Misery Loves Company // Zander And Mable
He answered and his angelic voice flowed into her ears. It brought a smile to her delicate features. She could practically hear the grin that was most likely tugging his lips now. “Really? That’s great!” She bit down on her lesser lip, a small grin painted on her pink lips. She was a bit excited that he’d agreed to come over. Mable didn’t know what it was about him, but he really made her feel better. Maybe it was just being around someone who sort of understood her pain, and what she’s had to go through. Seconds later she’d hear a faint mumble slip from his mouth, she couldn’t quite make out what he said, but it didn’t sound good. “Yeah.. Yeah okay.” She nodded, tucking her lips. The tone of his voice was low, and certainly didn’t sound to good. Something was wrong, and she could tell. Zander sat down the phone, and she heard faint foot steps.. that soon became silent. She sat with her ear to the phone, and her feet propped up on her couch, biting at her nails, waiting for him to come back. It sounded like she heard a strange shuffling in the background, but she couldn’t hear through the phone that well. That is, until she heard screaming coming through the speaker into her ear. Mable’s eyes widened when she heard the blood curdling screams. Her mouth dropped, and her stomach sank to the floor. What the hell was going on over there.. Should she really be afraid of this guy? As far as she knew, his sister was gone.. and he lived in that house all alone. Was she back? Maybe that was what she was hearing. Mable tried to keep an open mind, listening to the madness. Soon, the screams silenced, and she only heard faint foot steps. It sounded like someone had picked up the line, but before she could say anything it was cut off. She pulled the phone from her face, and stared at the screen for a moment. There had to be more to this story.. and she was determined to find out. Mable was dressed in her PJ’s and a light jacket to keep her extra warm. She wanted to find out what was going on at his house. She slipped on her shoes and headed out the door of her house, and into the dark woods that separated their homes. Mable switched on the flashlight of her iPhone, stepping slowly through the cold woods. Every sound she heard had her on edge, causing her to keep looking around her. It only took a couple minutes to get to his house, and up to his door. Mable stood at his door, taking a deep breath before her knuckle met the door, knocking a few times.
Zander sat on his the floor with his legs pulled to his chest and his head rested in his palm. He was sure he wasn't gonna see her again. Who would after just hearing all of that? He knew she heard everything, especially Leanne's screaming. And it sucked more the more he thought about it. Zander never got a lot of company since the incident. People would see him coming and they'd cross the street. He'd go into a store and come out and his car would be trashed. They'd egg his house, the tree's would be covered in toilet paper. He was finally getting some company and it got ruined. I'm such a fucking idiot. He was beating himself up in his mind. He heard a few knocks at the door and he lifted himself from the ground. He peeked out the window before going to answer the door. But when he saw that it was Mable. He hesitated answering it. Aw shit. He stepped away from the window quickly before she caught a glance at him peeking. What am i gonna tell her? He pushed his hair back, taking a deep breath before he walked over to the door. He slowly opened it. "Uh-- What are you doing here? Sorry, my phone uh -- disconnected." He was obviously lying. But he didn't wanna tell her 'Oh yeah, i hung up because i was to much of a little pussy to hear your reaction afterwards.'
