealing to people’s phobias, their ignorance, and it’s appalling to watch.”

Torunn Sinclair, communications director for the Arizona Republican Party, said in a statement to EW, “As soon as this was brought to our attention, the page was taken down. This was obviously a mistake, and we apologize.”
