Severus was still shaken - not over the discovery, or even the implications of it ( though those were present, drifting hazily beneath the surface of his thoughts, black and bulbous with poisoned reality like gorged leeches simply awaiting the proper moment to let loose their bile ) - but rather, by the events that followed.Â
Dumbledore vowing him into silence before he could even process how questionable it was, before he could stop and consider the legality of the demand, mind still reeling from events. Potter being praised for his heroism as Black got the Gryffindor equivalent of a slap on the wrist. Mulciber cornering him the morning after to confront the escapade -Â
It was all too much, and he honestly felt he would need at least a week to properly process where to direct his rage once it fully unleashed itself. Currently, he existed in a conditioned haze of numbness, focusing only on a project, and occasionally on homework. If he had been asked to account for the past few days, his report would have been correct only at the barest of glances - the school schedule, after all, had not changed despite the way the world was spinning.Â
That the Marauders had been blessedly silent aided in his distraction - but the time of peaceful numbness was at its end. Seeing Remus crossing the hall to get to him, Severus felt like he woke up for the first time in days.Â
His shoulders stiffened and his gaze immediately took to checking alcoves and other potential areas in case of ambush, but he didnât bolt - though some part of his mind insisted he should at least take hold of his wand, the fact that Lupin was clearly alone was not missed either.Â
Had he come with anyone else - even Pettigrew - Severus would have fled. As it was, he eyed the other silently a moment, before jerking his head to the left, indicating a hall that lead off to various empty classrooms often used for study halls.Â
âI doubt what you have to say is anything you wanât overheard,â He remarked by way of explanation, tone surprisingly lacking in its usual venomous bite. He didnât wait for an answer - either Lupin would follow or this didnât matter as much to him as his nervous demeanor seemed to indicate.Â
Drawing into an empty room, Severus set his books into his bag and crossed his arms. He wasnât about to make this easy, at least, not yet. He needed to know where Lupin stood, first.
Needed to know if heâd been in on the little prank or notâŠand whether his nerves were out of realizing how poorly things could have gone, or just self preservation in the face of the fact Severus had the unmitigated gall to survive.Â
Remus noticed, of course, the way Severusâ gaze shifted, how he seemed to expect or at least worry that someone else might be around, and he couldnât quite stop a pained expression from showing on his face, just for a second. Still, his voice was calm, and Remus could only hope, pray that was a good thing.
After all, it appeared as though he was allowed to explain, in privacy even.
Almost tripping over his own feet, Remus followed quickly, determined to do this right. Once inside the room, he closed the door behind him, then moved away from it; the last thing he needed or wanted was Severus thinking heâd try to block the door and keep the other there. His arms wrapped around his upper body, almost as though he were trying to hug himself, and as he pressed against the wound from that night a little bit too much, he flinched slightly.
âI â I wanted to say Iâm so sorry.â He struggled with the words, fear taking over and his entire body trembling. But once they were out, more followed immediately.
âIâm sorry I didnât figure out what he was doing, Iâm sorry I never even considered he might. And Iâm sorry that I was too far out already to stop it myself. I didnât â Iâd never want this to happen to anyone and I need you to know this isnât me. If Iâd known â fuck, I would have told you myself!â

@holmesdepot / starter call.
It was only when he was actually approaching Severus Snape that Remus realized he wasnât entirely sure what exactly it was that he was doing here or how he was going to attempt to have this conversation. Heâd made the decision the second he had found out what had happened, then assumed it would make more sense to give the other student a few days time; after all, Severus would be confronted with someone who, even if unwillingly, had almost killed him.
âHey.â
He felt horrible as he came face to face with the Slytherin. There was this little voice inside his mind that told him what he was doing here was wrong, even though Remus was painfully aware of how necessary it was. And yet that knowledge didnât change anything about the fear in his eyes, the way his body seemed to be trying to make itself as small as possible. His voice that was close to breaking.
âCan â can we talk for a moment? Please?â
Severus outing Remus as a werewolf has actually nothing to do with his decision to leave Hogwarts at the end of PoA.
âBut Victor! Thatâs literally what Remus tells Harry!â
Yes, that is true. And what Remus says, about all these parents whoâll write to the Headmaster and possibly to the Ministry as well, is absolutely correct and would most likely happen if he kept his position. But in the end, itâs Dumbledore who decides who teaches and who doesnât, and if Dumbledore keeps Remus and insists that he is no danger â what could possibly happen?
Remus knows that his position as a teacher for DADA is safe as long as he doesnât actually hurt anyone.
The thing is: it almost happened. Yes, the circumstances were so out of the ordinary that it really isnât Remusâ fault â or is it? He forgot about the full moon, despite Severus pointing it out just a few minutes earlier. Instead of staying in the Shack, where he would have been safe, he went back to Hogwarts with the others and put them in danger. And â was it really that much out of the ordinary, consdering that Harry was involved? Remus certainly knows what happened in Harryâs first two years at Hogwarts, he knows thereâs a chance something might happen again. He knows he could end up in situation such as this again, except that it would end way worse that time.
