How about for once we have some support for socially anxious people who are also outgoing or extroverted?
Shout out to socially anxious people who talk too much and regret every word they say
Shout out to socially anxious people who have a habit of word vomiting because theyâre nervous
Shout out to socially anxious people who plan out exactly what theyâre going to say but get too excited and end up going overboard
Shout out to socially anxious people who get in fights and arguments but later feel ashamed for showing so much passion and scared that people with differing opinions will target them
Shout out to socially anxious people who try to listen and be a good friend, but they talk so much that no one acknowledges that they listen, too
Shout out to socially anxious people who boldly dance in front of people or wear what they want or express themselves, only to get overwhelmed and go hide later
Shout out to socially anxious people who have a constant war in their heads because they both love and hate being the center of attention
Shout out to socially anxious people who are well aware that their voice is really loud, thank you very much
Social anxiety isnât limited to being shy and quiet. You can be a socially anxious person even if youâre loud and rambunctious. Anyone can have social anxiety; you donât have to fit the âclassic introvertâ profile to be valid.
I think Iâm crying finally someone telling me Iâm valid
thank you for this post though <3
1) Myth: The minimum wage was never supposed to be a living wage
This is probably one of the most dangerousâand easy to debunkâmyths about the minimum wage, which was championed by Franklin D. Roosevelt beginning in 1933. During an address FDR gave about one of his many economic salvation packages, he explained that âno business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.â
2) Myth: An increase in the minimum wage wonât help anyone if all other costs go up, too
One assumption about increasing the minimum wage is that it will force to the cost of living to increase at the same rate, and in doing so, weâd really just be speeding up inflation. This isnât really how economics works. A 2013 study by the Chicago Fed found that increasing the minimum wage even just to $9 would increase consumer spending by $28 billion. When spendingâi.e. demandâincreases, manufacturers and other purveyors of goods and services can actually charge less or at least avoid increasing their prices, because theyâre increasing overall revenue.
3) Myth: An increase in the minimum wage is bad for employers
Paying a higher wage to employees can also help employers cut costs in other ways, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. âBeyond simple supply and demand theory,â reads a comprehensive report on the economics of raising the minimum wage, âincreasing the minimum wage may also spur businesses to operate more efficiently and employees to work harder.â
4) Myth: $15 is a random number
âWhy not $20 per hour? Why not $50?â critics have asked. And the answer is simple: because those who are fighting for an increase in the minimum wage are being pragmatic, not bombastic. Wages of $10.10 (federally) and $15 (in cities with a high cost of living, like New York and Seattle) are hourly dollar amounts that raise workers above the poverty line and increase their purchasing power, while also being feasible for businesses. Research from the Policy Research and Economic Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst proves that these increases are absolutely possible without job loss.
5) Myth: It will cost us jobs and raise unemployment
So far, there is no evidence that raising the minimum wage causes an increase in unemployment or job loss. In fact, in a Goldman Sachs analysis of the 13 states which have raised their minimum wage, found that âthe states where the minimum wage went up had faster employment growth than the states where the minimum wage remained at its 2013 level.â
6) Myth: Only teenagers and uneducated people work for the minimum wage
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 4.7 percent of the working population make at or below the minimum wage. While a disproportionate percentage are under the age of 25âabout 35 percent, according to the Center for Economic and Policy Researchâthe population who would benefit from a minimum wage increase isâon averageâ35 years old. Eighty-eight percent are over the age of 20.
7) Myth: Seattle already has a $15 minimum wage and itâs terrible
Though conservative news outlets are already looking to Seattle to see if the economy has plunged into chaos, the truth is that the minimum wage in the city has only increased by a small amount, due to the slow transition written into the law. Itâs $10 for some workers, and $11 for others, depending on the size of their employer, and many small businesses are actually very happy with it.

