It's a very, verrrrrrry brief moment but we get this shot when Max is looking through the Orichalcum.

Also this shot just breaks my heart. Baby Max just looking at his Dad almost pityingly while Maddox just looks so lost....

Add the fact Maddox sounds so desperate and in tears when we hear him cry out in a flashback earlier when Max explains why his father went mad:

"You don't understand Max...!"

Max did ask what his father saw in the Orichalcum, which means Maddox had to have seen him and Max had a close bond and "better life" (I say it in quotes because they weren't on the Isle but were living under a hotheaded Queen with a mean trigger finger. That kind of stress, yeah no not fun. I'd say still better than the Isle in someways while in others not so much.)

Maddox had to have seen Red had stolen the watch, and that she and Chloe were the one's who had went back and forward in time changing everything. Which explains how quickly Maddox went from sounding so happy saying Max's name when he realized he was back in Wonderland, to furious when he realizes he's with Red and Chloe.

Which means... maybe part of the reason he had been so desperate to get that watch was for not just to be proven right and get back at those he felt wronged him, but for his son to finally believe him because he does love him and it broke his heart Max didn't believe him. Max was the last good thing Maddox had after being banished to the Isle, and for his son to pull away and start treating him like everyone else had to have hurt. Which only made the obsession for the watch so much worse.

But... on the bright side now that Max knows the truth and the object of Maddox's obsession is gone and the timeline's seem to be merging then at least these two will finally get to heal. Because I guarantee they both missed each other horribly despite all that happened and now Max finally giving him a chance and not leave him will probably do wonders (heh) for them both.
