My new manager got yelled at by a costumer because he messed up on an order and he had to void everything and rescan all the groceries
The woman had 2 store gift cards, one with $8 on it and another with $100 on it and she insisted that it wouldn't go through the card reader, I couldn't convince her to actually put the gift cards through the card reader, she INSISTED that it won't work, so I had to call my manager, who is a new manager, today was his first day without the other managers for help
And my new manager couldn't figure out how the gift cards work without putting it through the card reader, he was trying his best, putting his key into the computer and overriding the system and it didn't work, he was so confused, he didn't know how to do it
He had to get out his cellphone and call another manager and asked him how to do it
Apparently, what he was doing was the wrong way and messed something up and he had to void the whole order to do it all again and the woman was not having it
The woman told him he was incompetent, she said " You're the most incompetent manager I've ever seen! Is there another manager here? " and he told her that he's the only manager there right now
He even apologized and told her that he was new but the woman was still yelling at him
I really wanted to say something because I felt bad for him because he is a new manager and he hasn't done this before, he was trying his best, but I didn't want to snap back at the woman's rude behavior towards him because might get in trouble for snapping at a costumer, even if I was trying to defend a manager, so I just watched and waited for instructions
The woman didn't want her stuff scanned all over again
and the manager told kept telling her that it needs to be scanned again
And I even said " I can scan them, it's no problem "
But the woman didn't budge
Eventually, the woman let us scan everything all over again
She still insisted that the gift cards won't work on the card reader and we had to do it anyway, she said " I'm telling you, it won't work "
And it worked and I made a face like " ta da! It worked! "
The woman kept saying she will never come here again and she told him that he was a terrible manager
And the manager gave her a free bag of her other groceries as compensation
While I was on break, he came into the breakroom to put up some posters and I told him that he did good and he didn't deserve to be yelled at
He told me " I've been called worse " and I said " I still feel bad "
He told me that the woman has snapped at him before, a few days ago