He does not want to risk hurting anyone, and since he came close to doing just that, he made his decision to leave.
Iâm also convinced that when he first heard about Severus outing him, Remus thought he deserved it for messing up in such a horrible way. He ultimately changed his mind about that, of course, when he couldnât get a job neither in the Muggle world (as he never graduated anywhere) nor in the wizarding world (due to his now known condition).
Severus ruined Remusâ chance of ever finding a new job, that is true, but Remusâ time teaching at Hogwarts was over the moment he decided to leave the Shrieking Shack, no matter the actual outcome of that night.

Iâm just leaving a casual starter call for when I get up in the morning.
james potter. / potterlyjames
â Sorry Moony. â James sad sheepishly as the two went off to talk in the corner of the hallway.Â
âWell you have quite literally always been the responsible marauder but I didnât finish the last of my charms homework. Could I pretty please copy off of yours? Iâll make it up to you I promise. â Was james going to? Probably, but at this point he owed Remus so much it would take him years to pay back.Â
The expression of amusement disappeared the second James spoke the word âhomeworkâ. Remusâs eyes widened and his mouth dropped open slightly, forming a little o as he stopped in the middle of a step.
âPlease tell me youâre kidding right now. Charms homework? There was charms homework?â Flickwick was going to kill him, Remus was certain â because if James was right and there had, in fact, been homework assigned, this would already be the second time within not even three weeks that heâd missed it. Responsible Marauder my arse.
Sirius, to James and Peter while planning a prank: You two are extremely rude. Moonyâs the only one who trusts me blindly.
Remus: I donât know whatever gave you that idea but Sirius, I canât even trust you literally with my eyes wide open.
Tonks: Undress me with your words!
Remus: There's a spider in your bra.
teddy. / suitedblue
Bad enough that everyone knew he was Remus Lupinâs kid. War hero legacies and what not. Worse is that heâs got Defense Against the Dark Arts with the Slytherins, and though heâs sure that they wouldnât pull anything while his dad was in the room, there was a big part he was dreading it when he had received his schedule. Heâs in his fifth year, and while of course he was incredibly proud of his dad (at home), school was a whole other matter.
He was well-liked, easy to get along with, and - much like his father, had a penchant for getting into mischief.
Still, when heâs too busy enchanting a paper plane with details on it and everything and doesnât hear his father call on him until the second time, where his plane does a nosedive into the back of one of his friendâs head, Teddy looks up, giving him a blank stare.
      â- âŠCan you repeat that?â
@wolfslayedâ
Remus is aware, of course, that it can be rather awkward to be stuck in a class taught by your own father or even just attending the school where your father teaches. He tries to not make it worse, to find the balance between being a father and being a teacher in a way that hopefully makes none of them uncomfortable.
Which maybe should have been a good reason for Remus to not call on him.
And yet, when Teddy was so clearly not listening, he canât quite help the fond smile that appears on his lips, especially when he spots the paper plane that he chooses to ignore and that reminds him so much of his own time as a student at Hogwarts.
âI asked if youâd like to share the last paragraph of the essay you received back today,â he repeats, tilting his head slightly. âYou made some interesting points that your classmates might be interested in.â

I've been awake for 19 hours now, so naturally, my brain decided to point out the "hot dad energy" that Remus has according to some students.
james potter. / potterlyjames
@wolfslayed· starter for James & RemusÂ
âMoony!â James called out as he raced down the great hall towards the staircase where he saw his best friend and fellow marauder Remus walking to class. James, per usual was running late to class, and also per usual he hadnât finished the rest of his homework so he needed to somehow copy some of Moonyâs work to turn in.Â
âOh thank god I finally caught up with you. Donât kill me but I need you to save me again.âÂ
âFuck, Prongs!â Remus had actually flinched at his friendâs call, since he hadnât expected it at all. Shaking his head, he laughed quietly though and then turned to look at James, one eyebrow raised.
âYâknow, if you keep almost scaring me to death, Iâm gonna kill you for that rather than having to save your arse.â The wide grin on his lips betrayed his words. âSo, what is it this time?
Other parents pressure their children to have good grades and to always do whatâs right, never have fun, no pranks, please and thank.
Remus Lupin pressures his son to do the Marauders justice and pull better pranks than they ever did and Really, Teddy, the idea was brilliant, but it would have been ten times funnier if youâd charmed the cutlery as well.
It would have been awesome if head of the houses werenât allowed to award or deduct points from other houses and when they needed to do so they would have to approach someone else⊠Like-
Snape: Deduct 5 points from Griffindor.
Any Prof: Why?
Snape: Because Miss Granger answered my question.
Any Prof: WTF????
If this is about the incident in PoA where Snape is covering Lupinâs lesson, and he deducts 5 points from Hermione for speaking out of turn, then I think this actually raises a rather more interesting discussion.
