Hello there everyone! Call me Saint. This is mainly just a blog to document Clangen happenings and stuff and while the current focus is WreckClan, you may see other Clans pop up here from time to time as well and will be tagged appropriately.
Just some notes:
All tagged content will be tagged as '[warning] cw'
Medicine cats are referred to as 'herbalists' here
This is mostly just me fooling around and I can't promise consistent updates since this is mostly a writing-based blog meaning more short snippets and stuff, but I'll try
Inspired by various Clangen blogs out there. Hello!
Smaller happenings in the Clan will be put in separate posts!

rushpaw going out on his very first patrol ever and immediately being exposed to death for the first time. sorry kid you're getting the main character treatment
Fireshimmer takes Oriolepaw out to gather herbs, letting Oriolepaw take the lead to test his knowledge.
âAlright, so letâs look forâŚgoldenrod. No, I mean, betony. How much betony do we have in our stores? Um, ragwort! Raspberry!â
Fireshimmer patiently waits as she watches Oriolepaw pace back and forth, muttering to himself beside her. After a few moments, she lifts her tail and puts it out to stop him as he nearly walks right into it. âWell,â she says, âany herb helps. Weâre not in any real hurry, so take it easy, little guy.â
âBut what about Grouseshadow?â Oriolepaw asks, lashing his tail. âDoesnât he need elder leaves for his sprain?â
âItâll certainly be helpful if you can find any. But heâs not going to die of a sprain anytime soon, trust me,â Fireshimmer says. âMost cats donât die of sprains, I would know.â She moves past him then, and pointed her nose in one direction. âBut if you need a place to start, why not try looking over there first?â
âDo you know somethingâs there?â Oriolepaw asks. âCan you feel it?â
âFeel what?â Fireshimmer asks.
âThe herbs,â he says. He pads past her, pinning his eyes onto the distance. âDo they call to you? Is a StarClan cat whispering in your ear right now guiding you to where it is?â
âYour faith is commendable,â Fireshimmer says, âbut StarClanâs given you a nose, ears, and eyes for a reason.â
âSo I could receive their messages.â
âSo you could track down the herbs on your own,â Fireshimmer says. âIâm sure that StarClan cats canât be there with you all the time, my shells of power told me.â She watches confusion flicker over Oriolepawâs eyes before she continues on. âSo trust yourself first to identify and find the herbs that you need. Youâll be fine.â
Oriolepaw is silent for a moment before he nods slowly. âAlright.â He sighs. âAlright.â And with that, he tastes the air and tries to listen for the sound of leaves rustling together for any herbs that they could bring back. He closes his eyes for a moment, opens them again, sniffs the air one more time, then he moves forward.
Fireshimmerâs steps are so quiet behind his that he almost forgets that sheâs there until she brushes up against them. âWhoa there, dude, you almost got it,â she says. âBut look behind you.â
Oriolepaw pauses and looks over his shoulder, and sure enough, there it isâthyme.
He gathers it in the way heâs felt heâs practiced hundreds of times and as Fireshimmer does the same, she smiles at him. âYou really got it, you know. Can you tell me what that smelled like?â
âItâsâŚvery earthy. Very strong, pungent,â Oriolepaw says.
âGood. What does it look like?â
âIt sort of has like a woody stem on it?â Oriolepaw flicks the tip of his tail in thought. âAnd its leaves are very small and very green.â
âGood, just like you,â Fireshimmer says. Before Oriolepaw could ask what that means, she continues on, âNow letâs gather these and see if we can find anything else to bring back to camp. And this time, letâs try not to walk right past it, okay? After this is done, Iâll share that juicy octopus I saw with you.â
Willowchest knows that Stormstar and Puddledawn had wanted to mentor Rimepaw at first, and Stormstar was especially insistent that he get his first apprentice (yet another reason why Stormstarâs leadership is so unusual). And to prevent any further argument between her leader and deputy, Willowchest had swooped in at the last second and, being the big hero she is, dramatically declared that she will be Rimepawâs mentor!
And then left without giving either of them the chance to argue.
