I'm a BIG fan of low ranking characters suddenly thrust into a position of authority they're unprepared for. a young princess, too far down the line of succession to merit any training, forced onto the throne when her whole family dies in one attack. a lowly technician on a team who finds themself the defacto leader when a mission goes wrong and every single person above them is captured or killed. a group of strangers comes together for survival, and the only person with any assertiveness gets assigned a leadership role, even though they have no special skills. do these characters rise to the challenge and lead their respective groups to victory? do they crash and burn under the pressure so hard no one ever trusts them again? do they massively restructure their whole society because any system that puts them in charge can't be doing things right?

itâs simple: when I like an adaptation, everyone complaining about changes to the text is a whiny baby who needs to get over themselves and accept that sometimes you have to change the story to enrich the experience/work within the medium. when I donât like an adaptation, itâs because nobody else understands the core themes of the original work and would be better off just creating a story independent of what theyâre trying to adapt.

âI was on a strict diet during Episode VIII, and she was like, âKid, get into that fridge and take some chocolate bars. I have many there.â And I did,â he recalls. âI failed my diet because Carrie Fisher told me to. And it [felt] great.â
-John Boyega on Carrie Fisher

theyre called broad shoulders because theyre for women
george lucas, remarkably unsubtley, over and over again: the fall of the republic was because of corporate interests interfering with politics and increased complacency with fascist ideas in the face of a manufactured war
everyone, for some reason: so the jedi were the REAL villains because they didnât get married
people who find it easy to do things have no idea how hard it is to do things
Butch character: [exists]
Way, way too many people, many of whom are women who genuinely consider themselves feminists:Â âWell, actually, this is bad representation because it suggests that women need to be like men to be strong. It would be better if she were more stereotypically feminine. Female characters wearing combat boots or practical clothing to a fight just sends the message that women wearing high heels and ballgowns are not dressed for rigorous athletic feats. Itâs actually more empowering to show that women can have full faces of perfect makeup and be sexy and feminine at all times and prioritize their appearance, even when theyâre hacking their way through aliens 24/7.â
#hot take but like at least 80% of what people call âmasculineâ or âmannishâ is just. neutral.
Not shaving. Not wearing makeup. Choosing clothes and shoes based primarily on comfort and/or practicality. Not excessively styling hair, and/or having a low-effort (short) haircut. These are all neutral actions or inaction. They are easier and often healthier for a person than the traditionally feminine alternatives. Think about whose agenda youâre serving when you posit that just existing in your natural body is âmasculineâ and one must put in significant conscious effort each day to be sufficiently âfeminine.â Think about whose agenda youâre serving when you insist that female representation in media must always be high-effort feminine.
very funny bit happening in the replies