Firstly, letâs be clear - any professor would side with their fellow teacher. Hermioneâs point deduction was not, as you suggest, for answering the question - but for speaking out of turn when she had not been invited to answer; in doing so, Hermione disrespects Snapeâs authority. Â
But rather more interestingly, itâs worth looking at the wider lesson - Harry turns up late, and Snape deducts points accordingly. Snape then has to tell Harry to sit down three times, and on the third time, he deducts more points and threatens to remove fifty points as a deterrent, and Harry finally relents.
So when Hermione starts speaking out of turn, Snape is already dealing with an air of disrespect in the classroom - and for once, he is an interloper - he might still be a teacher, but heâs the wrong teacher, and the children are questioning his authority.
Importantly, during all of this, Snape does give latitude - he deducts points when Hermione interrupts for the second time, not the first, and he invites Harry to sit down more than once before deducting points. You can see similar escalation with Ron - Snape warns Hermione that he is teaching the lesson, and then when Ron argues about Hermioneâs punishment, Snape gives him detention for the same infraction that Hermione had been warned about: ââŠif I ever hear you criticise the way I teach a class again, you will be very sorry indeed.â
The thing is, the way the kids react in these scenes is very real and absolutely understandable for their characters - Harry challenges authority when he doesnât respect it, Ron defends his friends, and Hermione wants to impart her knowledge. âŠbut the frustrating thing is that Snapeâs reaction is equally understandable, and yet, many donât seem to recognise it. It isnât him being a git - itâs him being a teacher with authority. Â
Itâs not unreasonable for him to expect kids to arrive at his lesson on time, sit down, and speak when theyâre called upon instead of disrupting the class by speaking out of turn.Â
snapeâs point deductions are rarely without merit tbh. there are some glaring outliers, but throughout the series snape takes points for a variety of reasons that are actually within his purview as a teacher: disruptions, out-of-turn talking, disrespect, rule-breaking, etc. itâs not unreasonable for him to take points from students who participate in that behavior and itâs not him just being a dick.Â
also like⊠heâs a teacher - and, even more importantly, a teacher who is in charge of a class that can result in injury or worse if not managed strictly. some of my strictest teachers were my chemistry teachers - bc if you get something wrong in lab, it is actually possible to hurt yourself or others. potions is a volatile subject and it does make sense to me that snape would want to rule with an iron fist, esp considering some of his students are young. (have YOU ever tried teaching 11 year olds? i have. theyâre terrible at focusing and if they can hurt themselves with something, they will.)Â
like yeah, harry & co think itâs unfair and sometimes it might be - but not always. of course the kid who speaks out of turn thinks itâs unfair when a teacher tells him to stop talking and then takes points when they donât listen. snape is actually an authority in the classroom, regardless of the trioâs personal feelings toward him.Â
I was 13 when i first picked up a HP book, and i always saw that âsnape deducts point from hermione bc she answers questionsâ as reasonable. Bc around that time, i was the smartass in my class, and i was docked points for this a lot, until a teacher told me: itâs not getting the answers right and moving on, itâs about learning. Itâs for the kids with difficulties, the kids who are learning in a foreign language, for kids who need to understand the content instead of parroting it.
My answering the questions for my classmates i was taking their chance at learning, the content and the process. Bc when pace of the class is set to the smart one, everyone else gets dragged along and nobodyâs going to put an effort in anything. I was smart in history, not chemistry, and that got boring very fast.
So yeah, you all can miss me with that nonsense. Itâs called perspective.
Snapeâs point deductions were hardly as unreasonable as some remember them to be, and on a related note, they werenât as numerous either. When he takes points, itâs usually because of classroom misbehavior, and he takes small amounts of points. If I remember correctly, when he takes points itâs almost always no more than 5 or 10 at a time. And weâre in his classroom more often that we are in other teacherâs classrooms, so we see him take points in class most. So while Iâm sure that he took more points than many of the other professors, we see him take a lot more in comparison simply because we see his classroom a lot more than we see othersâ. Thereâs a post somewhere that lists how many points were taken by each professor throughout the entire series, and Snape and McGonagall were almost equal. But most of Snapeâs were in many small amounts, and most of McGonagallâs were in a few large amounts. Most of the view of Snape unfairly taking a lot of points comes from what events are depicted in the book because of relevance. And Snape didnât give a single point throughout all seven books, so the idea that he made Slytherin win the house cup because of all the points he gave is just ridiculous.
You: snape took points unfairly just because he hated The Golden Gryffindor Trioâą!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!
Me, an intellectual: snape was being a Teacherâą
me: should i make a sarcastic comment or not

The Marauders according to Remus:
James is the hot Marauder Remus is the cuddly Marauder Peter is the cute Marauder Sirius is the idiot Marauder
@kindheartted asked: â You know why I came. â / Elisabeth das Musical.
âIâm not entirely sure I do know, but I can make an educated guess.â
Remus felt like a teenager all over again, like an awkward boy who had his first crush and was thrown into a slightly uncomfortable first meeting with the parents. The only difference here was that he was a grown up man by now and this wasnât about a simple crush. It also wasnât helping that he had roughly the same experience at this as a 16 year old boy, which made for the worst possible circumstances he could imagine.
âSo, uhm â what can I do for you?â