Well, itâs nice to know that at least someone can appreciate her theatrics.
Now Willowchest is asking herself what she was thinking as she takes Rimepaw out to gather moss, and the younger mollyâs paws are stamping against the ground as she reluctantly follows her. âBut canât we do something moreâŚI donât know, exciting?â Rimepaw asks, her tail drooping low. âLike practicing hunting and seeing who can catch the most amount of prey before the sun sets! Or beating each other upâwithout claws, of course. Or putting a thorn in Baysplashâs nest. Or collecting bugs! Why gathering moss?â
âFirst of all, I already thorned Baysplashâs nest a few days ago,â Willowchest says. âSecond of all, I think youâve already got enough dead bugs in your nest. Third of all, this will really help if you do it consistently. I mean, I get it, I get it, gathering moss isnât the most exhilarating thing to do in the world but does everything have to be? This is only moss-tly harmless, after all.â
Rimepaw flicks some dirt onto Willowchestâs snout.
âOkay,â Willowchest coughs. âNot my best, Iâll admit. But I promise that gathering moss is going to help build up some strong muscles and make you the best warrior that you canâhey, whereâre you going? You know, if you fail to gather all the moss all of it is just going to clump together and create the Mossster! You donât want any Mosssters lurking around in our beaches, do you?â
Huh. Did the Mossster only ever work on me?
No matter what Willowchest does, however, she canât quite get Rimepaw to take it seriously. And by the next morning after Rimepawâs received a thorough scolding from Puddledawn, Willowchest finds her waiting by the fresh-kill pile. Willowchest approaches Rimepaw again, raising her chin slightly. âAlright, well, I hope that youâre ready to learn again today, otherwise Stormstar might just put both of us on moss duty for the next moon. And trust me, you donât want to hear what either Puddledawn or Baysplash would have to say about thatâstuff of nightmares, you hear me?â
âItâs not that bad, is it?â Rimepaw asks, tilting her head.
âThat depends, do you consider smug looks and condescending mews âthat bad?ââ Willowchest retorts, lashing her tail. âNobody likes a stuffynose, alright? They fill your ears with dust and make you sneeze on it.â
âWhat?â
âNow come on,â Willowchest says. She sighs, and lowers her voice this time. âLook, we can do something more exciting this time, okay? Iâll even let you catch the biggest, fattest fish in the oceanâŚso long as you donât challenge me. Then Iâd catch something even bigger, but when has a little competition ever hurt anyone? Butâno, I should focus on teaching you. SoâŚcan we at least try to work together today? So we can both learn things from each other.â
Plus, sheâd look ridiculous if that whole dramatic mini speech she made to Stormstar about being âthe best possible mentor for Rimepawâ would go to waste.
Still, what she said is enough to make Rimepaw nod her head tentatively, her blue eyes deepening with contemplation. âAlright,â Rimepaw finally says. âIâll try harder this time. Sorry, about, uhâŚyesterday. I just thought Iâd do something moreââ
ââDramatic?â Willowchest purrs. âTotally representative of all your future potential at once? Yeah, I get it. But letâs just start with small bites at that fish for now, okay? Iâll teach you how to hunt and use your claws and teeth for things other than nagging at other catsâwhich is also a very useful skill!âand then we can hold all the hunting competitions we want. I canât promise that youâll win many of them, though.â
âOkay, I get it,â Rimepaw says, her voice hardeningânot out of hostility, but out of eagerness. âFine! Show me how to fish then and Iâll catch anything better than you can!â
Well, thatâs done it.
As Willowchest and Rimepaw playfully bicker with each other on their way out of camp, Willowchest starts feeling a little better about her impulsive decision to mentor Rimepaw. She can see all the potential in her now.

- Stormstar wants to spend more time with Puddledawn!
- Puddledawn thinks Stormstar isn't very considerate.
- Fireshimmer takes Puddledawn and Stormstar out to gather some betony.
âOur first little patrol as the three most important cats in our Clan, alright?â Stormstar says as he bounds ahead of Fireshimmer.
âHey, Iâm the one leading the patrol,â Fireshimmer says with a flick of her ear.
