My MC for Hogwarts Mystery:

Jeanne Lachman comes from a magical family.

Her name is pronounced like the word ‘Genie’. 

She has an older brother named Jacob.

Her best friends are Rowan, Penny and Ben.

She has this rivalry going on with Merula. 

Jeanne is tired a lot. 

Best subject is Charms.

Worst subject is Potions.

Jeanne likes flying well enough.

Yet she’s not a Quidditch person.

She’s actually a seer, like her brother.

One of her flaws, aside from procrastination, is personal loyalty. 

She’s in the same year as Charlie Weasley and Tonks.

Raised to be the best of the best, Cormac McLaggen - popular jock extraordinaire - doesn’t take well to, well, becoming the opposite. He doesn’t want to let his parents down. You see, this whole mess started when he tried out for their high school’s american football team. Weasley made the cut and he himself did not. It’s still something he’s pissed about. His English grades and history grades plummeted afterwards. He did the best he could to get them up again but that wasn’t enough for his parents, oh no. (It’s not his fault that all those names were too damn hard to remember, much less spell correctly!)

Enter Padma Patil. Her twin sister, Parvati, is semi popular. She does something in theatre or whatever. Padma, though, keeps more to herself despite the fact that she and her twin sister are the prettiest girls of their year. She blushes every time someone brings it up. It’s flattering. She hadn’t expected people to take such notice, actually. But that’s a story for another day, and speaking of which: she writes. She writes a lot. Wants to publish a book one day. Full of stories and poems and maybe some lyrics too. English is a piece of cake. And that’s why she’s here.

She’s his tutor.

“Why are you always so rude?” was etched onto his skin, written on the curve of his hipbone.

Cormac McLaggen kept it to himself. He wanted to choose his own partner. He didn’t believe in soulmates, and besides, it’s far too personal to share with just about anyone. Hell, even his parents didn’t know about his soulmark!

Padma’s parents knew about her soulmark, though, as did her twin sister. “Now there’s finally something memorable about her.” While most people were elated about their soulmark, Padma wasn’t. Not about hers. Every time she looked at the words in the mirror, those words nestled within the slope of her shoulders, she cringed and wondered, not for the first time, why she had to have a soulmate that clearly didn’t care about her. (What had she done wrong in a previous life?)

Relationships should be built on trust, mutual respect and positivity. None of which that sentence embodied. 

She resolved to ignore her soulmark. It didn’t matter. She would choose her own partner, if the time ever came. But it wasn’t until Padma went to school and witnessed Umbridge’s reign of terror first hand in her fifth year, and Marietta’s betrayal of Dumbledore’s Army, that those words meant something. 

During the fall out of Marietta’s betrayal, Padma quarreled with everyone who so much as looked at her the wrong way to let out her pent up frustration, and yes, Cormac McLaggen was included in that category. 

“It’s her own fault, really. She shouldn’t have ratted us out. Besides, the jinx is an improvement. Now there’s finally something memorable about her.” Seemingly without thinking, Padma shot back: “Why are you always so rude?” and froze while Cormac arched an eyebrow before a grin grew on his features as he answered her question: “It’s in my nature.”

1): she makes many claims: her name is lost, she does not know who she is, she does not know what she can do. she just woke up one day with a note in her pocket, saying: find the sun, moon and stars. they’ll guide you. they’ll help you. they’ll know what to do.

2): technically this witch is named after one of the moon’s twenty seven wives. though that is the one thing rohini will never divulge. and even if she had the time, she can’t: there are children and legacies of the gods and goddesses to be found, for they need help.

3): lost names? chandraja can relate. daughter of the moon, perpetually angry at people who mispronounce her name, she’s jumped headfirst after one of her dad’s wives came to her for help. (doesn’t mean she’s cool with the eternal questing, though. seriously. when can she take a break? there are so many movies she needs to catch up on!)

4): made of sunlight with a smile to match, suravi is the one who keeps up the morale. she’d take on the role of the ‘mom friend’ but rohini has that one down pat. she’s chandraja’s foil in every possible way and she never, ever lets her forget it. despite that, they work well together. though be careful when you approach the daughter of the sun: her anger scorches.
