How to Make Pinterest Useful Again
In a perfect world, Pinterest wouldn't be so rampant with ads and ai that it's virtually unusable. Here are the different things I do to make it a decent experience again.
1. Filter Out AI Content in Settings:
Settings > Refine your recommendations > Ai Content > Toggle everything off.
This isn't perfect! There are still ai images that get through but it definitely helps.
There is also an option to select "See Less AI Art" when you press the three dots on a pin that was labeled as AI.
2. Seen Pin Too Many Times:
When you click the three dots an an ad, you can select Hide > seen pin too many times. Doing this on EVERY ad you see will eventually result in no ads being loaded for a while. This is what I did until I realized method #4 worked and was less tedious. Sometimes you can hide the first batch of ads and just reload the page and that also works.
3. Search Result Hack:
Add -ai at the end of your search request and no ads will show up in the results. Although the amount of ai content that shows up when doing this is varied.
4. Mobile Ad Blocking:
Use a VPN app that allows your IP address to be set in another country. When the VPN is active and set to another country Pinterest doesn't show you any ads in home feed or search results. I personally use Proton (not sponsored).
5. Desktop Ad Blocking:
Ublock Origin extention (not sponsored) blocks all ads and doesn't leave a gap where an ad would be. It blocks ads from other websites too, its just generally useful to have.
