canon horsey
do you mind if i use this map/make a map inspired by yours for my au?? (i love steppes and there needs to be more. criminal underrepresentation of those in canon.)
Sorry for the late response, but yes!! Go ahead <33 I'd love to see it!
(I looked through your blog for a quick minute so sorry if this question as already been answered!)
Will you ever do a redesign of Pantala? No pressure im just really curious what your thoughts would be
Yes, I plan to! I don't know when I'll get to that and it might not be for a long time, but I hope that at least when all the Pyrrhian tribes are fleshed out, then I can start on that. I'm open to suggestions :]
why does the shape of pyrrhia look so different?
Answered more in-depth here, but to put it simply, to give all the tribes a bit more land to work with, and to give Thorne and I more opportunity for different biomes and climates.
Changing the overall shape of the landmass & rotating it slightly allowed us to somewhat match it with continental North America in terms of climate mapping.
And also it just looks cool! It's different, but still dragon shaped, and still clearly intended to be Pyrrhia :]

i see that there’s tribe redesigns section in your masterpost, which i’m super excited to see! have you begun to work on any of the redesigns yet?
Yes! I have some older concepts on my main blog but I plan on redoing them or at least touching them up, and giving them some more material.
Several of the tribes already have their base redesigns done, and I just need to give them their extras and whatnot, like wingspan/wing design, babies/eggs, dimorphism, etc.
Speaking of,
Which tribe redesign are you interested in seeing first?
SkyWings
NightWings
SeaWings
SandWings
IceWings
RainWings
MudWings
Pantalan tribes first!
@thepuncherofcheese
I guess it's up to interpretation if you'd like, but not exactly what I intended haha
Think of it in terms of a continent from the real world. While a lot of the far north regions of larger continents IRL are cooler for most of the year, it's actually only completely snow-covered year-round at the highest altitudes and much closer to the poles. But the majority of IceWing territory is snow-covered during the winter!
Thorne and I mapped out the climates in a way that's relatively similar to continental North America. Here's a comparison of our Pyrrhia sized next to ALL of North America (this is how they would look side by side if Pyrrhia existed):
There's still a lot of fantasy climate placement going on, but at the very least is somewhat believable (imo at least, a real scientist might disagree).
You'll notice that the desert & rainforest are FAR bigger than anything that exists on earth irl today, but to be completely fair, everything is untouched by industrial capitalism and the story revolves around gigantic flying reptiles.
Answering this in a post rather than a reply so others can see it! @ravnfang
I was motivated to change a lot of Pyrrhia's shape as a landmass so I could include more biomes like the grasslands, mesa, savanna, foothills, etc! It also let Thorne and I calculate where biomes would realistically be placed according to the equator, and being able to put IceWings even farther north than in canon allowed the existence of the desert & the rainforest in relatively canon locations, within reason. Climatology and ecology is cool!
Here's the actual raw biome placement we had mapped out! The final result of the map looks a little different because I couldn't make things perfectly exact, especially because of color blending, but it gives you an idea of just how many unique climates there are due to the edited continent shape & the sheer size of the world.
(Who knows, maybe one day I'll go back and remake the map of Pyrrhia again with even more faithfulness to Thorne's climates.)
As for the NightWing island, it's canonically quite far away, but I decided to make it even farther for sense of scale. A volcano the size of the one on the NightWing island would produce enough smoke and ash that it would be noticeable from a huge distance. After all, in the story it's mentioned that most young NightWings don't even know the sky is really blue! It's difficult for them to even know the time of day. They can't see that far from where they live. It's almost equivalent to an extinction-level event eruption. Here's a somewhat similar visual of a volcano from space:
So for the volcano to not be noticed at all by ANY other tribe (especially IceWings who, at least in my HC, spend weeks gliding out at sea), it would need to be an exhaustive distance. Still not as far of a flight as Pantala though! :D
Thank you so much for asking!! I love answering questions like this /gen
How did you make that map?? It looks really good and i’be been looking FOREVER for a website that can make maps really good!! (Of course that’s assuming that it is a website)
I used the Inkarnate browser app! It's free for a lot of features but for certain map sizes & custom stamps and certain tools you need premium. It's only like 5$ a month/25$ a year though! It's super well priced for what it offers
It takes some practice and ultimately it took me well over a year before I was happy with my final product! But I'm just autistic and nitpicky lmao
It hasn't even been 24 hours 😭😭 omg
Thank y'all so much for the support ??! This has def breached my following and I can't express how much it means that people enjoy my work !!
There will be more trust

🆕 UPDATE
Edited the map of Pyrrhia slightly to include a few more points of interest (POIs) and smooth out some biome borders.
I've also included a full version of the map with all the POI labels visible, and one that's completely blank so you can place your own POIs and labels if you want!
You have my full permission to use the map in your own headcanons, roleplays, and other stuff. (Just as long as credit to Thorne and I is given if you're posting it somewhere publicly, or if someone asks who made it.)
PYRRHIA
*Alt text available!
Roughly 1.5x the size of North America, Pyrrhia is the largest continent inhabited by dragons. Despite it's monumental size, very few areas on the map are considered un-owned territory, with even fewer areas being considered unexplored entirely.
Thanks to the continent's huge climate range, Pyrrhia has the most dragon tribe diversity of any landmass, hosting seven tribes in their entirety.
This includes: SkyWings, IceWings, SandWings, MudWings, RainWings, NightWings and SeaWings.
