step 1: gather references because you’re going to need that shit. use the things stored in your brain to concoct some bullshit to put on a 6 x 4 procreate canvas

step 2: i make a really horrific and unintelligible sketch in a bright and wacky color and then go over that with some shapes and stuff i think (my favorite brushes to sketch with are dry ink, hb pencil, and derwent pencil on procreate)

step 3: procrastinate the lineart for anywhere from 4 days to 4 months. i fucking hate lineart so this part is vital. once i finally get into it i put the streamline way up bc my hands are shaky as hell ! then spend like 10 hours on said lineart (my fav lineart brushes are tinderbox, derwent, i forget what els

step 4: do the background (i actually do this before lineart or whatever but it’s basically the same steps i am half asleep.)

5: lay down your flat colors on separate layers. i then put all the layers on alpha lock and add hair strands and blush and textures and shit on each of the layers. after everything looks cooler you can merge them if you’re confident. begin a prayer. think of some positive affirmations. things are about to go to hell.

step 6/ shading and lighting. I hate shading. idk how to do it so i just lay down a NEON ASS GREEN wherever the darkness is hitting then i alpha lock it and change the colors so it matches and doesn’t look crazy and then sometimes if i am feeling Spicy i will put it on a multiply layer. this is also where you take advantage of the hue/saturation/brightness setting. for lighting i just wing it on an add layer bc I AM A SLUT FOR ADD LAYERS. it just looks so cool. sometimes i use soft light layers also

step 7:! recolor the lineart bc it’s usually ugly at this point also this is where i do color adjustments and shit

step 8: add like 30 overlays bc god didn’t give us color theory to understand it, he gave us color theory to torture ourselves for his entertainment.

step 9: add some grain and texture and stuff bc 2018 vsco is still imprinted on my subconscious

step 10: add some white lines wherrever feels necessary. go batshit crazy! put it in the eyes outline the character do whatever ! and then add your signature
