I don’t remember many things about you, because it’s been so long since I last saw you. I don’t remember your voice, nor do I remember the way your eyes shine anymore. The best I got is all the pictures I see you on Instagram, laughing and smiling with your friends.

Back then, in school, all I really cared about was my grades. Not friends, not games day or all the snacks back in school, just… me. At least, that was what I told myself, in order to cope with the fact that I always felt so lonely deep down.

The first time I met you, we were in the same class. Back then, I didn’t know how to talk to others that well. You were the first to reach out to me. The first person who I could really call a friend.

We always hung out a lot. Whether it be through our mutual friends, or just the two of us, everything was so good. Even as we were out in the field during Phys Ed class, it didn’t stop the two of us from being crackheads, lagging and smiling.

You were there for me when I cried, when I believed that I was alone and could only rely on myself. I was there for you, when your friends were fighting and you didn’t know who to turn to, who to confide in. Through our highs and lows, we always had each other, even if we didn’t always talk.

Before I knew it, 2 years had passed, and we had graduated from school. I still have the birthday card you gave me back then, the first time that I ever got a gift from someone who wasn’t a family member. The contents of that letter, with that silly Olaf drawing… they ignited the hope in my soul. You have no idea how you changed me for the better. I wouldn’t be who I am today, and with all my achievements today, without the initial push from you back then.

How can we forget all these things? With two syllables, saying “good-bye” like this Whenever I hear this song, everytime I do, maybe I think we will, at that time, I’m sure we will, at that time…

I don’t remember our little conversations back in school anymore. I can’t remember the way your eyes light up whenever you’re excited, nor can I recall your voice anymore. Even when I see you on instagram, I know you’re not the lotus flower girl of my memories from so long ago. You are now a stranger, and we barely keep in contact. I do not know the you now, but I believe that you are as lovely as the younger you that I knew back then, under the sunny sky.

Memories of being together Are these memories we want to keep? Or is it a nightmare we want to push away? No, we might hate each other right now Yes, it makes me cry a lot, too But let’s not hate each other, let’s be happy I’m sure we had a great time back then...

Would you hate me if you saw me now? For I am no longer as innocent as I once was back then. I have grown tired of so many things in life, all the politics that I see around me. Would you despise me? For being who I am? For still shutting out people even though you have told me to let them in? I don’t know. Would I hate you if I realised you are not how I imagined you to be anymore, even though one should never expect anything? I don’t know. I haven’t talked to you for so long, other than pleasantries regarding our birthdays and that one time there was this inter-school camp. Even then, I could feel the distance between us.

Yet. I hope that when you look back at the time where we talked to each other almost everyday, you would reminisce with a smile on your face. For just like how you brought happiness and hope in my life, I hope that I have done something similar to you. Even till today, I regard you as my benefactor of my youth, and I don’t believe I would ever forget you. I even had a crush on you once, but now that I look at it, I know it was simply admiration. Still, first love… you were someone really amazing, you know that?

The year 2021 is ending. Tomorrow, when I wake up, I know that we both have to throw ourselves into the life that is our national examinations for college. I don’t know if I’ll meet you again, or if I’ll somehow manage to go overseas. (Though that’s what I’m hoping for) Between the time we embarked on our own journey, I’ve listened to your advice. I’ve found friends who I can confide in, and now I can confidently say that I’m not alone anymore. I did it, y/n. You were right all this time. Pfft, I can’t believe you were that mature since young. But I’m glad I got to meet you at that point.

To think that it actually happened and you’ve become one of my closest online friends even though we didn’t talk as much HAHA. I check up on your blog every now (well definitely not because I want to know how you’re doing). I recently came across an ask where you said, “go easy on yourself. coming from me it’s a bit hypocritical since i’m a perfectionist, but the way to get better at writing is to practice. so if your first fifty works are terrible, that doesn’t matter bc it’s all practice for the things you’ll write and be proud of later”. And well damn I saved it down bc I always feel shit about my writing and yk that really helped me.

You know that letter you posted before the New Years? I read it and I almost teared up. I’m so happy for you that you became someone that you wanted to be. I’m so proud of being able to know you, a person who overcame all her difficulties and grew into a person she liked. I may be older than you, but you’ve grown so much more than me and there’s so much I can learn from you.