âOkay, fine.â Stormstar falls back until heâs walking only slightly behind Fireshimmer and Puddledawn. âBut look! Weâre bonding now! Weâre spending some quality time together while also gathering some very useful herbs for the Clan! I want a certain someone to be listening to this, AHEM AHEM, Puddledawn.â
âAlright, I get it,â Puddledawn says. Heâs not very happy, but he doesnât actually hate the current arrangement. Just wishes that Stormstar gave him more prior warning that theyâll be doing this together before jumping right into it. âSo what are we talking about now toâŚget going, on getting to know each other? And I want to bring something back for Lilackit too.â
âYouâll find something for her, donât worry,â Fireshimmer says. âIâve found the most fascinating snail while I was wandering around here one day. Do you think she likes snails?â
âShe likes them but wouldnât ever want to touch one, no,â Puddledawn says.
âThen maybe sheâd like more shells,â Stormstar says. âOf the non-snail variety.â
âI think sheâs already had enough shells,â Puddledawn sighs. âHer nest is nearly overflowing with them at this point.â
âSpeaking of shells,â Fireshimmer says, her tail lashing slowly from side to side as she pads ahead of them. She lifts her nose into the air and sniffs, and while she does so she says, âSorryâthought I smelled some herbs. Over there, Iâll show you how to harvest themâbut anyway, speaking of shells, I really want to talk about my perfect little shells of power. I keep them around the den and they give off these âenergies.â Have you felt them before?â
Puddledawn is hesitant as he follows her, watching as she sniffs at the herbs. âI donât think I ever have,â he admits. He really doesnât want to come across as rude to Fireshimmer, butâŚ
âI have,â Stormstar cuts in. âItâs so obvious, itâs like it hits you as soon as you walk in, andââ He rambles on, and meanwhile Fireshimmer tracks down the herbs she was looking for. She wonders how long she could convince them that she actually does believe in these things.
Stormstar calls a clan meeting to give an important announcement.
âPicture a mouse thatâs died,â Stormstar says. He looks out over the Clan, from the weariness of Baysplash and Puddledawn to the more relaxed contentment of Fireshimmer. And wherever Willowchest is, anyway. âPicture, if you will, a mouse that has attempted to survive at all costs but just couldnât bear the weight of the stars upon itself.â
âNow!â Stormstar continues. âImagine what itâs like not being the mouseâI mean, being the mouse who survived, or not being a mouse at allâno, right, the mouse. In a world thatâs all against you, a world that has tried its hardest to keep you down, you have triumphed!â A smirk twitches at the corners of Stormstarâs mouth, and he purrs as he gently nudges a few shells toward Rimekitâs direction.
âSo with that being said, Iâm celebrating one moon with me as leader by handing out storm shells for everybody!â Stormstar reveals the rest of the shells that heâs been sitting on. âCome on forward, everyone! And be sure to thank your leader, but remember that our survival as a Clan wouldnât be possible without you.â
Fireshimmer comes forward, a little sparkle in her eye as she leans down to pick out a âstorm shellâ for herself. âItâs a nice effort, you know,â she says. She moves out of the way slightly as Rimekit and Lilackit begin to poke around the pile, bickering with each other over it.
âYou really think so?â Stormstar asks quietly. âPuddledawn tried to shut the idea down the whole time.â
She hums, picks out a shell, and then beckons him to come follow her, which he does. âI just think itâs a decent way of trying to keep the Clan together, gathering all these shells yourself,â Fireshimmer says. âBut then again, I am a newcomer here, so what do I know about it?â Her eyes twinkle again. âBesides, itâs much easier getting you to gather all my âshells of powerâ so I donât have to.â
âAre you saying youâre only using me for shell collection?â Stormstar asks, half-amused and half-offended.
âWell, Iâm not saying itâs the only thing youâre good for,â Fireshimmer says. âAnd Iâm sure Puddledawn will come around to you soonâand you to him. We kind of need that for a functioning group, donât we?â
âYeah, thatâs why I want to spend more time with him,â Stormstar huffs. His ears raise as he nods slowly to himself. âThough, I do have one ideaâŚâ
The first thing that Stormchaser does when he approaches the Moonfalls is wait.
