There was shuffling. The sound of leaves being pushed to the side and being stepped on.
The sun had set, and it was now around dusk. He had originally planned to simply come out to the woods to collect some herbs and be back before the afternoon, but it appeared he had gotten lost along the way, leaving him completely stranded.
He had been walking for a while at this point, starting to get worn out from all the searching he had done to try and make his way back home. It was starting to seem like he wouldn’t have any luck, though. Especially with it getting dark outside, making it impossible to navigate.
…that was until he saw something in the distance. Light.
Light from what seemed to be some sort of cabin in the far distance.
Polite let out a sigh of relief he didn’t know he was holding in, hurrying his way over to the direction of the cabin.
Once he had gotten to the front of the cabin, he walked up the steps, reaching a hand out and knocking on the front door. He hoped someone would answer.
After a few moments of silence, someone opened to door. It appeared to be a fairly stocky man with heavy amounts of body hair. He had his eyes covered with goggles, though had no glove like an engineer normally would. He seemed friendly, though he had a slight sway to his stance. The soft clink of a bottle of alcohol sung from behind the door.
"Oh, Hello." The man seemed friendly. "How are ya, boy? You lost?" He held out a hand for Polite to shake.
Polite gladly took the man’s hand, giving it a good shake before he pulled back. His hands were clasped in front of himself in a polite manner.
“Hello there, my friend! I am afraid that I am…I was trying to figure out the way out of the forest, but it seems as if it’s going to be night time at any moment now.”
“I will not be able to make my way back in the dark, so if it is not too much trouble, may I be able to spend the night?”
“If not, that is alright.”
"Oh, 'a course, boy! An old man like me is much too lonely in these 'ere woods t' reject company. Cmon in!" The unnamed man stepped aside, holding the door to his house open, "Sorry 'bout th' mess, I ain't gotten round ta cleaning the durned thing.. Lots of years 'a mess and one man my age clean it too well."
Just opening the door, a wave of an unreadably pungent smell hit Polite's face. From what he could decipher, it smelled like rotting meat, dust, alcohol, cigarette smoke, and something like piss, though it was debatable if those were actually in the house. The hardwood floor of the room Polite had saw first seemed to have a thick layer of.... something.. completely covering the most walked in areas, tinting it a dark brown. It most likely used to be a lighter, orangey color. Looking past the photos and animal pelt on the wall to his left, Polite's eyes locked onto the many animal hide's up on the wall. There were even bones strung from the ceiling in some places.

“There’s no trouble at all, my friend.”
He reassured, as he stepped into the house.
He was immediately hit with that pungent smell, although he wasn’t too put off by it considering that he was friends with someone like Painis. You tend to get used to these kinds of things.
“What lovely decor you have…I have never seen anything like it! Do you do it all yourself? If so I must say that it is quite impressive.”
“Especially all the different animal pelts.”
He gave a warm smile, before he stopped in the middle of the entry room.
“I can sleep on the couch if you’d like. I would not want to intrude more than I already am…”
"Why thank ya! You are a kind young man, if ah do say so m'self. I make 'em by hand-- it's a hobby a' mine. I 'ave a couple ah boxes outside full a' rottin bones ah' have left ova from gettin' the meat offa em. Try t' use as much as possible." The man chuckled before continuing, "And it ain't no problem! Ah' actually 'ave a perfectly good ole guest room upstairs-- just stay outa the rooms that aint yers up there, got it?" He paused, expression momentarily turning serious. "Besides the rest'rum. Don't care if ya' use it."
The man had to slam the door shut with his full body to close it, as it was obviously broken. He then locked it; not with a key, but with a deadbolt that could easily be undone. Probably just to keep the damned thing shut. He appeared next to Polite a moment later, a smile on his face.
"Neva' caught'cha name, boy. M' name is Dale." Dale grinned, a friendly aura radiating off of him. He seemed to be a nice man, despite the.. odd house decor. "Would ya like a home tour real quick befer' ah show ya yer room?"