Stop âRescuingâ African Children Through Corrupt Adoptions
Tarikuwa Lemma appearing on Melissa Harris Perry Show April 28, 2013.
From The Grio â Nineteen-yearâŚ
View Post
Nineteen-year-old Tarikuwa Lemma is a survivor, of an international adoption scandal. When she was 13, she was effectively sold from her native Ethiopia to an American family. The corrupt âadoption agencyâ convinced her father, who was a widow, that Tarikuwa and her younger sisters were headed to the U.S. as part of an educational exchange program, and that they would return home every summer and on holiday breaks. Little did he know, his daughters had been placed with adoptive couples in the U.S., never to return. Tarikuwaâs name was changed against her will, and she was forbidden by her American âfamilyâ from speaking her native language. The issue of transnational adoption, its evangelical Christian component, and the exploitation of communities that sometimes results, is the subject of the book, The Child Catchers: Rescue, Trafficking and the New Gospel of Adoption by Kathryn Joyce, who appeared, along with Tarikuwa, on last Sundayâs âMelissa Harris Perryâ show on MSNBC. Below is Tarikuwaâs satirical look at the ârescueâ of children from her home country, to âbetter livesâ in America.
Doesnât seem to matter the background of the child, the methods of colonialism and assimilation havenât changed.

Saying that people of color cannot show any visible blushing is a big fat myth that only proves how little people actually know about skin tones.
I have seen a lot of skin-tone palettes that includes dark skin, but it is very rarely put in use as examples. And many times Iâve found them to only appear monochrome, while darker skin tones are just as rich in tone variation as fair skin.
And just to be extra nice, I even added the basic colors I used in these two examples. A big protip is to start with the darkest tone as a base and then work to light tones. Use the highlights sparingly, they should not be large but more like small spots. Dark skin is more âreflectiveâ, meaning small highlights pop out more than on lighter skin tones.
I made this set mainly for all the anime artists out there who probably would love to color more poc characters but donât really know if itâd work out as kawaii as their usual stuff.
News flash: itâs drop-dead super kawaii in all skin tones<3

these kinds of people should be turned into fertilizerâŞâŞâŞ
thatâs fucking awful jesus christ.
So many fashion ârulesâ are simply sets of guidelines to managing the connotations of womanhood. The shorter the skirt, the lower the heel. The smokier the eyes, the more neutral the mouth. The tighter the pants, the more billowy the shirt. The more colorful the top, the plainer the bottom; the bigger the earrings, the smaller the necklace; the bolder the nail polish, the shorter the nail. Iâve seen all of these ârulesâ written out in fashion magazines and the like (which isnât to say that there arenât plenty of contradictory ârulesâ or guidelines on how to best break those rules, but these are generally considered to be within âgood tasteâ instead of being fashion-forward), and what stands out isnât so much the rules themselves as the fact that theyâre presented without explanation. Youâre supposed to know inherently why you wouldnât pair a short skirt with high heels, a loud lipstick with a dark eye. Now, some of these rules make a certain amount of visual sense: If youâre trying to showcase a gorgeous pair of earrings, wearing a bunch of other jewelry will just compete for attention. But other rules make visual sense only because weâve adopted a collective eye that codes it as ârightââanything else betrays our sense of propriety. A micromini with four-inch heels? Coded as tramp. It doesnât matter if the visual goal is to lengthen your legs, or if the woman next to you garnering not a single sneer is wearing a skirt just as short with a pair of low-heeled boots. Youâve failed to manage the stigma of womanhood correctly. You havenât made the right choices, the right tradeoff. You havenât found that ever-present marker of âgood tasteâ: balance. And while there are all sorts of stigma attached to womanhood, none is so heavily managed and manipulated and contradictory and constantly on the edge of imbalance as sexuality.

My lawyer gives the same speech to everyone who wants to do business with me now. âNicki is not one of those artists who allow her representatives to make decisions for her.â Iâm on conference calls all day with lawyers, accountants, and executivesâpeople of powerâand they treat me with respect. Because I command respect. Iâm not cocky, but I deserve to know whatâs going on. Itâs my brand and my life. Thatâs my advice to women in general: Even if youâre doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you wantâand donât allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I canât play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. Thatâs what itâs all about.