He doesnât immediately notice the way the stars mute themselves and hang limply in the dark. Nor does he notice the quieter rush of the falls, as if they are trying to whisper to the moon as best they can, asking why him, why him? Paws that pound from beneath, however, are louder in his ears.
WreckClanâs been through so, so much (and Stormchaser wonders if the first thing he should do as leader is change the name). Cats have died over the last leafbare, and even more left when they learned who was chosen to lead.
The bastard kittypet son of Patchskip. The kitten who had always torn up his own nest in his sleep and always refused to give any reason why. The one who had led his Clanmates into disastrous battles in their last war with PeatClan, and now has still somehow been chosen as leader. And if the stars had their way, things would be different.
Still, when only one cat comes down to greet him and give him a life, StormchaserâStormstar gladly accepts his destiny. This is it now, and if anyone else wants to leave then they can go shove their noses into a sharkâs mouth over it. Heâll be a good leader, a great one even, and heâll prove all those who doubted him wrong.
Even if he had to turn toward the dark to do it.
âFor now,â Newtpaw says, pressing his nose to Stormstarâs forehead, âtake this gift, to help you see the dawn behind the darkness.â
The rest couldnât even be bothered to show themselves.

Fireshimmer and Oriolepaw head out to gather juniper. And while they're out, they have a little talk.
âSo, why did you join the Clan anyway?â Oriolepaw asks somewhat absentmindedly as he pokes his nose closer toward the juniper. He tries to harvest them as Fireshimmer demonstrated, and it doesnât quite occur to him if he would really, fully trust this cat if she weren't the only full herbalist around.
âBugs,â Fireshimmer answers.
âWhat?â Oriolepaw flicks his ears and turns his rounded gaze on Fireshimmer.
âThe bugs.â Fireshimmer doesnât say anything else.
Puddledawn is unsure what the rest of the Clan thinks of him as deputy. He knows that heâs been serving as deputy for moons by now, and that heâs served loyally and faithfully, organizing patrols and making sure that WreckClanâs cats are all in line. And heâd be leader by now too, if it wasnât forâŚhim.
Of all the cats that StarClan could have chosen, why did it have to be Stormstar? Not that Puddledawn would ever want to doubt StarClanâs word, but, wellâŚhow could he not right now? His feelings only worsen as he peers through the planks into the leaderâs den, where Stormstar seems to be performing some kind of show for an audience of no one but himself.
âAlright, WreckClanners!â Stormstar exclaims, his tail lashing in a dramatic fashion as he stares at the wall opposite him. âCome witness the mighty storm himself, the absolute savior of WreckClan, the arbiter of justiceââ
Puddledawn clears his throat.
And Stormstar doesnât seem quite happy to see him, judging by the droop in his ears. But Puddledawn has to give him credit at least for managing to suppress it. âMay I ask what youâre doing?â Puddledawn asks him. The tip of his tail twitches a bit in anticipation as Stormstar manages to be silent for more than three seconds, beforeâ
âNever mind that,â Stormstar says. âCome here, come here! I want to get your opinion on something.â Stormstar heads over to a corner of the den and after some burrowing, he uncovers a bunch of shells. âSo, Iâve been collecting all these shells for my nest to decorate before I realized that itâs way too much.â He peers back toward Puddledawn. âSo, I was thinkingâwhy donât I give these out as prizes to the warriors?â
âJust to make their nests prettier?â
âAnd other things!â Stormstar says indignantly. âSome of these shells would make very good bludgeons, for example.â
âThatâs a terrible idea. Youâd far be better off using a rock like any sane cat,â Puddledawn hisses. StarClan, is this what heâs going to be dealing with for moons?
âYeah, so maybe I can test that on you next,â Stormstar huffs. âWhatever. Once I get these âstorm shellsâ ready, itâll get everyone pumped to work hard! I mean, look at these things.â He gestures toward the largest curled shell with his tail. âWouldnât you kill for one of them?â
