Seriously, look at the second gif. After she makes her admission. The visible inhalation of breath, the tightened jaw, the way she braces herself…this is the face of a child expecting to be hurt - whether it be physically or verbally. In her distress, she is running purely on emotion and instinct. And her instincts have trained her to expect bad things to happen when she does something wrong. There is no rationalizing that she had no choice, that she stopped Daniel from hurting anyone else. There is no understanding that Archie is a doctor and wants to help her not harm her, or that he in reality can’t do anything to harm her. There is only a child’s logic of “I was bad. I’m going to be punished.” Because that’s how she was raised. That’s what she was taught. Not to expect mercy or understanding or compassion. She was taught that mistakes=pain.
