Hey hey, Ellipsus people - New permissions dropped! 💬🗯️

Want beta feedback without edits? Ellipsus now supports comment only collaborators!

The Can Comment role lets you invite someone into your document just to comment - nothing more, nothing less. They can make comments, reply to comments, offer all their hot takes… but they can’t make edits to docs or drafts, or merge changes. We think it’s great for reviewers, editors… any friends with Opinions™.

We’ve also added another way to share your work in Ellipsus: the Can View role! If you invite someone to your document with Can View access, they’ll be able to:

Read the main document

View all drafts, including active ones

But! This is not the same as sharing a link to a single doc or draft - the Can View role is like handing someone your full project - without letting them leave comments or make edits. It’s nice if you’re using drafts to structure your project as chapters, and want to share the whole work in one go.

So now, Ellipsus now has five distinct roles for inviting collaborators (because no two writing collabs are exactly alike):

Owner - The doc creator. Write, edit, merge, delete, rename, invite people in, or banish them back into the void.

Can Merge - The most trusted collaborators. They can edit the main doc, make drafts, comment, and merge. But they can’t invite new folks.

Can Edit - They can create/edit drafts and comment, but they can’t touch the main doc or merge changes.

Can Comment - They can create drafts and leave comments, but they can’t edit anything.

Can View - Read everything! No comments allowed!
