As we enter Pride Month, we reach out with humble hearts from the LGBT community in South Sudan.

We are facing extreme hardship lacking food, water , medication, clothing and toys for our children. Despite everything, we remain strong and united.

I’m an autistic trans man, my girlfriend is a trans woman. A wellness check was called for me, the crisis team tried to force open the door. I felt pressured to talk to them, but my girlfriend told me that they weren’t the police and that I didn’t have to go alone with them.

When I got the police report I could see clearly that they called and lied after my girlfriend didn’t let me get forced to talk to them alone. We have no weapons.

While she was detained they started asking about our relationship. When I told them she helps with tasks because I’m autistic, they told me I could get her arrested and get a care worker instead. When I denied they asked if I wanted to be institutionalized or hospitalized instead.

Right now, my account is overdrafted and I need to pay rent. We’re in the process of getting the bodycam footage, and we’re filing a civil complaint soon.
