my hot take is that cats should have won best revival because reinventing one of the most divisive musicals in the mainstream (that already had an absolutely humiliating adaptation a while back) into a beloved showcase of queer ballroom culture is more impressive than just taking the material of an already very loved and respected show and just copy pasting it with different direction
