This is the case where two things can be true at once. Queer characters should be allowed to be flawed and messy and even overall bad people. But also, Korra just isn't comparable to the rest of these characters.

Korra's worst grievance was losing the connection to the past Avatars, something that wasn't even wholly her fault. She was lied to and manipulated. Even if you argue that she should have listened to her dad and Tenzin, she had no reason to think her uncle was plotting against her.

Korra was never malicious or intentionally tried to cause harm. She was arrogant and had a temper, but always tried her best to do the right thing.

(I've also made a few posts that Aang's done a lot of the same things that Korra's done and has gotten nowhere near the same amount of hate. The Legend of Aang movie proves this)

Catra has willfully engaged in colonization and tried to destroy the world because of her own feelings of inadequacy. She's purposely hurt a ton of innocent people, most of all Adora. I actually don't hate Catra or even her arc (I think it was rushed, but I don't have many complaints about how it was executed. I think had it been done over more than a season it would have been more meaningful), but c'mon. Comparing her to Korra isn't even legit. Azula would be a much more apt comparison.

Jax intentionally hurts people because she's afraid of letting people get close due to what happened when she (presumably) came out to her mom and as a coping mechanism. I think it's also important to remember that it's implied that Lee put on the headset either during or shortly after that night. Jax was quite literally created when Lee was at her worst.

Jax is supposed to represent that even bad people are still human and deserve to be treated as such. You're not supposed to defend her or make excuses for her. You're just supposed to remember that she's a person.

Which again, isn't nearly the same vein as Korra. Korra isn't a jerk on purpose nor does she treat people like they're beneath her. She's abrasive and gets angry, but as people have pointed out, she usually has a legitimate reason to be angry.

Stolas is a neglectful father who uses monetary leverage to coerce a lower class citizen into sex. And the show he's in tries to make everyone else the problem. Korra would never.

(Catra might be the most morally wrong out of these four, but in my personal opinion Stolas is the worst)

Well you see it's very simple.

The reason why I personally believe Jax works is that it's easy to see the show DOESN'T coddle and woobify Jax, the narrative doesn't absolve them of their mistakes and makes it clear that the way she acts is destructive and unhealthy not only to her, but to those around her as well. And unlike Stolas, Jax DOES receive consequences when he acts up. Such as getting tied up in the Haunted House episode, becoming a vegan, getting punished in the fast food episode, being left alone by the others. And when he does act out of line, the other characters call him out on it.

And her backstory is more of a way to humanize Jax rather than to make us feel bad for him or say he was always a good person. It gives us insight of how and why they turned out how we see them now, it doesn't justify or excuse her. It doesn't have the characters forgiving Jax.

Jax's story is a cautionary tale, and how he ends up in the end is symbolic of how not allowing yourself to heal and open up can destroy you.

But the way Stolas is handled, yeah he's way worse.

Helluva Boss shields Stolas from taking any form of accountability or realization that he's a horrible person. He doesn't really change at all throughout Season 1 and 2 and is treated as the one whose had it the hardest out of the cast. (He really didn't up until Sinsmas but even that is debatable with how he actually kind of benefits from it.)

And when we get to his backstory, it was clearly written to make us feel bad for him and to lay blame on other characters for how he turned out as an adult. It was all a contrived way to explain away how Stolas and Blitz met and hook up to where it feels more like a cringy Wattpad fanfic than anything.

And as the show goes on, it becomes abundantly clear that Stolas is a Writer's Pet in how the writers never let him be in the wrong, have the other characters apologize to HIM, His misery always being the fault of someone else and not from his own hand, and how he's just magically given everything he wanted without needing to actually sacrifice anything or work for it. And we all know Octavia is going to forgive him so once again Stolas doesn't have to really own up to anything.

And this isn't even mentioning the fact he was forced to kidnap people and indoctrinate them into a cult allegory, and the fact that the moment he had control over his body again, he killed himself.
