my genuine opinion on the "is fanfiction real literature" debate entire hinges on which side is being more annoying at the moment.

on one hand i have encountered people who think fanfiction writers are single handedly saving art , and think criticizing fanfiction is anti-queer or whatever" and those people are extremely annoying, on the other hand i have also encountered people who think fanfiction is degenerate slop with 0 artistic value that's rotting your brain" and those people are extremely annoying too, so i guess the only person i can trust is myself who has never made a pretentious post on the internet in my entire human life.

sometimes it’s important to like a female character for her potential when not in the hands of a misogynistic writer and at the same time hate a guy just for being blonde

Seeing Israelis being thrown out of local establishments in other parts of the world is heartwarming

Israelis are funny, there's like a poll every month or somethin where the vast majority are like "ethnically cleansing Palestinians from Gaza is based" or "Who gives a shit about Palestinian suffering". The only reason they're calling out Ben Gvir is because he's openly tarnishing Israel's PR, not because of his extremist policies. The majority of the knesset members (they voted in) are genocidal, the only difference is that they're quiet about it, which is why they don't face as much scrutiny.

I'm a BIG fan of low ranking characters suddenly thrust into a position of authority they're unprepared for. a young princess, too far down the line of succession to merit any training, forced onto the throne when her whole family dies in one attack. a lowly technician on a team who finds themself the defacto leader when a mission goes wrong and every single person above them is captured or killed. a group of strangers comes together for survival, and the only person with any assertiveness gets assigned a leadership role, even though they have no special skills. do these characters rise to the challenge and lead their respective groups to victory? do they crash and burn under the pressure so hard no one ever trusts them again? do they massively restructure their whole society because any system that puts them in charge can't be doing things right?

it’s simple: when I like an adaptation, everyone complaining about changes to the text is a whiny baby who needs to get over themselves and accept that sometimes you have to change the story to enrich the experience/work within the medium. when I don’t like an adaptation, it’s because nobody else understands the core themes of the original work and would be better off just creating a story independent of what they’re trying to adapt.
